Study Suggests Alzheimers Could Be Stopped
with Oxygen Therapy

Could simple oxygen therapy be enough to reverse the effects of Alzheimer’s? [...] small-scale study by researchers at Tel Aviv University suggests that dementia patients may see those symptoms improve, and even reverse, through hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). [...] professor Tom Dening, an expert in dementia at the University of Nottingham, told the Telegraph, “To be useful, the treatment would have to be continued indefinitely, so any patients would have to be very highly motivated and have good transport links to the treatment facility.” With some 6 million dementia sufferers in the US, “it is hard to see how hyperbaric oxygen could ever be available on this scale.”  CORRECTION*

Comments:

Interesting article, but I was amazed at the concluding comment by the college professor who specializes in dementia. Doesn't understand economics at all! My gosh, if it is proven this treatment could cure, or even just abate, dementia, people all over will gladly shell out money for home versions. His assumption that it must be done at a treatment facility just shows his narrow thinking. Today, you can buy a personal home unit for about the cost of a high-end hearing aid. What couple wouldn't pay $5,000 to $10,000 for a dementia cure they could access in their home, rather than buy a hearing aid or a new car? Finance it over three years, it becomes very affordable. Get several friends to share in the cost, it's downright cheap. What retirement facility wouldn't make this equipment a selling feature to attract new residents? Surely, with demand, the cost of these units would drop. This professor is an idiot.

If that's true poster #2, than I guess this treatment is really a failure. Some months ago I read an article that some dementia patients have shown results when treated as if they had Seasonal Disaffective Disorder...or SAD...using special lightbulbs that mimic sunlight. Sorry, can't remember where I saw the article but thought it could be a step in the right direction for finding a cure.

There are some people out there that get motivated when someone uses the word, "can't". Can't means two things. You don't know how or You just won't do it.

The only thing better for the body than oxygen is more oxygen, and the only way to get that is under pressure. Not surprising to hear this about Alzheimers, as hyperbaric therapy has been shown to be effective in many treatments including third-degree burns. Need to get rid of a hangover? Strap on a scuba tank, drop down to 50 feet, and breathe deeply for a few minutes.

There are lots of dialysis centers around the country, with most of the patients on Medicare, so the cost of this treatment is not an obstacle. It costs about 60,000 dollars a year, in Pennsylvania, for one person's 'memory care' nursing home care.

OP is correct. If this treatment proves effective, the free market would ramp up new facilities to meet the massive demand.

So the corollary to this is extended mask wearing that reduces blood oxygen will contribute to dementia, or perhaps accelerate it in those who are in early stages or Otherwise prone to it.

"What the hell is going on in Russia" is the kind of headline you write when there's so much weird stuff going on that it's impossible to summarize it cleverly. Maybe you'll find this catchier: there's a lot of stuff getting blown up in Russia and it might not just be the Ukrainians blowing it up.

A group of Sarasota County parents has sued the Sarasota County School Board, arguing that its policy requiring children to wear masks while at school denies them their right to an equal education. The 59-page lawsuit was filed Oct. 21 in Sarasota County by Amy Cook and Gustavo Collazo, as well as Nicholas Eastman and Catherine Gonzales. The School Board is named as the defendant. [...] The lawsuit invokes the historic 1954 Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka race-based case that established that every child should have an equal right to education, as well as the Florida constitution, in its reasoning as to why students shouldn’t have to wear masks.

AMC Theaters will require its customers to wear face masks after catching backlash for its initial reopening plan, which did not include making masks mandatory out of fear of "political controversy." The popular theater chain debuted its “AMC Safe & Clean” policy on Friday, designed to allow for a safe reopening for its customers after shutting down theaters in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the initial plan did not make the use of masks mandatory despite numerous health experts saying they're an essential step to curtail the spread of COVID-19. However, after some intense public outcry, AMC reversed its decision later in the day.

As businesses start to reopen Monday in Miami-Dade County, indoor movie theaters are one place you won’t be able to go for a while. But an old-fashioned movie-going option is coming soon to North Miami: a drive-in theater outside Dezerland Park, the largest indoor theme park in the region which has been closed since mid-March due to COVID-19. The city of North Miami issued a permit last week to let the park host drive-in movie nights every Friday through July 3. Michael Pizzi, an attorney for Dezerland, said he worked with city officials to make sure the site will be safe.

For the adults in the house, trying to do their own jobs while helping children with class work has become one of the most trying aspects of the pandemic. Daniel Levin’s son, Linus, 7, was supposed to be doing math. Instead, he pretended to take a shower in the living room, rubbing a dry eraser under his arms like a bar of soap, which upset his 5-year-old sister, distracting her from her coloring. Dole out the goodies, of course, some big ones in a desperate bid to win back younger leftist voters. McConnell’s approval rating, specifically, is in the toilet, with just 9.7% of Republicans having a “very favorable” opinion of him.
