The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced that its in-person dinner for new Democratic members of Congress has been canceled after a viral tweet showing the tables being set up for the event sparked backlash amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Pelosi deputy chief of staff Drew Hammill initially doubled down on how "safe" the event was supposed to be, tweeting, "Our office strictly follows the guidance of the Office of Attending Physician, including for this dinner. To be a further model for the nation, this event has been modified to allow Members-elect to pick up their meals to go in a socially-distanced manner."

Just look at that gilded place. We pay for that. And even though average Americans pay for it, we are only entitled to see the inside of the Capitol building and the mobsters it houses on tours along with tourists from any other country. At the same time, members use these opulent surroundings to fete each other and potential donors. It’s a closed exclusive club that we underwrite for people, many of whom are mobsters who hate our guts and it is wrong. Flattery and threats in combination with perqs becoming a place like the Capital building are very effective in keeping members in line. I’m very curious as to what the boxed lunches consist of. How do you pack the promise of that room in a picnic basket?

It's time we force our betters to do freakin more with freakin less. We need to invade their spaces and force on them our views of how they should live their lives at work and at home. Let them see how it feels to be US under their tyranny. As citizens, we need to demand that they cut their office budgets and their salaries by 90% (yes, 90%, I'm not joking), stay their behinds in their states, vote and pontificate virtually, come to Washington once a year, etc. No need to worry about vote fraud; the goal is that they do less voting and stay out of our business and our pockets. Let's do something besides vote in mass for these people. Let them be appointed to serve one term and then go back to regular life. They'll become citizen politicians with no chance to amass wealth and gain power. Nancy won't need her own private airplane, and they can conference with their constituents, not donors, from the comfort of their homes w/ their darn masks on or whatever.

Pelosi was set up again! First the hair salon, and now the caterer. This poor woman can't catch a break!

Once again Pelosi forgot.... be careful what you pray for.... it might come true....so lock down limitations for the masses are not applying to the Washington swamp creatures.... could it be because the restrictions are political... not necessary... let's see you fight your way out of this one... nervous Nancy....

Wonder if they got a goodie bag like they do at the Oscars? Maybe a gift certificate for a wash and blow dry in San Francisco and a freezer full of expensive chocolate ice cream?

Another indication that this entire pandemic is a blatant lie. Funny how the Dems can ignore the rules that they insist everyone else live by

Item One in Rules For You But Not For Us:
Congress exempted itself from Obamacare when it passed without a single Republican vote, but everybody else in the country had to eat and like it! The Dems are not anywhere as egalitarian they claim to be. Same with the COVID politicrap.

I will respectfully disagree with #6
This is the United States Capitol and the "opulence" is nothing new. not the product of Democrat (or Republican) profligacy. The Capitol was once open for people to free-range through, with minor restrictions, but times have changed, haven't they? We recently spent big money on preservation and maintenance, as well as a Visitors Center that provides secure entry. Perhaps we could have saved all that...watching further structural damage to the dome and exterior, upkeep "deferred", and unfettered access to the building itself. Sad what the times have brought...yet here we are. Upkeep of that Capitol, the White House, and our national buildings and monuments are, IMHO, one of the few government expenditures I support.

I heard the dinner was for a lot fewer new members than originally planned, I suspect they didn't want to show how many empty tables there were.

the irony .The building is the Museum of Buildings , built in 1880 as the PENSION building for vets of the civil War .Montgomery Meigs , Quartermaster of The Union Army designed , constructed it , a man of impeccable honor & considered by many as a strong reason the North won ..

Exactly how loud do we have to be to make them listen? The entire Leftist agenda has been rejected by a majority of Americans, yet they carry on.

This is just a BRIEF glimpse behind the curtain. Governor Cuomo has announced that when the vaccine is available he will delay its availability in New York state and not allow anyone to receive it until after New York runs its own tests on it, something no state is set up to do since the FDA has sole jurisdiction in that area. HOWEVER, I'll bet you a donut that the governor doesn't wait and is put at the head of the line as soon as FDA approves the first vaccine. Vaccines for me but not for thee. And if you ask him about it he will lie about it.

Sounds like Her Nastiness, has done a fast re-calculation, and realized that there were not enough 'newbies' on board top do a full blown Banquet Hall Deal.... She's going to take her 'new crew' to the closest Mickey 'D' s, and as a treat they'll get to keep the prizes in their Happy Meals!
