James Madison University has renamed three prominent buildings for African Americans who made significant contributions to the public institution in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, culminating a process of historical reckoning that began last summer when officials removed the names of Confederate leaders from the halls. The buildings, all on the quad of the campus in Harrisonburg, now honour elements of the school’s past that had long been overlooked under a plan the JMU governing board approved Friday.
The action “is part of our deliberate effort to underscore JMU’s commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive institution”, the university’s president, Jonathan Alger, said in a statement.
Just how many buildings can you name after Fredrick Douglas and Booker T Washington?

All the modern racists are blacks.
Racism is wrong, regardless of your skin color. I despise all racists equally.

This is the kind of affirmative action that harden hearts. Why do liberal, social justice people think making one group angry helps another group?
This is just more of the left's efforts to divide and conquer. The effort to divide blacks from whites and hispanics has been going on, in earnest, since the 1960s. Encouraging blacks to be angry and offended, and making others tolerate (reverse) discrimination is not a long-term winning strategy.

Their names were probably on the building s because they gave money to the school.

Located next door to formerly great Virginia Military Academy. Where they tore down the statue of Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. Shame on both schools for knuckling under. Says my son, a graduate of VMI, and not a southerner or racist. Incidentally, I don’t care how many things we name after Frederick Douglass. He was a great man by any standard.

My sister is GTHO of Virginia. She has an awesome little horse farm in Louden County which she loves, but the politics have gotten so unbearable she's heading for Ocala, FL. It doesn't hurt that Ocala has been in the 80's this week while VA was almost as cold as Texas.

I do tend disagree with #4 on one small point. Not "all" of the racist are blacks. One of the biggest racists is in the white house. Many of them have white skin and are Demoncrat leaders.

Yes #10, most of us know one or two of them. Racism still comes in all colors.
I am sickened by the lack of fight when the left began tearing down historical, seemingly anything Confederate and/or Old South anything. I would not ever have dreamed the haters of our history would get away with all of this so easily.

One of my limousine lie-beral neighbors has a "BLM - Silence is Violence" sign on their yard.
I really want an excuse to ask the, that since well over 90% of all blacks that are killed are killed by other blacks (according to FBI statistics -- not exactly a bastion of racism), why is everyone being so darn silent on that huge fact?!?!?!?!?
Silly me, I already know the answer: Because their is no profit for the racist thugs in BLM to actually address the major issue of violence against black people!!!

Vandalia, not Virginia. Virginia was an honorable name. Honor is no longer found in Vandalia. Vandals rule there.
I know, I live outside of Richmond, which eats honored monuments.

Um, #7, I think you’re confusing Washington and Lee University with JMU. JMU is in Harrisonburg. W&L and VMI are next door to each other in Lexington.
My daughter applied to JMU in 2008 but didn’t attend. I’m glad.

Do they think they will ever be woke enough or bow down enough to marginally successful black people to be forgiven for being white? Once you start playing this game it never ends. They didn’t build this country. They just helped.

I didn't used to be racist but what makes the news has made my new views.
Avoidance is my safe space.
Let people so as they like and pay the price even if it is only in repugnance.

The cancel gang wants to erase American history, with the exception of slavery which they want to use for political purposes. But American history covers much more than slavery. The leftist politicos ignore the full scope of history from their tunnel-visioned view, which totally distorts the entire picture. No authentic historian can presume to distort history to suit their political gains.

Install as university president a Harvard-educated New Yorker who no doubt despises the South and you get what you deserve. University namesake James Madison was himself a slaveowner; only a matter of time before the old cracker gets his due. First we erase the Confederacy, which represents local defiance against an overreaching federal government, then we do away with the Founders themselves, just as the US Communist Party promised to do.
