The headline of a January 29 column by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker read: 'The GOP isn't doomed. It's dead." Parker is not alone. Many commentators these days are pronouncing the Republican Party dead, or nearly dead, or dying, or something. A news article today in the New York Times is headlined, "'There's Nothing Left': Why Thousands of Republicans Are Leaving the Party." It is true that Democrats now control the White House, the House, and (barely) the Senate. Just four years ago, Republicans controlled all three. So no one can argue that the GOP is doing well.
