The Electoral College did more in 2016

As the attacks on the Electoral College continue, we can see how important the Electoral College is from the 2016 presidential election results. Many observers have noted that Clinton's margin in California was greater than her plurality nationwide. Many observers have also argued that without the Electoral College, a couple or a few large states would dominate elections. What few if any have noticed is that in 2016, the Electoral College prevented 3 out of 3,141 counties with about 5% of the electorate and population from picking the president.

The Dems like to rattle on ignorantly about "getting rid of the Electoral College".
I don't think it can ever happen because it would require a constitutional amendment, which requires that the legislatures of 2/3 of the states, which is 35 states, would vote to support this amendment. Since California, Florida, NY and Illinois would probably control everything if there was no EC, I am pretty sure that the amendment couldn't get more than maybe 10 or 12 legislatures to vote for wiping out their ability to weild any power in Presidential elections. They would be short at least 23-25 votes, basically not even remotely close to passing this amendment.

To the question "What do we have, a republic or a monarchy?" Ben Franklin reportedly responded, "A republic, if you can keep it." So the real question in the upcoming election is not WHO will govern our country but HOW our country will be governed, and as for me, give me a republic or give me death.

The goal is Electoral Votes. Trump ran a campaign focused only on that and won in a landslide. If the goal were the popular vote he would have certainly run a very different campaign and won more popular votes. Alternative histories are all fiction - maybe he would have won the popular vote. This isn’t Venezuela or Cuba, we don’t do things that way. We have a better way and real history proves it.

They don't call them swing states for nothing, and the Democrats play in the same EC count game as Republicans.
What they should do is stop winner-take-all allocation. It would likely encourage many in deep blue state their vote would matter more, and likewise in deep red states, I presume. But, I'll bet more Republicans in deep blue states feel it's not worth it which would change the dynamics in many House races.

Lefties like to tear up laws and contracts that have withdrawal provisions, but the left does not want to follow those rules either, because they don't have the votes. As for the electoral college, small states are all blue, and have 2 senators each. If the electoral college is dispensed with, all those blue state senators with small territory and population will have to go. The left wants to get, yield nothing, and the Republicans have been letting them get away with it for decades. Trump is the first person, who is not a politician, that has reversed these egregious one way deals.

Nevada has two (2) Metro Statistical Areas (Las Vegas and Reno). The half dozen TV stations in the two areas monopolize. Thus, commercials on those outlets provide "the truth" to almost 100% of people in the state,
And that is how the state went form red to blue last time around.

The Electoral College was a requirement originally demanded by the less populated colonies so that New York would not dominate every political decision.
Amazing how that need still exists today, even if the population centers have evolved and migrated a bit.

#1, it takes a 3/4 majority vote to pass a Constitutional amendment, or 38 states. Ain't gonna happen
