House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy received a standing ovation from House Republicans during a meeting on Wednesday after he addressed leaked audio from a phone call he made days after the January 6 Capitol riot.
“Standing ovation and Kevin will be speaker,” Representative Nancy Mace (R., S.C.) told reporters after the meeting on Wednesday, according to Fox News.
Representative Jay Obernolte (R., Calif.) confirmed to Fox News that the members gave McCarthy a standing ovation.
The New York Times recently published audio from a January 10, 2021 meeting of Republican leadership in which McCarthy expressed concern

The Trump haters had a cool aid party and Mccarthy was the hero of the day calling for Trump to resign. I think Trump needs to call on KMcC to commit suicide because his political days are numbered when Trump is back in the White House.

So they all made kissy-face and everything is cool and sunny again? What about Kevin denying he had said this - until the proof in the tape was revealed? To me, that lying tells more about his character than any back-tracking, back-slapping, back room barometer of brotherhood.

It’s when truths like this one is revealed that I realize that the Republican Party is not to be trusted. There is no telling how many times we have been betrayed by a party that we thought actually was working toward shared goals. Now, we see them as nothing more than a bunch of liars who cannot be trusted to speak the truth. I have never trusted McCarthy and it appears my instincts are correct. For him to undermine the President in this manner and then lie about it is truly reprehensible. Kevin and his cohorts were giddy with the thought they could be rid of Trump and get back to the status quo where the only thing that mattered was getting re-elected and keeping the coffers of the RNC full and over-flowing.
McCarthy can try and spin this until he turns blue, but he has revealed himself to be an untrustworthy liar. He is a manipulative tyrant who controls the members of his party with an iron fist. He is a snake in the grass and his little pal, Steve Scalise is no better. How in the world can we possibly defeat the democrats when our own party is playing the same self-serving games? I am totally disgusted by him and anyone who supports him. He has no business being in a leadership role.

It all starts with dragging. They won't go, so we have to make them go. We, the people, should demand more of our politicians. They've collectively gotten out of control, and we are the ones who need to regulate. I don't know how to do it, but we need to get it done. I'm so sick of these traitors who think they are too big to fail, and they can do whatever the heck they want. He actually thinks that because the NYTs came after him that he can pull US over to his side. Heck! he's the NYTs. If we take back Congress, WE need to sit on their doorsteps until they resign or get it together. No more phony conservatism or boasting about what they'll do when they take over while we settle for them doing nothing. The MAGA candidates that are talking about impeaching brandon better know that they will have to fight the Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell crew to do so. Their first act needs to be get rid of the whole leadership and replace them with new blood; that's whether there's a takeover or not. My mother used to say, "Devil, your time is up, and it will be no more!" When she said that, stuff always started to move in the right direction.

If Kevin does become speaker, the Republicans should take a page from the Squad's playbook. There will likely be a large group of non-RINOs, possibly led by MTG, that can hold his feet to the fire.

So, Marjorie Greene is the only one who suggested Kevin & Scalise apologize...like they made her apologize for her words...???? Unbelieveable ...So the call consisted of Liz,Kevin & Scalise...hmmmm I wonder who leaked the tape to they NY slimes?? The republican party is one big mess. If they elect McCarthy they are doomed. McCarthy & Scalise are no better than Liz. It's time the republican party acts like adults instead of only caring about their re-election & assignment to committees. McCarthy actually makes me ill!!!

I'll bet that standing ovation included all of the 8 or 9 reps who actually attended a meeting with McCarthy...I do not see Kevin McCarthy being much better than Nancy Pelosi! Just another California Asshat. Gimme Scalise a real Republican!

Even with all of the turmoil in the country and the world, the disaster that is the installed Biden regime, this report is probably the most depressing thing I've read in a long time. If McCarthy becomes Speaker there really is no hope. I think that just might make me stop voting.
I pray Trump is behind the "outing" of the McCarthy tapes and is quietly orchestrating McCarthy's political demise. Trump has been very quiet about this traitor's antics. At least an old lady can dream.

And the hell of it is...I'm not sure that a Speaker Scalise wouldn't be even worse than McCarthy.
Both are members of the DC UniParty, and would be as reliable as Paul Ryan

#4, that's what the Democrats want, and hope for every day - to divide the Republicans and hope many don't vote just like what happened in Georgia in 2020.
Politicians react, they aren't looking at things from a wide angle lens, generally.
Maybe he was also just telling who he was talking to what he knew they would want to hear.
And, remember, he was reacting to what the media was telling everyone at that time, which we've all learned is not necessarily what actually happened.
Just relax and get the Majority back in the House, and see where things go. You can't do anything if you don't have the Majority, period.

How many times has McCarthy suggested that Biden resign? Apparently a stolen election and policies that are killing the country are fine with them as long as they get their turn. They are very proud of their uniparty party but it will all come to an end. The past five years have opened our eyes. If they hate us so much they should not be begging us daily for money.
