Congress held its first hearing on reparations for slavery since the May 2020 death of George Floyd, which reignited the Black Lives Matter movement.
Members of the Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties met over Zoom Wednesday to discuss H.R. 40, which aims to 'establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery.' Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who's spearheading the effort, argued her case with images, holding up pictures of a beaten slave and lynched black Americans. 'This was our life, the back of a beaten slave.

They really do.

Reparations for what ? The native tribes of Africa sold their own people into slavery. Slavery was outlawed 156 years ago. If you want , trace your lineage and we will pay you to go back to the country of your ancestors. See what life in the 18th century is like.

I’ve been working and paying taxes for almost 50 years in order to pay “reparations” in the form of free housing, free food, free medical care, free school and on and on and on. All at the expense of my own family.
You can take your apology and shove it.

Sorry, the Marxist thugs calling themselves BLM did NOT bother anything here in Kansas.
And go to hell for your 'reparations'. Those have been being paid in welfare and affirmative action jobs for 55 years now. WAY, WAY overpaid, too.

What ever happened to people acknowledging the fact that this country STOPPED slavery. This is just a scam to get more dem votes

There is no sewer, no depravity, no lie, too extreme for the rat party. They will do and say anything to get a vote, from inciting riots to trying to cover themselves in false virtue. When the rat party has paid extortion to the loudest race hustler for the civil war atrocity where they barricaded the doors to an orphanage in NYC and let all the black children burn to death, then they can start apologizing for Robert Byrd, Lester Maddox and all the other rat racist that built their cult and who run it today. Whatever they do just make sure they do it with their own money or the money of their foreign masters.

Isn't it the demoslut party that needs to apologize? It was the demoslut party that dominated the south in those days. It rich southern democrats that created trouble in D.C. and who started the Civil War. So the demoslut party can apologize if they want, but don't include every U.S. citizen in that apology.

Both the former slaves and slave owners have long been deceased. There is nobody to apologize to, nor anyone to punish, for slavery. Let it freakin' go and actually deal with the problems of this nation today!!!!!!

Your baseline is this: compare your standard of living, your life expectancy, your education level your general health with your DNA relative back in the old country / continent. Who is better off?
As Mohamed Ali said after a trip to Africa “it’s a good thing my granddaddy got on that boat. “

Let the Democrats apologize, as it was the Democrats who ran the South and supported the slavery era. I don’t need to apologize as my ancestors had nothing to do with slavery. Also a number of my ancestors served in the Union Army in battles like Antietam, Gettysburg, and Vicksburg where their bones still lie today. When they are at it, the Democrats can do their best to impeach another Republican President, Abraham Lincoln for inciting the Civil War.

All reparations should be paid by the dimokkkrap party which fought a Civil War to preserve slavery. And created institutional racism in the South to manipulate voting.
Why isn't the organization which did it called to account?

The Taki article a couple down from this had a bit of wisdom: under the miasma (pollution/vapor) theory of black underachievement, the root cause is always white racism. And because there is so little white racism in reality, they must find it in the past or make up fake white racism to make their theory work.
This commission seems to be part of that finding-racism-where-it-doesn't-exist-because-whitey-is-bad.

Something else to fiddle around with. Think “Nero”.
Statues in Chicago, reparations for slavery, trying to destroy the best president our country ever had.….Democrats are incapable of moving forward. Destroyers. Not interested in the welfare of the American people.

Educated and wealthy black members of the political and ruling class argue that they were oppressed. They were not oppressed. None of them was ever beaten or threatened with lynching. Why are real Africans trying to get into the US by the thousands if it is such a horrible racist country? When they get to the US, they become very successful and are far wealthier than they could ever have been back in Africa.I recall what Mohammad Ali said when he got back from his first trip to Africa to fight George Foreman. He was asked what he thought of Africa. He replied, "Thank God my granddaddy got on that boat."

Is there anyone alive to day that was a Slave?
No.
Whose parents were slaves?
No, but some might have lived under (Jim Crow)
Grandparents who were slaves?
No, but they definitely lived under Jim Crow.
Jim Crow was a Democrat Program, run by the Democrat Party. Talk to the Democrats, please. I didn't keep you down. The Democrats did.

All Democrats except for one illiterate weasel named Johnson, who couldn't give up his gov'mnt job because he would have to go back to sewing clothes back home, abandoned their elected positions in Congress. The Civil war was between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats owe an apology, America and the GOP righted their wrong.

I have blue eyes and once had light brown hair which is now more gray. Both sides of my family came to this country before 1776 so its possible that one of my ancestors was a Negro. If so, am I entitled to a share of the reparations?

Sorry #3 but they would get their reparations thru taxpayer money and you would be paying it.
And: I demand reparations as my ancestors fought and died or were wounded fighting to free the slaves.
Anyone else have any claims for reparations?

The plantations were owned by absentee landowners in Europe. Because of primogeniture, second sons were given land in America. The people that came here never had slaves, not wanted them. They had no way to support, control, or deal with it. My family came here in the late 1600's and never owned any slaves. Families included the grand parents and children. That was all any of them could support.

Perhaps they should pay back the 3 Trillion Dollars taken from the "producers" over the past 4+ decades?

The black equivalent of "Stolen Valor"! Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee was never a slave and never suffered a "the back of a beaten slave." There is no one alive in the USA who is owed reparation for being or having been a slave nor anyone alive in the USA who is liable to pay reparation for being or having been a slave owner.

How about a million dollars to each freedman. What, no freed slaves are alive, and we've spent tens of trillions of dollars and counting propping up Africans during the quagmire War on Poverty, with nothing to show for it?
