I came to Minneapolis in 1972, lived in the western burbs until I married in 1991, and bought a house in a small but growing suburb northwest of town. We have been very happy here. We like the place and the people. It was our intent to spend the rest of our days here. (snip) Then, in May, a guy took a fatal overdose of multiple drugs, tried to pass a counterfeit 20, and died in the custody of the arresting officers. Opportunity had knocked. (snip) In reaction, the "mostly peaceful" rioters burned down a swath through Minneapolis that is five miles long

Truth is you just don’t want to live anywhere near dimocrats. Sadly, they are like a cancer that metastasizes. Just try to find a place where they are vastly outnumbered, and you’ll be better off. Annoyingly, dims know this so they are taking over the federal government to keep you from voting with your feet.

A brief note to Powlas -
Mr. Powlas, as you can see, elections have consequences. While it is sad you have concluded a move to a safer place is necessary, it was avoidable. Your schtick of sitting back and letting these consequences force you into moving speaks volumes. You and your fellow citizenry sat back and complained and complained to yourselves how the city was falling apart and did absolutely nothing in the past few decades to get involved in your political system and weed out the socialist decay and the actors causing it. Why? Because you drank the msm's cool aid that there is nothing you can do and the violence was "a sign of healthy change". You didn't stand up for yourselves. Nevertheless, very best of luck in your new state - Texas?

some little while ago we moved to a small red town in a nearly totally red state. never been happier; I truly believe we've been "led" here. we thought we had our lives pretty well mapped out but GOD had different plans for us.
Not much happens around here, the local radio station broadcasts obits twice a day, the churches advertise on that same station and they all have a 2 page spread in the Friday newspaper. high school football is still relatively important. And most everyone believes personal protection is a right, not a privilege.
During the summer we had a "demonstration". about 20 people marching around the courthouse waving signs. okay - that's fine. little bit of congestion downtown and then everyone went home. It's not Mayberry but it's home. We're not "locals" yet, but we're working on it. And that's the way we like it.

I am not so quick to condemn those who "do nothing". What do you do? Do you blindly follow some internet tough guy who says to take up arms and revolt? Do you put out yard signs and then keep getting your car fixed or watch your house burn and maybe your family die? For what? Do you wear your maga hat in enemy territory' knowing full well that you are likely to be beaten in malls and restaurants?
Like so many others, I offered up my life in defense of (what I thought was) liberty. This is different. Then I had a million guys backing me up. Now all these armchair commandos would leave me to twist in the wind while they rattle their rubber sabers in front of someone else. Find me someone who is able to lead and willing to back me up, then we'll talk. Until then whatever actions I may take will be personal and unpublicized.

Well if Biden does end up making it through this fraudulent election, and into the White House, he had better send his bagman son over to China to “collude” with the Communist Mandarins, and find out when they expect to import their next contagious virus, probable named COVID-20, into the USA and the Western world, so that Biden and the liberal media can be ready to respond, and of course cast more false blame on the Trump legacy.

We left Maryland as the COVIDS panic was spreading. You think Minnesota has it bad...Maryland has Dempublican Larry Hogan for governor, is solidly blue and soon heading to minority-majority status and all the joy that brings. Now would be a perfect time to hand the remnants of DC back to MD as a token of "social justice".

We left a blue state over ten years ago. The best move we ever made. Lower taxes, better schools, friendlier people, 2nd amendment friendly, what else could you ask for. I go back to visit but it's not the same. With all this lock down crap the economy will tank. Basement Joe will destroy this once great country. I won't be around for a lot longer, however, I weep for my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as they are the ones that will suffer the most.

Read the headline before reading any part of the article, and my first question was which city. The headline is applicable to so many places. Not just Minneapolis. When a town becomes unsafe, people leave. Saw it all the way back in the 80s. Violence and crime destroys cities. The 'leadership' of Minneapolis knows this, but has abdicated their responsibilities. This is what dishonest incompetent leadership looks like folks.

I live in Minneapolis and was quite happy here until the defund the police movement started. My neighbors were thrilled (at first) with the idea of the movement. Then crime exploded. Literally people were being carjacked, robbed walking down the street, and gunfire coming in your front window. People were told not to fight back - but they are - with rakes and metal baseball bats etc. Suddenly they hate the movement. Lisa Bender the president of the city commission announced she will not run for reelection. My neighbors cheered! Ilhan Omar was elected in 2018 with 79% now was reelected with 64% (with fraud build into that I would not be surprised if she actually lost). Things are happening. People are waking up to reality. Almost all urban areas are Democrat controlled. Personally, I do not believe this election went exactly the way the left had envisioned.

#13 I know the feeling.
As a native Marylander I love the State and I will stay here, but my State is a one party state as far as it's Governance.
Hogan is indeed a Republicrat, and a never-Trumper, he got elected because we were being taxed to death by M.O.M. and Hogan promised to not raise taxes.
So far he has kept taxes down and run the government with the taxes we now have.
But in every other way he is your typical Democrat

Not only are people leaving Minnesota they are streaming out of New York state and moving companies have over a year wait list. What we see in Florida is an influx of northeasterners that left the high taxes, that of course pay their lucrative state and muni pensions, and rampant crime, then criticize the conservative voters in the state for not creating more regulations (letting government decide how to live our lives). If those with incomes leave when happens to home equity for those that leave too late?

A brief note to #6 Dodge Boy:
What exactly do you think Mr. Powlas should've done? Or for that matter, what should most conservative-minded people do to prevent decay w\n their communities or states? I mean beyond the obvious as electing like-minded representatives, being involved w/ local school boards and churches, attending community meetings, paying taxes to support the public school systems, respecting differing points of view, living a responsible life, and joining military.
I did all that and the world I grew up in changed anyway. Not just my city but the whole damn state. My home state is California and I'm getting ready to leave. It's not my fault California changed, it's much deeper than that. I'm exhausted and I just want to live my sunset years in peace. I spent the last 12 months defending myself successfully in court bc the state arrested me for possessing an AR-15, a gun that is legal in nearly all other states. The worm has turned in this state and there was nothing I could have done to stop it other than what the constitution allows.

Sounds good but just where does one move to get away from the 'rat party? If they succeed in overthrowing our government and install Biden, it is only a matter of time before aliens descend on us by the millions, all looking for free medical, food, housing and education. The 'rats will install them in all the 'red' states to turn them blue. What we should be talking about, just in case, is succession.

Ultimately, the school system is teaching children that America was a terrible place, and that Communism is the good and proper thing. And as they grow up and still believe all that, the country will go down the tubes and the Communists/Socialists/Globalists will have won and will have destroyed the greatest country that has ever existed in the history of mankind.
I see no way to change that path at this point. My nieces are educating their children outside of government schools (both married to military career men) are solid Christians and American patriots. So, a few children are spared the indoctrination, but how many? What percentage? If only 5 or 15% or even 30% of children growing up know the truth about America, what difference will that make? They'll be shouted down, blocked from speaking, and if they persist in expressing their views - will probably lose their jobs.
If 70%+ of the children are being indoctrinated to hate the USA, and it appears that they are, we are done if we cannot stop THAT ONE THING. Ultimately, if we cannot stop the indoctrination of out children to hate America, nothing else will matter at all.

My husband and I were both born and raised in California. We recently moved out of the state to a small town and have heard the same nonsense from so many: accusing us of bringing our 'California politics' with us and blaming us for what's happened to the Golden State. It's easy to say such things when you have no idea how many years we had a small business, participated in our community organizations, were an active part of our local school system, and raised four independent thinkers to adulthood, all of them having been either active duty military or supportive of a spouse who was. Of our 15 grandchildren, currently six are active duty. We are committed conservatives. We are not sheep. But we are done wasting precious time doing the bidding of those who are in control of a state where our Constitution is no longer the standard for life, law and liberty.

Moved here from Iowa in 86 to sell financial products to bank and savings and loan Presidents! It was so great being here! Music scene, Theatre, Arts, Museums along with a 10,000 acre lake 15 miles west of Minneapolis that is one of the best bass and musky lakes in the nation! We are now 66 years old and are seriously looking at South Dakota! We love the forests and lakes of Northern Minnesota, but we would still be governed by Soy Boy Waltz and Keith Ellison as our AG? Nope! My wife is still working at a job she loves, but she is remote 100% so I think we could move to my favorite Governor’s state! Hopefully California and Minneapolis liberals will stay out!

Fine. Move. We'd like you here in Texas.
As long as you leave the crazy ideas that caused you to leave at the state line (that is, the state you left. Don't ruin our friends in Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Louisiana by dumping them at the state line. New Mexico, well, that could be a lost cause).
We do need a border wall in Texas. Across our northern, eastern, and western borders.

Number 6, with all due respect, you don’t know what you are talking about. As others on here have stated better than me, you can be involved in your community and politically - here in California it didn’t make any difference. Now it can be physically dangerous to come out as conservative and as an older widow I choose my battles carefully. I am leaving my beloved state because it no longer is “safe.”
One thing to mention that I think is significant is the number of younger people - I’m talking 30 and 40 year olds - who are picking up and leaving California in droves. Once Ben Shapiro broadcast his family’s and company’s move to Tennessee and eloquently gave his reasons why it was as though permission was given to younger families to leave the state. I am surprised at the number of my children’s friends who have either just moved or are moving. All native Californians. Almost all are conservative. All well educated, smart, capable .... Cali is losing not just tax income but the future with their stupid “woke” policies.

I'm a native Californian and staying. The Golden State is my birthright. Her assets have been mismanaged, but they still exist and one day will be the foundation for making California Great Again. When we lived the Rodney King riots and Los Angeles descending into chaos, we knew staying in the city would not make for a secure retirement. We considered moving to other states back in 1993. Neither of us liked the desert so Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico were out. Oregon and Washington offered the same demonic government, and we were not interested in the winters of Wyoming, Montana or Idaho. We took a recon trip just to see what undeveloped land cost and determine how much we would have to save. God led us to our 40 acres of heaven and a developer only asking for 10% down and carrying the paper privately.
It took us six years before we paid off the land and we could leave the city, moving to the homestead in 1999. We lived in our 12x16 camping cabin for nine months while building our infrastructure and house. We got local jobs for the first seven years, but have both been retired since 2007. For twenty years we have invested in improvements, both with cash and sweat equity. We have a year-long creek, a rarity in California, as well as timberland and open pastures. Our 40 acres are nestled in a small valley and all our property is easily walked, another rarity in our coastal range mountains. This is our home. Our dream. We will do whatever it takes to defend our home and our state as we would our country.
Should the commie fraud prevail and Biden is installed as el presidente, which I highly doubt, it will not matter in what state you reside. I trust God, and I trust His champion President Donald J. Trump will prevail and the Democrats will be crushed nationwide. The Swamp and all its state subsidiaries will be drained, dried out and redeveloped during the Great American Restoration.
MAGA - Its for all 50 states or it ain't worth a damn.

For me, this gave away their location;
"We are moving out of the state to a town so small that you have probably never heard of it. We are moving to a state where the governor respects the Constitution and the Bill of Rights within it."
South Dakota's the only state with no mask, no lock downs and no localities enforcing cough burkas nor closing schools because one student tested positive. All other states, even really red ones like Oklahoma, have caved and surrendered in many ways to the enemy that does not exist. My best guess would be in a small town like White between Brookings and Watertown. If they wanted trees, then somewhere in or near the Black Hills like Custer, but man, that's expensive now. Lake Oahe, near Pierre, is probably deep enough for their sailboat.
Look, we get that conservatives who escape from blue 'burbs aren't going to bring Marxism to the next state so throttle back on the "we're offended, we had a business, etc" stuff. However, the Marxist Californians who moved to the DFW area and Austin area in Texas ARE turning the state blue because they ARE too stupid to know that their companies moved FROM Taxifornia to Texas to get away from the policies for which their own employees voted. That population is the greatest majority of people who leave blue 'burbs and blue metro's and bring their Marxism to red states, because sadly, they're just too damn stupid. I watched it happen in Dallas for seven years before moving to a very rural location in a much redder state. Californians have destroyed Dallas.
TQ, I pray you and TK are correct and our state of birth de-communists itself.

Lived in the Minneapolis area in the mid 1990s. Was always amused at how the local Libs wanted to be even more liberal, mainly because of white guilt. They believed they could implement Progressive ideas and not have consequences. Welcome to the party pal! You now get to see what happens when you put people in office who believe that you'll cough up whatever they want to spend, and that you'll keep letting them put policies in place that help cure your whiteness.
