On June 15, 2019, exactly one month after her 72nd birthday, my active, healthy mother-in-law died of a sudden heart attack.
(Snip)
we lost the heart and the glue of our family. Our traditions, especially the annual Thanksgiving gathering which became more precious as everyone got older, abruptly and cruelly ended without warning. (Snip)
Which is why there’s only one response to anyone suggesting families shouldn’t celebrate Thanksgiving together this year because of COVID-19: Go to hell.
“Encourage guests to avoid singing or shouting, especially indoors.(Snip)
That is not a passage from some dystopian novel or a command by a Marxist dictator (Snip) It’s guidance posted on the Centers for Disease Control

I'd love to, but my sister's house is where the family has gathered for the last few years and she has nixed it, scared witless about this Wuhan stuff.
We'll have Thanksgiving at home, then visit relatives in Fla right after.

My family, thank God, is predisposed to give a double middle finger salute to the cranks who would keep us apart this Thanksgiving. We are all going to eat (after going to Mass first) and then we will go outside and play ball, fish, fly kites and have all fun in a way that is guaranteed to make Lori Lightfoot, Andrew Cuomo, and Gavin Newsome upset.

The left want the old people to die alone, no visits from family for years. No. I don't think so. Anyone can get the flu, so wash your hands, keep your hands out of your eyes, mouth, and nose. And if you have the flu, stay home. Otherwise, go see granny and the rest of the family.

It's not my idea to not gather with family for Thanksgiving, it's the other relatives that are afraid to gather. No matter what I say, it's like talking to the wall.

I don't know about you, but when church opened up with social distancing ,wearing masks, and of course, no singing, the elderly folks seemed so lost. Their light was almost out.
But I have had enough of this shutdown, I would ask if they needed a hug and everyone would say "Yes." Their faces would light up and they would grab me tight. I feel that human touch is more important and if the Good Lord calls us Home, so much the better.
To be separated from family and friends at Thanksgiving: Not going to happen. We need human contact more than ever, esp. with everything happening in our world today. We are not to live in fear, but to enjoy each day we are blessed with.

We're bagging a family T-Giving dinner this time, because one of the people that will be there has Stage 4 TDS and I don't think I'd be able to hold it together.

Everybody in the (Cajun) family is concerned about my mother in law age 95. She has said that by next July she could be gone and would be surely pizzed off if she missed thanksgiving at her place this year. Only stipulation is that she doesn't have to do the cooking or cleaning. I got the turkey.

We’re gathering with family and friends. None of us will be wearing masks. We will hug and kiss each other. We will laugh ourselves silly and we will enjoy a wonderful meal. We will thank God for his blessings and there will not be one iota of fear in anything we do.
Where I happen to live, there are no restrictions on our holidays and everything is open and has been for months.

I had to (Snip) out a bittersweet story of Kelly and her late mother-in-law/best friend, who had asked Kelly to give her eulogy. Read the article. The rest is about the draconian Rules For Thanksgiving 2020.
