The Democrats who prosecuted Donald Trump's impeachment trial faced puzzlement and criticism from senators on Saturday as they surprised most everyone — Trump’s lawyers and Senate Democrats included — with an attempt to call witnesses, only to abandon it as lawmakers balked at the possibility of an extended trial.
The House impeachment managers opened the final day of the trial by announcing they would seek to depose Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., who had shared her account of a call between Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol (Snip)
Senators in both parties reacted with shock and frustration to the gambit, with many

What Jalonick calls “messy” was just a result of the Dems, lead by snarky, mendacious little Jamie Rasnick, trying to pull a last minute gotcha. Van Der Veen made law professor (what a joke) Raskin look like a rank amateur.

The dims abandoned ship on bringing witnesses when the pubbies revealed that Nanie would be subpoenaed to testify. The pubbies had planned to expose her and prove that she knew well in advance and was complicit about the capitol building breach that was planned and carried out by antifa/blm agitators. Turtle was also aware of the break-in when it was in the planning stages.

Just further proof that the loony Rats screw up EVERYTHING they touch...even their own phony-baloney impeachment shams. They're absolutely useless for America...just like the so-called ''media.''

Graham's announcement that he would call Pelosi to explain why the capital was left unsecured is probably what shut down the call for witnesses.

Even Hamilton Berger (who went 2 for 1000s against Perry Mason) wouldn't use a "she heard he said that another person said" testimony or statement in a legal proceeding.

The Democrats could not take a chance on Pelosi being called to testify before the US Senate that would be carried on national TV, as what if she showed up drunk?

Can't really put your finger on ole graham is what he wants US to think, but that old rope-a-dope isn't working anymore; at least it doesn't work for me. You can't just say and act it anymore, you have to prove your conservative bonafides. Lindsey came up with a way for pubs/himself to look good while they allowed this sham impeachment to take place after the certification of fraudulent electoral college votes and the installation of a sham basement dweller.
They will keep playing these games until we put a stop to it. Call them out every time and don't trust anything they say or do--look at what's really going on, not what they want US to think. Let's be like Rush and live in Realville. Deal with the real issues when something's come up and not the smoke screens they put up. We've been blind for too many decades; it's time to wake the heck up!

"... with an attempt to call witnesses, only to abandon it as lawmakers balked at the possibility of..."being forced to call Pelosi and have her commit perjury by lying about what she knew about Trump's offer to provide 10,000 National Guard troops to control the crowd.
No wonder they caved.

Of course, you must have either heard or heard about Mitch McConnell's post-impeachment speech. Pay attention...the message he sent FPDT was very clear. The GOPe "saved" him this time, but will never again. In other words, go to Florida and enjoy retirement in peace. Like Napoleon exiled to Elbe. Get out of line, and the investigations and lawsuits will rain down on his head. It is now up to the GOPe to undermine FPDT, chiseling away any legacy he may have left like the Germans did the Nazi regime. They will "regret" these past four years whenever and however they can. The Establishment wants its followers back, you know, those "conservatives" in on the gag. Populists will follow, with no alternative if they remain fixated on "The Democrats". Their real political enemies are much closer at hand.

I thought it was a sharp and clear cut end to the trial. The Senators alloted 5 days, the time was up, so they packed up and went home. Nothing was accomplished, but nothing ever is accomplished in the Senate chambers. The only accomplishments that can be pointed to are those of Trump, who the Senators met to condemn for not defending them, forgetting that they are fully empowered to defend themselves. In fact, defending the Capitol is the responsibility of the Senate and House, not the President.

As a Pennsylvanian, I am usually embarrassed by just one of my senators. Now both have embarrassed me.
Why does Virgin Islands have a representative in the House? Why use her as part of the prosecution team?

President Trump will always be able to call Pelosi and others if he is sued civilly or any other type of lawsuit regarding this matter is brought.

The prosecution had visuals of seeing Nancy Pelosi as a witness with that voice through her masked face, using air karate chops with all the hand gestures then balked at the thought. Great counter punch Van Der Veen you are the person of the hour.

Re #13, i wondered the same thing. And Plaskett was having one fine old time… She was born in Brooklyn to parents from the Virgin Islands. She was a prosecutor, then at some point moved to the VI and ran for the At Large Representative that they have in the House. It is a nonvoting office. Her being part of the House manager team made no sense to me. But she certainly enjoyed it. Relished it would be more accurate… I thought she was very Mooch with better clothes.

Trump defense lawyer, brilliant Michael Van Der Veen, mentioned calling 100 witnesses and deposing them in his Philadelphia office. Kaboom! The whole notion of having their witness folded like a cheap umbrella. Her deposition was entered in the record and they went to the vote..
