Of course, nobody can replace Rush, but Westwood One, a syndicator whose parent also owns many of the biggest stations that carried the late talk show giant, is making a bid to grab his audience by moving Dan Bongino’s talk show to Rush’s time slot (noon to 3 PM Eastern) and replacing Rush in many of the top ten markets where its parent Cumulus Media owns the stations on which Rush appeared.
Rush’s show, currently being guest-hosted, is syndicated by Premier Networks, a subsidiary of iHeartMedia (snip) the two giants of radio station ownership and syndication are about to enter a titanic battle

I loved Rush and still do. Listened to him for 30 years but it’s about time to saddle up and move on......

I loved Rush. He was one of a kind, and I'll never forget him. but agree with #1 - time to accept that he's gone and move on.

There are many conservative pundits. Very few of those put in half the prep time that Rush did.
Very very few can blend humor with outrage (Mark Steyn is one).
None have a rapport with a loyal audience numbering in the millions.
Only Rush could do what he did. I would prefer to hear Rush reruns. Snerdly could splice the material together that is still relevant.

I’m with you, #1. No one will replace Rush but Bongino is also a good listen. And he’s recently been given a cancer-free diagnosis. I’m looking forward to his show. Now, let’s let Rush Rest In Peace.

OUTSTANDING! Go, Dan!
Using his (sometimes amazing) street smarts and his 6th sense he's the best at blowing away (often clever and plausible) cover-stories to disclose the under-lying ugly truth.

One of the biggest mistakes people tend to make when replacing an icon is to look for the next, in this case Rush. There will never be another Rush. I can't think of a better person to carry the torch than Dan. He'll be the first Dan Bongino not the next Rush and we will love the job he does.

A good choice. I wonder if Rush had a hand in making it? I also hope Snerdly stays on and feeds in apt selections from Rush's broadcasts, as they're doing now.

This is exciting! I have been a Bongino listener for the last year. He has quite a network of informants, getting him out in front of so many stories we read about elsewhere days or weeks later.
It will be interesting to see how he works with callers, which is not part of his current podcast work.

In Jacksonville, Mark Kaye is moving into the 12-3 slot. He's not Rush, but he is enjoyable to listen to.

I moved on from Rush the last few weeks when he had someone else in. Dan Bongino is on my FB page and I think I won't be listening to him on air. His constant anger is a turn off.

#8 (and anyone else who thought otherwise), Dan is not taking over Rush's show, so no, Rush had no hand in this. Bongino is taking over the time slot on a rival network, to fight for the listeners of Rush's show.

Premiere networks (Rush's Syndicator, owned by iHeart Media/Clear Channel Communications) certainly will have to fight to keep their turf, the 12-3 eastern time slot, on the over 600 stations that carried Rush's program.
I love Rush but I'm not sure outside of Mark Steyn, who would come close to keeping what Rush built. And from what I hear, Steyn doesn't want the job. His experience with other syndicators/big business left him cold and the only reason he did the fill-in for Rush was because of his friendship with Rush.
At some time (and it could be soon), the "what would Rush think about this" will grow old. There's a place for that -- and anyone taking over the Rush Limbaugh franchise would be well advised to use that treasure trove wisely -- but it's going to wither slowly.
Dan Bongino is just the first of many who are going to chip away at that fortress that Rush built from 12-3.

Rush created the model for the voice of reason and truth on talk radio, and because of him there are many really good local talk shows around the country that discus the important issues facing us.

They should try more than one. He/she who draws most listeners consistently is the obvious successor.

It remains to be seen how many of the stations will put Bongino in that time slot. They might try that at first but I would bet there is going to be some musical chairs played for that slot in the next few years.
I think more likely is Hannity will be moved to that slot if he can get up early enough. It might be difficult because of his late night TV show. It's amazing that he is still doing both shows. Lot's of work. Lot's of coffee.

By this I can only presume that Mark Steyn turned them down. I can agree with him. The show would become 100% of your life.
Mark, PLEASE WRITE MORE. Listening takes too long.

I'll have to see where Bongino lands on the radio dial. Not sure if he'll simply replace the current Rush timeslot I've listened to for so many years.
I've turned off Hannity, as he likes to talk over his guests way too much (why have guests if you don't let them say what they want to say).

I for one am glad that Rush's show didn't just end, that we've had a couple of weeks to hear past highlights and reminisces with his wife and callers. I think it was very appropriate. I wouldn't mind if we get 1 day per week of this (maybe Saturdays).
Rush will always be relevant. Whoever has put together the last 2 weeks has done a great job.
That said, I don't see how the program can just go on indefinitely. It is Rush's show, it can never be anyone else's show. I have enjoyed the variety of guest hosts.
Not entirely ready to bury the Rush Limbaugh show quite yet....
