William Voegeli of the Claremont Review of Books brought up a strange Joe Biden interview from 1974 I hadn’t seen before in which Biden emerges as arrogant and determined to make more money, one way or another. Biden also speaks of his first wife Neilia, who had died two years earlier, in unusually frank ways: His Senate office was then something of a shrine to her, decorated with dozens of pictures including a large one of her tombstone, and he spoke about her for three hours.
“Let me show you my favorite picture of her,” he told Kitty Kelley, holding up a picture of Neilia in a bikini.

I have followed politics for a lot of years, and never thought that Joe Biden had a lick of sense. This article does nothing to persuade me that I have ever been wrong in my initial assessment. What a self serving dolt!

I've come to realize over the last few years that the CONgress is full of hollow, self-absorbed morons with no moral compass at all. Why we are so stupid as to keep electing people like Joe Biden I can't understand.
They are not worthy of being employed as stable cleaners, much less "leading" this nation.

What a jerk! He always has been. He loves OPM and has been using it all of his life. I see now why he married Jill. She wanted to be First Lady.

FTA: “...I’d come back too tired to talk to her. I might satisfy her in bed but I didn’t have much time for anything else,” would be too much even if his wife were living; after her death this just has an odd and self-serving tone; the, “Leaving Las Vegas,” ethic of being at the end of your rope but still stud enough to get it up.
What’s singular about Biden’s character is that despite his personal tragedy, and the fact of having Milton’s sonnet, “On His Deceased Wife,” standing next to a print of Byron’s “She Walks in Beauty,” his grasp of the eternal verities seems superficial, ending in what his actions define as a purely situational ethics, like Ted Kennedy’s.
Joe doesn’t get it, and that obtuseness is his insulation against any kind of frightening inner vision, and the definition of the, “That’s Just Joe,” appeal: he’s uncomplicatedly out for himself.
Everybody can relate to that.
As far as his candidacy, the superficial car-salesman glad-handing ropes in the stupid, and his running mate corrals the rest, the, “intelligent,” who understand he’s just Kamala’s beard.
The latter consider it a point of pride they’re pulling it over on the rubes.

Could Staff post the 1974 article linked here, maybe in the Must Reads? I think LDotters would be interested in reading and sharing that piece. It might be an eye-opener for people who find Joe Biden to be a good guy. It proves he never, ever was.

Seems to me they are missing a lot here. No mention of his running around with another woman while his wife was still living. It was reported he was seen driving that woman's husband's Corvette at the time. Fake grief on his part when it came to Neilia. Hypocrite!

Once a corrupt perv always a corrupt perv. Men who feel the need to brag about their sexual escapades usually are badly lacking in that area.

I guess at least Joe has held firmly to his principles all these years.
I must apologize for thinking him a shiftless POS without a strong moral compass

Good grief! That is disgusting… An avaricious power- and money-hungry man. No wonder he and Obie got along. And the way he talked about his late wife and their relationship.

Re #6, I may be wrong but I believe that was the story of his swiping Jill from her husband. His first wife had been dead for a while when he met Jill. Joe was seen driving Jill’s husband’s brown Corvette and recognized by a friend of her husband's. She is no better than Joe is...

The Washingtonian interview cited/linked was published June 1, 1974, less than two years after the death of his wife and baby. And he’d already been dating a reporter long enough for them to be considered a romantic item, possibly to be married… An insecure man, he brags of relationships which are all about him.
