Are the Courts Moving to Require

In 1964, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of Sullivan v. the New York Times, a landmark opinion regarding libel law and a gift to irresponsible and inaccurate journalists across the land. Issued during the civil-rights era—a time when many constitutional protections were unthinkingly tossed aside in the name of a higher good—Sullivan essentially gave carte blanche for media companies to attack public figures with legal impunity. The case began in 1960 when the Times ran an ad from supporters of Martin Luther King, Jr. requesting donations to help the civil-rights leader.

Comments:

Give the media an inch, they'll seize the nation rather than face it.

Requiring a responsible press would be an earth shaking move but with liberal John Roberts at the helm of the supreme court I have my doubts about it happening.

Does anyone really have faith in our judicial system after what occurred after the last election? The FBI's failure to open investigations into the obvious fraud that occurred and the courts refusal to take up election fraud cases can lead us to the conclusion that our entire judicial system is corrupt. Riot and cause havoc in Portland nightly that's okay. Trespass in the US Capital on January 6ht and feel the full weight of a corrupted judicial system come down on you,

This correction in the “news” pages of the Washington Post a few days ago is simply stunning—and tells you all you need to know about the state of the mainstream media today: “Two months after publication of this story, the Georgia secretary of state released an audio recording of President Donald Trump’s December phone call with the state’s top elections investigator. The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source. Trump did not tell the investigator to ‘find the fraud’ or say she would be ‘a national hero’ if she did so.

On the left, the tumbrels are rolling again, delivering former icons like Dr. Seuss, Pepe Le Pew, and other enemies of the people to the cultural guillotines for immediate beheading. Their crimes: their decades-old sensibilities are out of touch with those of the seething, humorless and frankly not very bright scolds who currently inhabit the fever swamps of Twitter, Facebook, and the editorial pages of the New York Times. Go ahead, laugh; what could be more ridiculous than discerning “rape culture” in the broadly drawn behavior of a French striped skunk who’s been looking for love in all the wrong places since 1945?

The genius of the Left's success in achieving their favored policy positions is found in their favorite tactic: first, posit a counter-factual and, second, act on it as if it were true -- with maximum governmental force. Examples abound: that men can transform themselves into biological women by simply wishing it to happen, and then can be protected -- nay, favored -- by a raft of new laws designed for their "protection." That the real women are offtimes physically damaged by this malignant fantasy matters not one bit. After all, "rights" are more important that reality.

We’re now six weeks or so into the sham presidency of Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr., and already the end of the Biden Era seems near. A bumbling shell of a man, constantly attended by his wife, Jill, and with the lengthening shadow of his vice president, Kamala Harris, looming in the background, Biden seems incapable of doing anything except signing the slew of executive orders his handlers shove under his nose until at last, exhausted, his team “calls a lid” on his workday and packs him back off upstairs at the White House for a nice lie-down before noontime.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s appalling decision not to hear a Republican challenge to Pennsylvania’s extra-legal changing of election laws shortly before the 2020 vote—which likely delivered the state to Joe Biden in the wee hours of Election Night—is just the latest disgrace of the John Roberts court, and a clear signal of future trouble for the Republic. Pusillanimity has marked the chief justice and the institution he leads since his volte-face regarding the 2012 Obamacare decision, in which he saved the misbegotten, intrusive, and blatantly unconstitutional law at the last minute by choosing to call the “individual mandate” a tax—

On March 4, 1933, in his first inaugural address, Franklin Delano Roosevelt took square aim at the national panic over the Depression as he spoke to his fellow citizens. “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and of vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory.” [snip] Today, that country has nearly vanished into history,

Let’s start with this: the disturbance at the Capitol on January 6, as Donald Trump and his supporters made a last-ditch attempt to somehow overturn the results of the 2020 election, was neither an “insurrection” nor a “siege,” nor was it conducted by “seditionists.” At best, it was an ill-advised, unsupervised, possibly provoked demonstration in a lost cause that could have no good effect other than the venting of personal pique and MAGA fury. The fact is, the election was lost back in the summer, and even White House veterans knew it—out of money and essentially rudderless

Two weeks into the Biden administration and already the prospects of restoring the American spirit, the economy, and the old Constitution look bleak. In a flurry of executive orders, the new president—superannuated figurehead though he is—has sought immediately to overturn the legacy of the Trump administration on such matters as border security, immigration, and energy self-sufficiency. And that’s just for starters. “Make America Great Again” has become “Make America Grovel Again.” Which is, of course, exactly the way the punitive, “progressive” left wants it as it goes about refashioning the country along the lines of its own fascist antecedents.

The unconstitutional lockdowns provoked by the Chinese Communist Party virus have dragged on for almost a year now, with little sign of the “pandemic” letting up. “Two weeks to slow the spread” and “fifteen days to flatten the curve”—lies from the moment they were uttered, as anyone with an ounce of sense knew—have molted into months and soon enough into years. Meanwhile, the media has been content to celebrate—excuse me, “mourn”—the mounting death toll attributed to Covid-19 as long as it could damage the Trump administration, now driven from a militarily occupied Washington, D.C.

As the forces of Donald Trump break ranks and scatter in the wake of Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th president of the United States, all seems lost. The president’s strong record of accomplishment—including the roaring economy, until it met its COVID doom; middle-class tax relief; and stabilizing the Middle East—is about to be overturned in an orgy of vengeful Democratic executive orders. Meanwhile, conservatives find themselves falsely tarred with “sedition” and unceremoniously booted off social-media platforms, while Trump and his family may be under investigation for years to come.

The best show on television right now features a major city, the capital of an unsteady government, that is gradually being pulled apart by two competing political parties. The center can’t hold; it’s being steadily overwhelmed by a pair of rival Socialist groups who don’t hesitate to take their conflicts into the streets as they sweep away their country’s past and head into a glorious future. Meanwhile, the citizens of this increasingly fractured metropolis take refuge in a variety of vices, including transvestitism, casual sex of all permutations, part-time prostitution, blackmail, drug addiction, financial speculation and, when necessary, murder—and these are just the cops

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear oral argument in Caniglia v. But what would ultimately become a major Fourth Amendment case began with an elderly couple’s spat over a coffee mug. In August 2015, 68-year-old Edward Caniglia joked to Kim, his wife of 22 years, that he didn’t use a certain coffee mug after his brother-in-law had used it because he “might catch a case of dishonesty.” That quip quickly spiraled

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The mayor of Oakland, California, on Tuesday announced a privately funded program that will give low-income families of color $500 per month with no rules on how they can spend it. The program is the latest experiment with a “guaranteed income,” an idea that giving poor people a set amount of money each month helps ease the stresses of poverty that often lead to poor health while hindering their ability to find full-time work. The idea isn’t new, but it’s having a revival across the U.S. after some mayors launched small, temporary programs across the country in

Carlson said that the former president 'took a break from becoming one of the richest men in the world' to weigh in.
