An LSU fan says he was brutally beaten and robbed inside a bathroom after a game at Tiger Stadium over the weekend. Daniel Dwyer, a longtime LSU fan, told The Advocate he lingered inside the stadium Saturday after LSU’s 52-24 rout over South Carolina to hear the university’s marching band play, as he typically does. “Normally, there’s 80,000 to 100,000 people at an LSU game,” Dwyer told the newspaper.(Snip) But Dwyer’s typical postgame routine took a turn when he stopped inside a stadium bathroom while headed to his car, he recalled. “There were three or four men and a young man

It's entirely possible that I might accidentally walk out my front door without a gun under my belt or in my pocket. But that would be an accident.
Ultimately, I'm responsible for my own safety. How do I know that? My next door neighbor until 2019, a Florida Highway Patrolman--he didn't call himself a State Trooper--convinced me that in the crunch no police would be there at the critical instant; therefore, I should be prepared to defend myself against any attacker instantly, if necessary. That's good advice from a professional. I intend to adhere to it. And I just ordered more ammo (5.56 NATO, 55 gr Lake City), thanks to another helpful LDotter who directed me to a good website.
But after looking at ammo prices, I think I need an AK-47 also. The 7.62x39mm ammo is quite a bit cheaper than M-193 (5.56 NATO, 55gr). It might make sense to have both platforms available for self defense and for fun on the range. An acquaintance who shoots a lot once said he had between 9 and 11 AKs, not that he would say how many he actually had. I think I need to get one, if only because it p.o.'s the two digit IQ hoplophobe Beto.

Definitely #4, for shear penetration and stopping power the 7.62x39 is a great round. Bad guy hiding behind a tree or wall, no problemo. Vehicle coming at you, no problem to disable the engine and eliminate the driver. Having both available is a wise move. Just make sure to get ammo with non corrosive primers, or failing that, clean it immediately after range time. Water or windex poured down bore and chamber will tied u over til a more thorough cleaning can be done. Advice from a former Russian Marine buddy of mine.

AKs are generally reliable, but have a very short sight radius, the must unergonomic safety ever, and mediocre or worse accuracy. The cartridge is medium power, much less than the .308, about .30-30 vel with a lighter bullet.
I have a couple. They'd never be a first choice unless ammo was only available for them. Also optic mounting is very problematic, and triggers uniformly poor.
Jeff Cooper called "the People's bullet hose", perhaps the most concise and accurate description ever. Workable and generally reliable, common as dirt all over the world, but no prize.

What about an Israeli Galil, #8? It's the AK, perfected (if that's possible). I have no intention of buying used Soviet-Chinese junk.

That is all well and good. I own a few guns and a concealed carry license, but there is no way to take any into a stadium with fans. The only solution is to fill the place up like the past years. Who said corona virus precautions such as safe distancing don’t any harmful consequences?

Re #10: One of the areas where permit holders cannot carry legal firearms--and we knew this when we learned from a thick book of Florida firearms laws written by an attorney before we took our tests, gave our fingerprints, and had our police records, if any, checked out thoroughly by the government--is at any professional sporting event with a cash gate. You can't carry your firearm into NHL, MLB, or NFL (or NBA in Orlando or Miami) events in this state. There is one type of paid "sporting" event where Florida licensees can carry, and that's at a gun show. Woo hoo.

#8, the Galil was never in 7.62x39. 5.56 in service, 7.62 NATO for export. Under 10K imported into US, very expensiv and a bit hard to find. Extremely good, solves the sights, safety, and other issues of AK, basically a total detail redesign keeping general characteristics. There is a side mount for optics, I have never seen one used. Century rebuilt a batch into Golani sporters, many work fine, some do not, typical Century QC. Good ones are good, some aren't. Golanis can be found on gunbroker for about a grand these days. Despite the risk of a lemon, this may be a good AK variant available to us currently. If Century could get their QC stuff together it would be nice. Oh, original Galils are super heavy, too, like 10 lbs.
The best solution is probably the current production IWI Galil Ace, a modernized version of the Galil which takes AR pattern mags in 5.56. Modern optics ready, lighter, readily available mags.
There is a 7.62x39 version, I think it uses AK mags, not certain. Never actually handled or shot one of these new gen Galils. They do exist, are not cheap. But are new, have IWI standing behind them.
The very best AK was the Finnish Valmet, again relatively few imported, rare and expensive now..in original cartridge. Thise are several grand. At that price...personally I'd get two new ARs. But, this was the gold standard for AKs in the 80s.
