The ‘Thank You for Your Service’ Red Pill

Original Article

Americans have been given an ultra red pill with the events in Afghanistan. As the incompetence and corruption of America’s military apparatus are laid bare before our eyes, as America’s military leaders are hiding in shame (as they ought to be), and as America’s credibility abroad is being shredded, there is much demanding our reflection. The American people deserve better than the military apparatchiks and crony politicians we have now, but we must learn from our experiences and adjust course. This is the requirement of all free people.

Comments:

I disagree with some of the article however the perfumed princes of the Pentagon and the military industrial complex come in for some scathing criticism. And justifiably so.

There are still many veterans that were drafted or threatened with the draft. They served honorably and didn't run off to Canada. In today's world there is a need for a standing army. The world has shrunk and there isn't much time to build the resources to defend the country. \\\

The servants of Satan the evil of the Marxist Communist democrats, republicrats GoPe, etc., who are voting at every gathering to exclude God our Father from their political platform. They do not believe in God our Father yet claim being Christian, false Christians God our Father warns us about as anti-Christs, leading many into the abyss. Christians, it is time to separate ourselves from the evil Satan worshipers as instructed by God in His Holy Bible. Christians, we are now living in the time of the fifth trump of God, and it will not be too much longer until we enter into the sixth trump as the instructions in Daniel and Revelation tell us so we can be prepared. 2 Corinthians 6 Live separate from unbelievers 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. If you believe you are a Christian it is time for you to wake up and follow the instructions of God our Father.

This comment applies to the boots, not the suits: Few if any go into the military for the financial gain. Many go in out of a sense of service or family history (but this decision will depend on who the leaders are, and could be down to nothing by now); some go in for career training or a route to a college education; some go in because their parents insist it will help them grow up; some are in trouble and given this as an option better than jail. But in the end, I admire Israel's method which is a forced draft for all high school grads (male and female) who serve for two years . And amazingly they don't then go off to college a spoiled brat and scream about the terrible military.

The world is totally different (except for the human evil part) from what it was when those men sneered at the professional soldier. And hes right, the professional soldier without a war to fight is just another dam bureaucrat. But in our age of instant communication and really fast travel, of course we need a standing army. What we need to develop is a way to lop off the deadwood at the top of the command chain regularly so we don’t keep having these debacles over and over.

Just my two cents but stand by it. I was drafted at 19 yo in 1968 as were many. It was after the Tet offensive and the 'cannon' needed more fodder. Many men like me from all walks learned to be soldiers, it was eye opening. I learned that many were great ground leaders (officers) in the field like generations before they had to learn on the job. I'm not speaking of office jobs here but raw ground pounding soldiers. Like we suffer today we had the 'incompetents' then Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara and General Westmoreland nothing has changed. Nixon showed hope but the left abandon that to spite him and the likes of a very young senator, Joe Biden, voted to bug out from Saigon then so you see nothing changed.

When Americans deployed in the first Gulf War, the attitude of America towards it's soldiers changed overnight. We went from an odd hangover feeling of Vietnam, despised by the likes of the Clintons and their ilk, and became America's heroes. I drove cross country in '89 to leave my car with my family and I couldn't believe the signs I was seeing in windows across America. And it happened almost overnight. America, as in all things, went for the propaganda value and forgot the underlying ethic. We went overboard in slavish worship of those dedicated to military service, and half the country turned their back on the values they were fighting for -- constitutional democracy. The wife and I have been waiting for the worm to turn. Having watched what happened to America's other heroes -- police -- we've been preparing for the day when America, led by the progressive mob, turn on her Veterans. Hence, no Veteran license plates in this family, and the window stickers are easily removable. We always thought the blowback would be in reaction to the money train that is now VA disability compensation -- the world's largest worker's comp fraud operation backed by an unlimited federal budget. But it looks like it may now be the Afghanistan debacle.

Just a thought from a 30 year vet...I entered in 1972 and retired in 2002...it is not your Army that is making the decisions...it is your venal politicians and the State, CIA, and Pentagon leaders...if Trump and his Administration was in charge there would be no Afghanistan debacle and this would not be an issue...the world is very small and there is no time to constitute a first-class force...in saying that the military leaders (4-stars) who have remained silent and backed the decrepit, demented President who caused this catastrophic, humanitarian disaster...make my skin crawl

The writer is welcome to his opinion but I am more than a little disgusted with his conclusions. The USA has over many periods of our history been very negligent in not putting adequate resources into the maintenance of an adequate military. Look at the situation in every great war we have endured. The war of 1812 began as a total disaster as the British saw a chance to reclaim their colonies when the US declared war. The civil war had a disastrous beginning for the union. WWI saw the USA unable to field an adequate force until the last year of the war and even then this nation relied on the military tech of all our allies. WWII saw the USA again totally inadequate to face the enemy. Today a nation can be totally destroyed before the time required to raise an army by conscription. When I enlisted in the Army rather than go straight to graduate school, the draft was the reason I chose to enlist. That was before the lottery, when local draft boards made decisions about who to conscript, decisions many considered corrupt. The lottery was a better system only because it was only randomly unfair. I had been raised in the service as an Air Force dependent, so I went with high respect for the military. I think you can see today that we are living in a very dangerous time. As President Reagan once said, peace is maintained through strength. Today no nation can have great confidence that the USA is a dependable ally.

The American public needs this conversation. Washington told us, "The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest." Let's consider those words in the context of "Leader of the Free World"...or "The Policeman of the World." He also said, "The nation, prompted by ill-will and resentment, sometimes impels to war the government, contrary to the best calculations of policy. The government sometimes participates in the national propensity, and adopts through passion what reason would reject..." Washington never anticipated the expenditure of $6.7 TRILLION over 20 years in a place like Afghanistan. He never anticipated a garrison of American troops in Europe lasting over 60 years, either. Nor the same in Korea. These sorts of things are commonplace...becasue the USA is "Leader of the Free World." Read his farewell message. It contains much wisdom we no longer heed. Today, I guess, Washington would be not so great as he was.

Republican officials’ timidity with regard to the outrages that the Democratic Party is committing against the American people under the Biden Administration dampens the American people’s urge to resist. Their default of leadership helps the Democrats’ seizure of long-term oligarchic power. The people’s deep resentment, however, will follow whoever and whatever ventures offer protection. As we look at the disgraceful coda of the Global War on Terror and the tens of thousands of our countrymen who have been maimed or killed with scant results, it is clear to all but few (sadly, those few seem to occupy a lot of Defense Department jobs and think tank posts), there must be a better way to fight our wars. If we look to history, and even demands from the anti-war Left, we might find a better way forward.

It's the same question civil litigators regularly use in late-night commercials when they're looking to add new members to class action lawsuits, but compared to asbestos poisoning, the side-effects of prescription medicines, or injuries from medical devices, the Democrats are the Grand Pooh-bahs of causing physical and emotional harm to everyday Americans.

The COVID pandemic has witnessed the exercise of state “police powers” on a scale and scope unprecedented in America’s peacetime history. Out of fear of contagion, massive amounts of private property in the form of shops, restaurants, bars, and other businesses were peremptorily seized and shuttered. The rights of landlords to collect rents and evict tenants were suspended. The ability of people to cross from one state to another was hobbled by regulations, quarantines, and delays. And most of this was accomplished by governors and mayors acting by decree, with only the most tenuous of statutory authorizations.

A manufactured panic over the January 6 rally has provided Biden and his flunkies with an excuse to attack the U.S. military. The Biden administration has implemented an effort to root out political "extremism" in the military in order to work toward a military with more 'diversity, equity, and inclusion', despite little evidence of any such extremists actually operating within the ranks:

These efforts began with some grumbling about the use of the military to enforce law and order during the Black Lives Matter riots of last summer. They reached a fever pitch during the uncertain period between the election of 2020 and the inauguration of Joe Biden.  CORRECTION*

Prior to that, the network had carried water for him, skewed the news, and engaged in sycophancy, to the point of ending up a target of James O'Keefe. Now it's The Atlantic's turn.
