Setting the Record Straight on the POTUS “Ask”

Original Article

Posted By: earlybird, 1/19/2021 7:55:03 PM

In his letter of the morning of January 6, Vice President Mike Pence asserted that “[s]ome believe that as Vice President, [he] should be able to accept or reject votes unilaterally.” .(Snip With all due respect to the vice president, that is not what the president asked (Snip) the vice president was not being asked to decide the matter himself, but to pause the proceedings long enough to give the couple of states whose legislators had asked for more time to assess whether the illegal conduct by their state election officials (Snip)was sufficient to warrant revoking the existing certification and submitting a new one

Comments:

Subheadline: "Vice President Pence was not asked to reject electoral votes.”

Pence was asked to return any certifications that were in question to the respective states so that the states could take appropriate action. There was a precedent set in 1960 when Hawaii’s certification was sent back and a revised one submitted that accurately reflected the vote.

Words are very important. Some don’t understand them (Pence). Some twist them. (The media and the Swampers). The outcome is affected by both.

I think Pence's refusal to return those electors was, more than anything, the straw that broke the camel's back for protestors in DC that day.

Re #5, that was used colloquially because the line has been “the president asked Pence ….” and most of the media and the other side said “to reject the votes”. That’s why it’s in quotation marks. I imagine that Eastman has a very, very large vocabulary.

#6, "request" is still absolutely correct grammar, and the folks in the media do this all the time. I call it "nouning" verbs. Lazily, or ignorantly ditching grammar is just another coarsening of out once great country. The Beverley Hillbillies did it as humor, it has ceased being funny.

Those who get past the headline will find this to be a very important article. Eastman is a noted Constitutional lawyer/professor who was fired from Chapman University for standing with President Trump at his January 6 speech on the Ellipse. I believe I read that Eastman will be one of the lawyers defending Trump if there is actually an impeachment trial in the Senate. I wonder how many heard or remember what President Trump actually said: We’re supposed to protect our country, support our country, support our constitution, and protect our constitution. States want to revote. The States got defrauded. They were given false information. They voted on it. Now they want to recertify. They want it back. All Vice-President Pence has to do is send it back to the States to recertify, and we become president, and you are the happiest people (Emphasis added). That’s it.

A foreign ministry spokesperson accused them of “seriously violated China’s sovereignty,” adding that they were “responsible” for “a series of crazy moves” which “seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations.”
