Seattle may not be dying, as the saying goes. But it could be doing something we haven’t seen in decades around here: shrinking. Whether it was the pandemic, the protests and riots, the urban decay, the high costs, the work-from-home trend or pick your reason, people appear to have ditched the Emerald City last year in unusually large numbers, new data shows.(snip) The number of households filing change-of-address requests to move into Seattle was about the same as it was in 2019. But the number leaving the city limits soared, by 36%.

They would not be apt to go far. So many have moved to Seattle in the past because it gave them seasons without the extremes in weather and related events found in other parts of the country. It is a political disaster, but in one of the most beautiful parts of our country.

i can't imagine what a nightmare it must be for those who are unable to move out of these modern hellholes. Not everyone who feels trapped either by advanced age, job dependency or insufficient funds in any of these progressively regressive cities of protest is ableto take evasive action.

From a Texas perspective this is a good thing. You would hate Houston in July. We would hate your mayor of Seattle, Portland et al. Keep your cancerous politicians and voters.

Poster #1, Kshama Sawant is a Seattle council member, but Shoreline's congressional representative is Primila Jayapal, she's even worse that Sawant. I've lived in Shoreline for 42years. Our southern borderline is Seattle's northern borderline. We lived in Seattle before moving here, both of us grew up in Seattle. Two weeks ago, our next door neighbors put their house up for sale, they lived there for two years but It was completely remodeled 14 years ago by the previous owners, almost a complete takedown and rebuild. They are moving to Bellevue, the new owners are from North Seattle. They were asking...wait for it...$950,000. (This is a neighborhood where all the houses were built in the mid '50's, small ramblers, three bedrooms, one bath. You get the picture.) They had 16 offers and sold it for $960,000. We are in absolute shock over how much it sold for. One thing going for Shoreline is it hasn't yet been taken over by the crazy socialist democrats, but I'm sure in the next few years it will be just as bad as Seattle. We have personal matters still to attend to but will be moving either to Texas where one daughter lives or Arizona where another daughter is planning on moving to, in the next couple of years.

No mention of crime and destruction of property? That is the elephant in the room which cities with dem pol leadership avoid when actually personal and property security are of prime concern.

They'll keep moving further if they work in Seattle. The gov. there might want to start recalculating their property tax take.

By electing over-the-top Marxists to run the city, they have essentially defecated in their own home and now they are moving out because the place suddenly stinks. They carry their mental disease (Progressivism) with them and will bring the same filth to the suburbs.

Amid mounting layoffs in Washington state that have been linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for security guards has jumped, a silver lining following a year of virus-related closures and street protests that have roiled the country and the state. Security guards are now one of the most in-demand occupations in the state, landing in the top 25 roles being sought by employers, despite the nature of the job in which guards could be confronted with life-or-death decisions. "The summer hit and that is when we had a surge in demand," said Steve Jones, CEO of Allied Universal,

TR International, a global chemical distributor, is moving from its home of more than two decades in downtown Seattle, crossing the county line to neighboring Edmonds. The company is one of at least 160 businesses that have left Seattle since last March. While some of the companies that have left Seattle is due to the coronavirus pandemic, business leaders have said that much of it could be traced back to a sense that no one is minding the store in Seattle anymore, and a lack of accountability from city leaders. TR International CEO Megan Gluth-Bohan said the decision to leave was easy. She cited ongoing violence, along with rampant homelessness and drug use.

Much of Seattle’s 2021 cruise season could be canceled after Canadian authorities on Thursday extended a pandemic-related ban on large cruise ships in Canadian waters through February 2022. Passage through Canadian waters and to Canadian ports is key for the Seattle-based cruise business, which has been largely on hold since last spring due to U.S. and Canadian restrictions. (snip) Cancellation of the 2020 cruise season cost around 5,000 local jobs and at least $900 million in economic activity. In 2019, the Seattle cruise industry had its biggest year: Seven cruise lines carried 1.2 million passengers on 11 vessels over more than 220 voyages, a port spokesperson said.

Much of Western Washington had reason to rejoice Thursday when Gov. Jay Inslee modified his COVID-19 restrictions and allowed seven counties, including Pierce, to move to Phase 2 in his revised reopening plan. For the next three months, Washington’s 49 senators and 98 representatives can reassert their status as a co-equal branch of government, no longer sidelined by a governor who wouldn’t call a special session as the public-health crisis dragged on last year.

The president of the Pasco Association of Educators (PAE) claims reopening schools for in-person learning is an example of “white supremacy,” and compares listening to concerned parents to following rioters breaking into the U.S. Capitol. He even says concern over student suicide is an example of “white privilege.” Scott Wilson, PAE president, made a series of unhinged, controversial remarks during a Pasco School Board meeting this week. The statements come as the union pushes for total remote learning for elementary schools, even with near-consensus from the medical community that it is safe to reopen schools with mitigation policies in place.

New data offers a sobering look at how school closures during the pandemic have affected child welfare reporting. After school buildings closed last school year, the Washington state agency that investigates child abuse and neglect received 87% fewer calls from concerned teachers, counselors and other mandatory school reporters on average per week through June. This school year, reports are down 59%. The new data from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) confirms what many educators, families and officials feared: Fewer eyes on children during the pandemic has resulted in fewer reported instances of neglect and abuse.
