On Tuesday, Democrats introduced a bill that would raise the minimum wage nationally to $15 an hour over five years. That would more than double the current minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
The Raise the Wage Act would increase pay to $9.50 an hour in 2021, $11 in 2022 before rising n in 2023 to $12.50 per hour. The minimum wage under the legislation would tick upward to $14 in 2024 and then $15 in 2025.
Job losses from the minimum-wage hike would be at least 1.3 million, according to the Congressional Budget Office. But most economists who aren’t socialists think that number will be much higher.

Whenever minimum wages have been raised in the past, unions, executives and pretty much anybody who has any say at all demands that their own wages rise at the same rate, not in dollars per hour, but by the same percentage rate. Anyone living on retirement they were able to save through the years has their retirement decimated. Entry level jobs no longer available because the product produced isn't worth the cost. Interest rates go up dramatically. (No more new house, car, or investment in business.) Prices go up because the cost has been artificially raised and so now the higher wage is back to being worth the same or usually less than the old wage.
Rising minimum wages hurt pretty much everyone except the politician who once again has convinced the low info voters that they are doing something.
One thing we do all get is double digit, (at least), inflation and double digit unemployment rates. Of course that is the Demoncrat fantasy right there.

Democrats are eager and quick to destroy. How do you like this madness? All you cowardly Republicans who could not be bothered to stand when this election was being stolen in real time bear a part in this destruction. When you could have made a difference, you chose not to. Sure, it won’t effect you now but eventually there will come a day when your loved ones will suffer mightily because of your cowardice. When the country is awash in debt, poverty, violence, lawlessness, and misery look no further than your mirror to see who is to blame. All you had to do is stand for what was right and fair. You sentenced every American to this misery and we will not forget.

What does it matter? The people affected are deplorables, bitter clingers, and worthy of death. Kill them all and make the world safe for Marx. You can't make an omelet without breaking a lot of eggs. About 80,000,000 of them, in fact.
"Exterminate, exterminate, exterminate" is the battle cry of the Dalek Democrats.

Speculation - My guess is that government union employees wages are tied to the minimum wage. If so, they would make out well.

The United States of Dominion believes in living wage equity. Employers who don't want to pay living wages should not be allowed to exist because they only believe in dying wages and that's not "fair."

Under this scheme, only the most productive will be retained - the rest of you will be permanently dependent on The Gubmint, which is actually one of the goals anyway.

The Democrats have already shutdown any businesses paying minimum wages, so they can raise them without effect, as the jobs have already been eliminated from the economy. That is, except for illegals, which businesses and Democrats pay whatever they like. All business is now online, or big box stores. The big box stores say they pay the $15 an hour, and they do, except they have reduced headcount, so their labor costs have not increased, and now you go through self checkout, the stores are cleaned by robots, soon the shelves will also be stocked by robots.

Target has been paying $15 an hour for over two years now. The net result? Shirkers need not apply. The demand for high quality employees has increased, the hiring of young people has declined, the number of part time employees has doubled. Target tracks employee productivity like clockwork. If a person isn't getting it done, then they are gone - unless they are of a protected class, then it's a protracted process.
The nationalization of a $15 an hour wage will devastate youth and minority employment in entry level positions. But then, that's the plan, isn't it?

Employers are already adjusting. Our local grocery store has a long row of cash registers but there's rarely more than 2 open. The self-checkout feature is the future.

Pretty sure that union wages are pegged to the minimum wage and have been since it first appeared (in the 60s?)

Eliminate minimum wage, suspend federal taxes for employers and employees and allow employers to pay employees in cash with no reporting to the feds - kind of like how illegal aliens get paid (which gives them an unfair advantage over American workers and all the paperwork that goes with hiring them).

Maybe the goobermint should go a step further and simply declare that they will set the prices on all goods and services. Remember Nixon's ill-fated wage and price freeze in 1971?

A simple fast tood burger meal is pushing ten dollars now. When it gets up there into the $15-$20 range, there goes BK, McDonalds and Wendy's, all over the country.

The democrats don't care about... outcome... the only care about the visual and narrative....keeping WE the people on the plantation is their ultimate goal...they can control the people if their lifeline is connected to the crumbs from queen nancy's table...do as I say or no stimulus for you...it's obvious now... the impeachment trial was to divert attention from the man scribbling his signature on executive orders in the White House prompted by snakes from the DC swamp standing behind him...

I work for a big box retail store. There is no way it can stay in business with a starting wage of $15. It's 'woke' enough that I received 'holiday' pay for MLK day.

When you set out to liberate a country, you work swiftly to diminish the seeds of conflict and improve the lives of the iterated.
When you set out to conquer a country, you isolate the people, so they cannot plan resistance and impocerish the people so they cannot fund resistance.
Which one of those fits what the democrats are doing?

You would have to be a special brand of STUPID to think that Democrats have any interest in the people they purport to help and understand Dems care about power and nothing else.

The various companies who have low wage workers are already doing what they can to automate. Checkout clerks are harder and harder to find, more of those damned automatic checkout at all stores. This insane move will accelerate automation, destroying many millions of jobs.

Raise the wage up to $15.00 per hour, great! Unfortunately that is not the only thing that goes up for employers. Everyone is forgetting the "hidden" employment expenses that employees never see that are tied to employee wages like State Unemployment taxes, Worker Compensation premiums, the employer portion of Social Security and Medicare (FICA), Federal Unemployment Taxes, some local payroll taxes (some communities), and some other kinds of insurance premiums. Of course nobody thinks about this because it does not affect their pocket directly, but it will in the long run. Your $3.00 per hour raise might cost your employer $6.00 per hour. Where does all of that money come from? If you are a company who get reimbursed based on a contracted rate, you are screwed because you can't raise your rates per your contracts. Everyone loses!

You'll never get it.

Small business isn't always killed by an increase in wages for their employees. However, I know of several businesses that were killed because they needed to comply with government regulations that had nothing to do with their business. I also know businesses who failed because of failed business practices. At some point, the minimum wage needed to be raised simply because of the cost of living. On my first job, I was paid $1.15 an hour. The minimum wage back then was $2.50 per hour. I saved my money and bought my first car for $600, and gas could be had at less than $.29 a gallon. Neither wage paid enough to live on, but that wasn't the point. Nobody expected anyone to live on that wage. It was my first job and a learning experience. Now the cost of living is so much higher, so the minimum should be too. The mindset now is that someone should be able to live on the minimum wage, and that's just stupid.
