The Pentagon appears to be inching toward expanding its rescue mission in Afghanistan outside of the walls of Hamid Karzai International Airport, as the situation grows dire for US citizens now unable to reach the airport. The US Embassy in Kabul on Saturday issued an alert warning citizens not to attempt to reach the airport on their own, where four were killed in a crushing stampede. It came as Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar arrived in Kabul and fears grew of Islamic State cells operating freely in the country.A senior US official said said that small groups of Americans and possibly other civilians will now be given specific instructions
Xiden has been out of sight all day again, and now they are going to trot him out at 4pm Sunday to try and reassure not just America but our allies that all is well.
Germany, Britain and France have been conducting rescues into Kabul for their citizens (and some US), yet Xiden remains paralyzed. The three together probably don't have 1/4 of the military presence America does, and yet our military remains trapped inside its own perimeter by inaction and political fecklessness.
We have only exfiltrated 2500 Americans out of 15000 so far according to Defense. Most of what we have airlifted have been Afghans.
Prepare for another canned speech from Xiden, with nothing but lies and platitudes, and no meaningful questions taken.

We'll soon see whether the affirmative action Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, whose resume is that of a mediocre general, has the ability to step up and get the job done. If not, the Peter Principle will determine his future.

Embarrassed in to doing the right thing when these pukes would just as well let all of them just die without raising a finger.

I do not think the present Pentagon leadership is capable of any operations. We cannot afford their leadership.

Will it be taped? We know he's no good after a certain time. Or, will he rest all day until just before 4 PM? Why does he keep trying to talk to US? He needs to get those people out of there. Put up! or shut up! you worthless piece of traitor.

So the idiot President will make an announcement that he will order rescue missions to begin at a certain time, where they will go, who they plan to rescue, etc. and for the media to be ready with their bright lights and TV cameras. Then we will hear reports that when the US troops arrived, the stranded American citizens were "unexpectedly" missing and could not be located. /s

I'm sure the stranded Americans will have a hell of a lot more to say to Biteme other than just help.

Now troops will be put into harm’s way in order to reach and evacuate Americans when a month ago, when Afghanistan was stable, they could have safely left Afghanistan and THEN our few troops could have left. And should have blown up all the remaining equipment being left behind.

I haven’t heard anyone ask this question to “the President” if you did NOT know how many Americans were stranded in Afghanistan, why did you start the evacuation BEFORE knowing that number?

Wow, you mean to tell me that the people who pay the Pentagon's massive bills are finally going to be helped by the people who put American civilians into harm's way in the first place? Oh, thank you so much. Big Brother is wonderful!

My experience with perimeter defense is limited to basic training 2 day bivouac at Lackland AFB, Texas. I pulled guard duty around the outside of our encampment, not inside.
Whatever the hell our leaders are doing in Afghanistan, it is not perimeter defense. They are playing war the way Sergio Garcia plays golf.
And they show the courage of fragile Rory McIlroy.
