Stop new oil and gas investment, energy watchdog
says in tougher stance on emissions

The world must stop investing in new oil and gas wells in order to hit ambitious climate goals by 2050. That’s a more aggressive stance from influential watchdog, the International Energy Agency, in a report out Tuesday. According to the IEA, there is a narrow but viable pathway for redesigning a global energy sector that produces net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 — the mid-century target adopted by the U.S., the European Union and select others. China, the world’s largest polluter and one that has continued to expand coal use, has tagged 2060 as its goal

By 'this year' they mean today. No new investment of any kind in any fossil fuel project including specifically no new oil and gas wells drilled as of today. No new exploration beginning now.

"Carbon emissions" are a good thing. They keep all the green plants alive, which are the entire basis of all life on Planet Earth.

They seem to think we can keep our "green" energy tech (solar panels, wind farms, electric cars) while cutting off the carbon-emitting power sources. The notion is completely unrealistic, of course; but when did the unicorn-sniffing Lefties ever let reality interrupt their utopian fantasies?

The Western World would not have developed without the exploitation of fossil fuels. Our entire American way of life, including our leisure time and enjoyment of the arts is intrinsically related to our ability to exploit mineral deposits, enabling our ability to produce and store food, making grains, vegetables, and meat products available to feed humans around the world. We saw how panicked the` hypocrites on the left got when we had but a short fuel supply interruption in the eastern US and how the Gores, Kerrys, and Thornbergs of the world cannot wean themselves from international air travel but some pointy headed communists think that they have the authority to ban by royal edict our use of petroleum based products, which are a significant component of practically every consumer product, including modern medications, TVs, modern handguns, rifles, and shotguns and the ubiquitous smart phones attached to every progressive hand the world over. Are we expected to give up the core ingredient of civilization without a bloody darned fight? Ever wonder how marine fossils can be found on hill tops around the world? Or how tropical plant fossils and the fossilized remains of the dinosaurs that ate the plants can be found in desolate arid deserts around the world? What are now a deserts were once tropical rainforests and the climate changed yet again, all without the benefit of SUVs spewing carbon from I-5 through I-10 to I-95. Throughout geologic history, the radical climate changes are the norm, and North and South poles have shifted more than once but none of it can be blamed on human activity, as humans were still millions of years from emerging on Earth. While humans can't destroy the Earth, select "special" humans, ostensibly our betters, can certainly destroy our lives but only if we allow it.

Israel had a relatively quiet night on Wednesday without rocket sirens since about 1 am until Thursday morning. The quiet came as Israel and Hamas are said to be close to a possible ceasefire that could go into effect as soon as Thursday evening or Friday night. A senior Hamas official told CNN on Wednesday night that he expects a ceasefire agreement to be reached within the next couple of days, Israeli media reported. "I think ceasefire mediation will work,” deputy head of the Hamas political branch Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook said. “The equation was clear

The vote in the House over whether to create a “January 6th Commission” has ended. The bill passed, which is expected given who runs the chamber. What wasn’t as expected (or perhaps it was?) is that 35 Republicans joined hands with their Democrat colleagues, agreeing to walk headlong into a partisan buzzsaw. This per The Daily Caller. The House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would create a bipartisan, 9/11-style commission into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, with dozens of Republicans joining Democrats in a rebuke of GOP leadership. The bill passed 252 to 175 with support from 35 Republicans, even though top GOP leaders opposed it and

The iconic American suburban neighborhoods that attract families looking for safe and prosperous areas have been targeted in recent years – first from those who believe zoning is a racist tactic to keep certain people out of the neighborhoods. And now a report from the left-leaning Brooking Institute is claiming that the “unsustainable” nature of the suburbs means they must be transformed in the name of preventing climate change. The Brooking Institute report touts President Joe Biden’s “ambitious and necessary” goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission to 50 percent of the amount emitted in 2005 by 2030, with even bigger reductions by 2050. Brookings, citing a New York Times

Democrats were trying to push through the vote on a “Jan. 6 Commission” today in the House. They succeeded, with 35 Republicans crossing over to vote in favor of it, not seeming to care that it’s going to be a “bash Republicans” effort, rather than any sort of real investigation. There are already multiple investigations going on, so there wasn’t any need for an additional. This is simply an opportunity for Democrats to bash Republicans. How do we know how biased this will be? Because we can already see how slimy Democrats are being about it. Right before the vote on the Commission,

Steven Hayward at Power Line has a prescient observation about the unflattering expose of Kamala Harris that ran in The Atlantic two days ago: ...perhaps the most revealing tidbit in the whole article, though it may not be evident to the casual reader: Harris has been an elected official for 18 years straight, but she has only a few senior aides on staff who have worked for her for more than a few months. Turf battles have been a recurring feature of Harris offices over the years, but her newest circle believes it is finally getting her on track after years of past staffers not serving her well.
Labor Shortage Caused by Government 4 replies

America has a record 8.1 million job openings. The media call it a “labor shortage.” But it’s not a labor shortage; it’s an incentive shortage. “No one wants to work,” says a sign on a restaurant drive-thru speaker in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Please be patient with the staff that did show up.” I never wanted to work. I got a job because I had to support myself. That was good for me. It forced me out of my comfort zone. It made me a better person. Had government offered me almost equal money not to work, I never would have applied. Today, government takes away that incentive.

A new study of COVID-19 vaccine recipients globally should give the public health community a reason to pause on their messaging that everyone needs to be vaccinated regardless of prior infection with the virus. The researchers surveyed slightly more than 2,000 vaccinated individuals who were at least seven days past their first vaccine dose and monitored their reports of side effects and their severity through the vaccination process. They compared the results for recovered patients with a confirmed COVID-19 PCR or antigen test with those who had not had COVID-19. From the study (emphasis mine): People with prior COVID-19 exposure were largely excluded from the vaccine trials

Biden yields to Putin on Nord Stream 2 pipeline 12 replies

Axios reports that the Biden administration will waive sanctions on the corporate entity and CEO overseeing the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline into Germany. This means, in all likelihood, that the pipeline will become operational. That’s a huge win for Vladimir Putin. Why? For one thing, as Axios says, Russian gas currently has to pass through Ukraine on its way to Europe. Bypassing Ukraine with a direct pipeline to Germany is an opportunity for Russia to advance its goal of isolating its former client state, now a fledgling democracy, from Western Europe. In addition, the pipeline increases Russian leverage over the rest of Europe.
