New York Times op-ed columnist David Brooks ignited a wave of backlash after insulting rural Americans who have no contact with the “expert class.”The political commentator’s pompous contention, during an appearance on MSNBC, that the right feeds on conspiracy theories and have been “left behind” while those in blue cities are “thriving,” sparked much head-scratching and criticism on social media.A video clip of Brooks speaking to MSNBC’s Katy Tur last week was posted on Twitter by Rashad Robinson, president of the progressive racial justice organization, Color of Change. While Robinson’s views may not typically align with those of Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump, his reaction to Brooks’ comments

I live in a city. I don’t support the blue check elitist state of mind. How about that Brooks?

My grandfather was from a rural background, did not progress beyond junior high but still made sure all of his kids went to college. He left this world being missed by many and not owing a dime to anyone. He knew thrift and restraint, which are skills that the "expert class" members never seem to master. I'm glad I am the descendant of rural hicks who shunned debt and saved up to pay cash for most purchases, including cars. I learned to budget and live within my means from people like my grandfather.

Brooks is a very ignorant man. Nobody watches or listens to him. I have no idea how he has a job. Who would hire this guy?

We don't need, nor wish "contact" with the expert class. They run their cites and states so, so well. Their highly advanced residents are in the news every day rioting, plundering and murdering. s/o

We ARE the expert class. David Brooks is an arrogant pompous ass who lives in the fantasy world of NYT, NPR and the oxygen-starved atmosphere inside the beltway. His greatest pleasure is hearing himself speak.

Apparently one of the special talents of the "expert class" is to be able to judge a candidate by the crease in his pants. I wonder if this sissified clown can even change a flat tire or unclog a toilet?

If dave took a taxi and the taxi driver got a flat in the middle of the night on a back road and then collapsed from a heart attack. dave would realize he would have to change that tire before he froze to death. dave would be dead within the hour. The ONLY reason an absolute windbag moron like Brooks made a pile of money in this life is because our media is evil and populated with scum like David Brooks.

The "Expert Class" huh? Kinda like "the party of science", a millstone around the neck of our self-styled betters, an impossible standard they are incapable of living up to. Sad effin clowns.

I have been kind of thinking that my Google must be completely different
from the Google they get in the big cities.
Those people have some peculiar ideas of what normal is like.
I might be tempted to think mine is better,
but that might make me a provincial rube,
like the Coastals...

Ah yes, the “expert class”. The people who handed the keys to the country to China, who made us dependent on OPEC leading to multiple Middle East wars, who initiate and perpetuate the war on poverty which has destroyed black families and created a permanent government-dependent underclass, who ignore the science of chromosomes and sex, who took over education and teach our children to hate our country and our culture and that free market capitalism, the most successful economic system in the history of mankind is somehow evil, while denigrating our religions (except Islam), who undermine Israel and perpetuated the Palestinian stalemate for decades. And they now seek to eliminate our freedoms by creating hysteria over the flu! That expert class? No wonder they hate Trump, he blew up their “expertise” in 3-1/2 years. But they are experts at stealing elections, and once back in control they will never peacefully relinquish it. I hope at some point the expert class will be afraid of contact with us mere normals, and for good reason.

Freaking morons. Some of us in rural areas ARE experts, and a hell of a lot more expert than most of the dumb arsed city folks that I have met. Many of them are so ignorant and lame that they have no idea how to do even the basic things in life, build a fire, kill, prepare and cook a meal in the wild, find or make shelter, repair anything, find their way without a GPS or road signs, and a million other things.
City folks are, by and large. helpless "systems people" who only live because rural people ship them food, power and more, and build and repair the machines that they can barely operate but require to live.
Sad, narrow, low skills fools.

What he means is experts in the "correct fields who hold the correct political beliefs"
I'm considered an expert in my field. But I don't hold the correct beliefs or work behind a desk.

The reason that certain groups are susceptible to conspiracy theories is because people like David Brooks have been lying to them about what is going on for so long that the conspiracy theories sound reasonable. There are things which I by knee-jerk reaction tend to reject as "conspiracy theory" which have begun to sound plausible because of the way in which Big Tech and Big Media distort the information to which I have access.

Can you fix your plumbing? How about installing a new light fixture? Can you even paint your own room? I doubt if Mr. Brooks can even cook a simple meal for himself.
What is it about living in a big city that develops such a mindset? My niece grew up in a medium sized town in Kentucky and now lives in New York. She is always preaching that her area is where the money is, and we small town people are just rubes who don't understand. What she doesn't understand is that we grow all the food. I am so sick of being condescended to by people like Brooks.

Brooks is either stupid or demented. The cities are emptying out of their tax payers. Moving companies in NYC and many other cities have a 2 year wait period. What is left behind is the government dependent parts of the cities ie. the poor on welfare. These socialist utopias are collapsing. The elites will be surrounded by them very soon demanding food and housing. I suggest he buys a nice pair of running shoes.

SO relieved to hear that Democrats (and the "expert class") are not susceptible to collusion theories. I was worried that they really believed in Russian collusion, Ukranian quid pro quo, golden showers by Russian prostitutes, presidential advice to drink Clorox to fight COVID, etc. Not being a member of academia or the media, I was, of course, confused that they were sincere in their ridiculous beliefs.

Expert Class? You mean all our 'learned' experts at Universities?
When I got back from Viet Nam I went back to college...first thing I noticed was while I was fighting Communists they had taken over our Universities. I decided right then and there NOT to finish college because I could NOT STAND being lectured by these 'Experts'...at what I never knew.
Now they have taken over almost all important parts of our Country and as far as I'm concerned it's time for the good old Leftist Purge. Everything they do is either illegal or bad for America and we should not stand for any of it! I see a bloody revolution in the making as they take over more and more of our country. Who will stand with me to fight for this Country and rid our society of these Slime?

The expert class has been on full display over the last ten months. As of right now, we rural Americans have been told not to wear masks, then wear masks. we were told it would take two weeks to flatten the curve, we were told lockdowns work, we were told to stay six feet apart, we've been told certain medications don't work, in short, we've been told a lot of BS, and the only thing we've learned is that the expert class haven't been right about anything.

I'm in my seventies and it wasn't until about somewhere around 2008 that I found out I had 'betters' to rule over me. Now this bozo clown David Brooks informs me that because of my living location in flyover land I have to let an 'expert class' make decisions that I should steer clear of. David Brooks doesn't know me or my educational background but I would like a list of that 'expert class'. It would give me great comfort to meet my 'betters' so I can die in peace knowing them. Color of Change that's about all I need to know.
