Scientists probe whether acetaminophen
hinders fetal development

Original Article

A group of 13 scientists from around the world released a statement on Thursday demanding that health care providers more carefully consider using acetaminophen (APAP) on pregnant women until the drug is investigated for potentially hindering the development of a fetus inside the womb. The statement, published on Thursday in the journal of Nature Reviews Endocrinology, suggests that “prenatal exposure to APAP might alter fetal development, which could increase the risks of some neurodevelopment, reproductive, urogenital disorders.”(Snip) The statement was also cosigned by 91 scientists from countries across the globe and implores that pregnant women be alerted to the possible risks of APAP as a cautionary measure

Comments:

The Science is having second thoughts about a drug that's been on the market in the USA since 1950. The same Science says the entirely new coronavirus shots, which did not exist 2 years ago and which are being forced on people under threat of loss of employment, are wonderful for pregnant women and babies.

Hmm. Somehow the rest of my post got amputated. I had a discussion with a pharmacist on tylenol (or acetaminophen, in Europe paracetamol) a number of years ago. He mentioned how it was potentially dangerous, and that he couldn't think of an other OTC drug which has such a small range between the maximum normal dose (1,000 mg) and the toxic dose (4,000 mg) which will kill your liver, and maybe you. I use it when needed, as in after orthopedic surgery, but very aware of the dose limits.

Acetaminophen does nothing for me and never has, so I never use it. When hubby was badly hurt in a construction accident, they put him on a prescription acetaminophen with a narcotic for a short time. He was told he couldn't be on it for long as the APAP would damage his liver. I use good old fashioned aspirin. I have been told because I am on blood thinners, I shouldn't use any pain relievers (like that is going to happen). I use them cautiously and have no side effects. Personally I have never given any of my kids APAP, I always used aspirin - it has been around for centuries.

My pharmacist friend says that painkillers and antihistamines are difficult to predict. He says he can only recommend that patients try one and see what happens. Ibuprofen does exactly nothing for me, but aspirin and tylenol work. Several standard antihistamines don't work for me, one just puts me to sleep, but I have found one standard, cheap antihistamine that works without side effects.....for me. My two pharmacist friends just shrug and say those two classes are pretty unpredictable, person to person.

September was officially proclaimed African Heritage Month with an outdoor ceremony on Friday in Prince George’s County, Maryland. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks established the African Diaspora Advisory Board about two years ago. The event marked the board’s first annual African Heritage Month celebration as a crowd gathered to hear speakers and stand up and dance outside of the county administration building. Alsobrooks honored the theme of the month: “The African Immigrant.”
