The Great Complacency

Original Article

I mentioned yesterday, and after my appearance on telly in Delhi, that the American conversation has been nowhere near where it ought to be these last three weeks. By way of example, high-profile Republican congressman (and vice-chairman of the "Freedom Caucus") Jim Jordan: Despite everything, America is still the greatest country in the world. Whether or not this is true, how is it a helpful contribution to public debate at a time when you're a global laughingstock? Hey, Sleeping Giant, no worries, roll over and go back to sleep ...oh, but, before you do, don't forget to send money now to SendMoneyNow.com so we'll be all set up for the midterms.

Thank God for Mark Steyn, the realist.

Amen, Mark. Amen! America is being weakened for the communist and one world government takeover. We all should know that. What other group would do the one world thing. They're using the rag heads by the way. Allah will not be happy when the communists are exposed.

Absolutely spot on. I have been amazed to see most people who I used to admire and respect, who I used to think were freedom loving patriots, simply rolling over to have their belly rubbed by their new masters. "Sorry...I don't want to think about it...I have to get back to watching my football with all the marxist propaganda written on their helmets..."

Keane was deputy CSA to Shinseki at the start of OIF and initial occupation of Iraq. He visited and saw personally the chaos and amateur performance of the military high command there. He saw the transplantation of a chunk of DC, both civilian and military, which led to lost opportunities and a lack of action to fix what amounted to a massive capture the flag exercise. Ever since, he has talked a good talk on the nets and has tried to assuage concerns that, to reverse Mark's analogy, the glass is actually 15/16 empty. A much better use of time is to read Colonel David Hunt's book "They Just Don't Get It." With people like Keane, is it any wonder folks are surprised how we were defeated in the central region.

Total agreement here. Think we have already reached a point of no return. A truly competent honest man was forced out of the Presidency and replaced by a senile dishonest corrupt bully and fool. Out debt is about to hit 30 trillion, and will likely hit 40 trillion. No border. Being white is evil. So many other problems. The fire alarm has been blaring for some time now, but nothing has changed. Great complacency indeed. This does not end well folks.

The betrayal comes from those we choose as leaders and turn into unquestionable icons. The US is a "superpower" that is actually an effete milquetoast with an attitude. Remember the lesson of Vietnam? What was it? And what's the immediate lesson of Afghanistan? Let's revisit "Desert Storm"...Colin Powell..."Our strategy in going after this army is very simple. First we are going to cut it off, and then we are going to kill it." Think back to the "Highway of Death." He also said, "Many of my generation, the career captains, majors, and lieutenant colonels seasoned in that war [Vietnam], vowed that when our turn came to call the shots, we would not quietly acquiesce in halfhearted warfare for half-baked reasons that the American people could not understand." So now we have the next generation of career captains, majors, and lieutenant colonels, now the generals, experts and politicians of today...who made theirs in the post 9/11 era of nation building and payoffs for peace. Blame Obama for "purging" capable officers. I think they were largely the products of hubris in achieving an incomplete victory with "Mission Accomplished" celebrated, a nation thanking them for their service. Careers were built on this Potemkin nonsense built in Afghanistan...and the result cum legacy was an Afghan government that fled with suitcases of US cash and a US-trained "security force" that melted away in the face of a fight, which we now find was more a make work project than honorable duty.

Stern and Logan are right. All the wimpy Republicans do is talk and when they controlled the Congress all they did was talk and try to be buddies with the leftist, liberal, and socialist Democrats who would crush those wimpy Republicans politically in a minute, and put some of them in jail if they could find a way to do that. As for the Democrats who are always looking to increase their political power, bringing both the good and bad of Afghanistan in unlimited numbers to the USA, the vast majority of who did not render any substantial assistance to US Forces in Afghanistan, through so-called “humanitarian parole” over 90% of who are adherents to, and believe that the world and the USA should be run in accordance with Islamic Sharia law, and resettling the vast majority in the US political swing States through schemes run by the liberal Democrat aligned refugee resettlement organizations who are paid with State Department funds, in amounts which are determined based upon the number of foreigners, in this case Afghans, with “humanitarian parole” who they resettle and of course indoctrinate into becoming future leftist and socialist Democrat voters. So for the Democrats and their NGOs resettlement industry, the more mostly all poor and uneducated foreigners that the Biden crew allows into the USA as asylum applicants, with “humanitarian parole, or as “refugees” all the better.

Before beating a hasty retreat, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went where no world leader has gone before. Last month, he became the first Western leader to wield the financial system as a push-button weapon of government enforcement against opinions and behaviors that he found politically distasteful or inconvenient. This is an entirely new form of power, which much of the world has not even begun to reckon with—but which may well define our politics in the years to come. Even before Ketanji Brown Jackson's extraordinary statement that she does not know what a woman is, I'd concluded that she's a dim bulb and, really, the judicial equivalent of Kamala Harris: an uninspiring Black woman who's floated effortlessly upward through affirmative action and fealty to leftism. I'd spent the day mentally writing an attack on her, only to see Tucker Carlson hold forth with an incendiary monologue that attacked her "I'm not a biologist" lunacy, the whole transgender madness that the left is advancing, and the real agenda of remaking society in an ugly way, especially through the death of free speech.

The average American was unlikely to see mainstream scientists challenging COVID-19 conventional wisdom outside of Fox News until recent months, when New York Times columnist David Leonhardt started shifting the Overton Window for elite discourse on pandemic policy. That troubles the three dozen scientists, academics and journalists who gathered in D.C. last week to discuss censorship in science and ways to push back, perhaps through alternative institutions such as the nascent University of Austin. President Trump's former COVID advisor Scott Atlas cohosted the "quasi-kickoff" of Hillsdale College's Academy for Science and Freedom, which he called a "seed" to be followed by larger meetings and smaller working groups.

Stan Evans helped build the conservative movement by founding the American Conservative Union, the Conservative Political Action Conference, and establishing the National Journalism Center. He was, in addition, a tremendous journalist and thinker. His book “The Theme Is Freedom” should be a conservative classic, Steven Hayward observes in his new book “M. Stanton Evans: Conservative Wit, Apostle of Freedom.” What also made Evans so very unique was his tremendous humor that he used to undermine progressive moralizing. Hayward notes that a standard liberal critique of America was to say that any country that can land a man on the moon can enact x progressive policy.
