Jaw-dropping contempt for Trump and
his voters from National Review star
columnist Kevin Williamson

It is sad, but perhaps inevitable that contemptuous, raw class hatred for Trump voters would be featured so prominently in the National Review almost immediately after the swearing-in of Joe Biden yesterday. National Review, after all, produced the infamous “Against Trump” issue in January 2016, assembling conservatives from many publications in an effort to derail the nomination of the man who became our 45th president. The chief complaints about Trump centered on style… and class. But graciousness in victory apparently is not an element of civility that appeals to Kevin Williamson, a talented wordsmith and star at what was once the flagship publication of the conservative movement.

NRO used to be an amusing pleasure to scroll through. Now it's nothing but smug arrogance, led by the likes of Williamson, Kyle Smith, and the formerly enlightening Ramesh Ponnuru. I won't pretend to speak for the great WFB Jr., but I feel certain that he would not have stood for this overt shaming and mockery of fellow conservatives for selfish, virtue signaling's sake.

This information about Williamson is not news - he has been this way since Trump came down the escalator.

Just a thought here. Do they really think they won't be targeted by the cancel culture? They won't be the first but you can be sure they are in line for attacks by the oh so enlightened and inclusive liberals.

Williamson's Cletus-contempt in his if-you-disagree-with-me-then-you're-dumb writing style has long been an obvious self-loathing attempt to distance himself from the Amarillo trailer park that spawned him.

Subscribed to the NR for many years. Actually took over my parents subscription after they died and continued it for years. When they came out with the Against Trump issue I let the subscription lapse and have never read another issue.

I haven't read an article from the National Review for 4 years. I used to be a print edition subscriber.. 40 years ago.

His hatred only shows what Williamson thinks of himself. He must have been abandoned as a child!

Kevin’s been doing this for a long time. That’s why most of us don’t post his screeds or anything about him. He is a tiresome, sour one-note crank. Go to DC, Kevin - you can probably kiss The Fool’s ring.

Duh. I am telling you -- they hate us.
They may be mildly less socialist than the Democrats, but they are no less elite autocrats. Our betters.
A pox on them.

Sounds like NR is anxious to follow Weekly Standard into the dustbin. Rich Lowry must want to join Bill Kristol on the unemployment line.

Up until 2000, when their guy McCain lost out to Bush the younger for the nomination, they were readable. But now their envy, jealousy and pettiness at being dumped (by us) as the source material for all that is republican, they just cannot help the hatred of their fellow Americans. The fanny hurt they feel must be excruciating, and I seriously doubt they will be invited back into the Uniparty fold either.
Because once you turn on your own side, what is to stop you from turning on the other side as well? Their days as a tool for the Left are over. Very disappointing to see the names of those who chase worldly acceptance rather than stand for decency, honesty and a man who was the best president this nation ever had. Enjoy your irrelevance and political oblivion because boy did you ever earn it in spades.

Ah, who gives a flip? Can we talk about things and people that matter? We need a way forward, and focusing on traitors after they've outed themselves is a waste of time. I need something that takes me next level; I'm not trying to sit around waiting for them to come and get US. If they're coming for me, I want to give them something to come for. I prefer that it be for my faith, but the my faith in intertwined in all I do. Even my righteous indignation.

Perhaps I’m a masochist but I read both Williamson’s columns highlighted in this article. In both not only did he viciously attack President Trump but also his wife and children, even stooping to denigrate Melania’s looks. Lifson ponders how William Buckley would regard Williamson’s hateful screed. I don’t need to ponder at all how the founder of the National Review would react. He would be appalled and would eject Williamson from the magazine.

Kevin does this because there are never any consequences for him. No one gets in his face, no one attacks him in a way that would scare him, like being fired or banned from employment for his bile. In fact, the more outrageous he is, the more money he makes. I miss the old days when the least he could expect was a black eye when he went into the wrong bar.

I assume that no one at NR has called him out for his attack on the Trump family and voters. So I'll also assume that they are just as vile as Williamson is.

What's going to be really pathetic is when the eunuchs at NR go back to tut-tutting, tsk-tsking and well-I-nevering over the destructive policies of the Biden soon-to-be Harris Administration that they did their best to bring about.

At least I'll be in the reeducation camp while everything has a fresh coat of paint and the latrines don't need to be dug out. Oh don't worry Kevin you'll not be deprived of your turn, at best you might just delay things. I suggest bringing a shovel.

Williamson still believes that is was Trump voters who stormed the Capitol. Even the left now say that Trump supporters were not the rioters who broke into the building, having organized the assault on social media days before the 6th. Hope he's happy with dumb Biden and the Obama socialists/marxists.

I wonder if he is intellectually capable of hearing himself railing so inarticulately, crudely, irrationally? As is often the case, that which he lashes out against with so much hatred, are those same traits he's exhibiting while spewing his venomous spittle.

I stopped my subscription to NR long ago, and have in the last 6 or 8 years stopped bothering with any NR articles online.
It is interesting to learn that this Williamson fool came from Atlantic, a reliably leftist source. Apparently hired to destroy NR and end it as a source of conservative thought.
Mission accomplished. Bill Buckley spinning in his grave.
