Woke Companies Must Wake Up on ESG

Original Article

Growing numbers of companies, banks, universities and investment houses are adopting Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards and disclosure rules. They’re pressured to do so by activists, legislators and regulators. Many expect to get rich via taxpayer-subsidized “renewable” energy projects. Nearly all hope to “greenwash” their reputations, by claiming they’ll “make the world a better place,” by reducing fossil fuel emissions, and thus planetary temperatures and extreme weather events.

CNN was interviewing a "climate scientist" yesterday who was sad and depressed that very few people believe the "obvious" connection between Climate Change and the current forest fire and flood events going on in the country. Fires are being started by activists and campers who love to play with fire, with the occasional lighting strike helping out. Flooding has been occurring during hurricanes for centuries. Hint: get out of your basement when the street is flooded. The sight of a bearded, tearful millenial does not motivate me, it disgusts me.

I think it's Hogwash! I'm 80 and I have lived through a lot of different storms that Mother Nature has surprised us with. Anyone who really cares to find out if there is such a thing as Climate Change should just read the History Books. There were Floods and Hurricanes and Tornados and Dust Storms and lots of other dangers that Mother Nature threw at us for hundreds of years. Some years were free of those dangers and some were full of them. Maybe we didn't hear about as many Forest Fires, but that could be because people went into those forests and thinned them out every year so they had a source of heat for the winter. Forest fires began to really be a problem after the Greenies decreed nobody would be allowed to cut down Trees (or thin the Brush) anymore! I firmly believe Forest Fires are Man Made, not Climate related.

Let last winter's cold blast in Texas be a warning. Wind and solar couldn't save the state they were totally useless for a population. Reducing natural gas and coal is suicide. With our energy independence gone landscaping with wind power by greenies wait for the next cold winter blast to see another disaster like the Afghanistan 'bug out'. It's coming this winter.

Sitting here in Louisiana, I say "Thank God for fossil fuel." Without fossil fuel we would have had unbelievable death toll. People would have been unable to evacuate. Hospital generators could not be fueled. Repair trucks could not operate. Food trucks could not make deliveries. Chain saws would have no fuel. Electric cars would have run out of charge waiting in traffic.

In an essay that was published on Feb. 14 in the Christian News Missouri, Dr. Gregory Schulz wrote the search criteria for a new university president include someone who exhibits a "demonstrated belief in and commitment to equity and inclusion and who promotes racialized diversity in all its myriad forms." These are aggressive-progressive Woke mantras," Schulz wrote. In recent years, a number of parents and grandparents have discovered an alarming trend: children no longer know how to write in cursive. Such a discovery led to a considerable backlash against programs such as Common Core, which many viewed as the culprit squeezing out cursive instruction. Thanks to increased attention on the subject, many states have implemented laws mandating that cursive be taught in school. But what happens when children begin to learn cursive and can’t hold their pencil properly? Amazingly, this is the growing reality in a number of countries. The Guardian explains:

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine Thursday. He’d been fixing on it for a while. Most of the world knew it was coming. By nightfall, their advanced forces had reached the capital city of Kyiv, and the situation looked dire. In the ensuing bloodshed, the internet was awash in hot takes. Not insignificant among them: That treason is amiss on the right, where our elites detect an insufficient support for the White House — and an insufficient hatred of Putin.

In That Hideous Strength, the grand finale of his sci-fi trilogy, C.S. Lewis tells the story of Mark Studdock, a young academic who seeks distinction by joining the “Progressive Element” of his college and, eventually, the sociological organization, N.I.C.E. While Mark is initially awed by the organization’s lofty goals of social and police reform through “correctional” experimentation, he soon discovers the organization’s nightmarish project—that is, the machine-operated head of a guillotined murderer, presented as a second Christ, having been raised from the dead. The glorious evolution of life, according to the villains, was always toward something engineered in a lab.

All my life, I have encountered people who scoff at the notion that the American family was far healthier in the 1950s than it is now. They cannot, of course, point to any strong evidence of widespread unhappiness and dysfunction in that time. Divorces were rare, and so were out-of-wedlock births. American men and women after the war were eager to resume real life. Rosie the Riveter usually wanted children and a home, not a new sweatband and more rivets. We don’t have to assert that it was a “golden age,” any more than we have to assert that all of the founders were geniuses of political acumen and farsightedness.

These Democrat-run hearings to potentially send Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court are something else. It's not just that Democrats have forgotten how they've treated now Justice Brett Kavanaugh while they go after Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) for daring to address Judge Jackson's record on sentencing sex offenders who prey on children, though that's certainly continued to be an issue. Concerningly, Sen.
