Southwest Airlines grounded flights across the country Tuesday for the second time in less than 24 hours, amid reports of nationwide computer issues. Air travelers took to Twitter by the thousands with reports of what airline staff reportedly told them was a computer system outage — hours after “intermittent performance issues” with a third-party weather app forced a similar group stop Monday night. “We are aware of system issues and are working quickly to resolve. We will share more info soon,” Southwest posted on its official Twitter account at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Airline operations resumed shortly before 4 p.m., Southwest said in a statement.

Third party weather app. Yep. That's why we just bought a new Rand McNally yesterday. Our old one was about 8 years old, starting to be enough changes to replace it. We use a Nuvi GPS, too, but always have a the paper maps for backup. I used some of the biggest computers in the world, plus PCs in my engineering career.....and don't fully depend on them, ever. And phone nav.....hah, .what a joke. Always crapping out when you really need it.

#2 is kinda sneaking up on it, but the central point is the lack of investment in intra company infrastructure. If you are relying on a third party app to run your day to day, you have failed. Backup? Nope, can't do that, it costs money. I admit my bias. As a former IT pro (starting before we called it IT) I have watched penny squeezing to an absurd level. I personally know of a fortune 500 co that to this day uses a 386 as a DHCP server for an entire nearby country running RedHat Linux. You think maybe a 20yr old computer might need swapped? I understand the same CO cut 50% of the IT workforce and contracted India. I bailed long before , but it was a regular spoken threat at each and every meeting with upper management. Ok, how to fix isn't pretty. Think about why stockholders aren't seeing decent returns? Where is the money being consumed? What of these huge CEO/Upper tier salaries? In the couple of firms I recall the founders and founders families are firmly planted with a near majority stock holder position, so don't give me that 'retention' garbage. Every company begins with an idea. If it's a good idea, and well executed, the founders do well. As time passes more attention is paid to the stock price vs the customer service aspect. Accountants take over. Millions each year go to Washington..oh, not directly to the government, but through K street who write and pay for the passage of favorable bills. Yet still the upper level increases the take. I suspect there is a dark cloud coming that may change the way the current robber barons operate. I suspect we actually HAD it in PDJT. I hope that he or his peer in thought return before it's too late and the actual producers of wealth go Galt on us.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland celebrated Flag Day on Monday by hoisting the “Progress Pride” flag above the Interior building in Washington, DC. “Today we celebrate love,” Haaland wrote on social media with a picture of the flag. “For the first time ever, the Progress Pride Flag is raised over Interior. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been slammed for sending a 'deranged' email to one of her female staffers berating her for failing to scheduled enough 'office time'. The condescending message was sent by Lightfoot to her then-scheduler Taylor Lewis on January 28, but was only obtained by the Chicago Tribune this week. The paper was investigating reports of high staff turnover at City Hall when they uncovered the 'unhinged' email. The message included sentences which Lightfoot repeated more than a dozen times—apparently in order to really get her point across.(Snip) In the email, Lightfoot continued to patronizingly repeat each sentence she subsequently wrote.

San Francisco has become a shoplifter’s paradise—with thieves like the one caught on video looting a Walgreens emboldened by relaxed punishment for the crime as businesses shutter, cops say. The Walgreens heist, which happened right in front of a security guard, renewed the debate over a controversial city law called Proposition 47. “What happened in that Walgreens has been going on in that city for quite a while,” San Francisco police Lt. Tracy McCray said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” Wednesday. “I’m used to it,” McCray continued. “I mean, we can have a greatest hits compilation of people just walking in and cleaning out the store

There is something you need to know because it is of overwhelming importance to America’s survival as a constitutional democratic republic: The Biden administration is moving inexorably to making it a crime to oppose Biden and the Democrat party’s policies. Attorney General Merrick Garland is organizing a massive task force to hunt those illusory “White supremacists,” who just happen to be Trump supporters. Moreover, the federal charging documents against many of those being held for trespassing in Congress reveal that some of the people most active in planning January 6 and encouraging others to act were FBI agents or informants.
