The man arrested for shooting two LA police officers in September may not be the right guy. Either that or his arrest record is incorrect. Two weeks ago on September 14, 2020, we reported that Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced that the Board of Supervisors authorized a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the ambush shooting Saturday night of two Sheriff Deputies. The two young deputies were ambushed and shot as they sat in their squad car near a Compton Metro station.

You can't make that assertion without using three dimensions. Or, by simply reenacting the scene. When I saw this for the first time I fully expected people to presume that the assailant was shorter than he really was.

OK, even assuming he is actually 5" 6", but 220 lbs.?

The shooter was shorter than 5’6. Notice that he had to lift his arm up to shoot into the police car. I am 5’4 and I wouldn’t have to lift my arm as he does. And he runs like a dwarf. Mistakes can be made in arrest records. I would not go crazy over this. They got the guy. He’s a dwarf. Carjacked a Mercedes and shot the owner in the leg, took off with the car. Fast forward: Shot the deputies and made his getaway in the same stolen car. Then he was arrested for the carjacking in a 9 hour standoff in Lynwood, during which he was smoked out of an apartment with tear gas. He was jailed. At some point, someone figured out that he was also the deputy shooter.

On Sept. 15, three days after he allegedly shot the deputies, Murray was located but fled from authorities when they went to contact him, Wegener said.
A pursuit ensued, and a pistol was thrown from the vehicle during the chase. The firearm was recovered by investigators.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop in Lynwood and Murray was arrested with the help of a K-9 unit, Wegener said.

A few days after the deputy shooting, Murray was being chased in connection with the September 1 carjacking/shooting , not the deputy shooting. He was caught using K-9s (quite a standoff). They apparently didn’t know they had the deputy shooter in custody until the pistol he tossed from his car during the chase turned up a match to the one used in the deputy shooting.

The real shooter was standing on a grassy knoll across the street.

Went and looked up previous arrests. 5’6 and 220 could be right (5’6 and 220 would be a stubby-looking guy who might run rather oddly). He is described as a dwarf elsewhere, but those booking reports can’t all be wrong.

Re #4 -- Aren't police SUVs (like the vehicle in which the deputies sat) taller than police cars?

That's already been covered. It was a fish eye lens which distorts everything.

The photos/media looks like the same guy to me. He is crouching a bit in the shooting scene. A little bow legged when running. To me the photographic evidence is consistent.

When I saw the video and watched his gait as he ran, I said to my husband, "that looks like a dwarf, not a kid or a man".

As long as we are beating this story to death, have a look at this man. 5’6, 210 lbs. Add on another 10 lbs. and imagine how he looks with heavy jacket/hoodie on, baggie pants, and then running away.

My impression from watching him run away was that he was a short Mexican/Central American with short legs, as they frequently do. But, often that awkward running style is due to their pants being halfway down their butts, and the crotch of the pants being nowhere near their crotch, effectively hobbling them like a tight dress does to women. They can't get full hip movement, so they run strangely.
Also, there are distortions in camera lenses of this type. The height of the SUV can be used as a reference.
Frankly, the video is so fuzzy as to be essentially worthless for ID purposes, IMO.

"Runs like a dwarf" is pants flying at half staff, often.

Unless I missed it that police report says 506, not 5'6". What would 506 mean? Sounds familiar? Isn't it some police code on a TV show?
The exact location is known. The size of the police car is known. So accurately determine the shooter's height by recreating that photo using officers of various heights.

The ambush shooter Murray was undoubtedly wearing his pants at half staff, gangsta style, with the top foot of his underwear exposed. That's why he ran away duckstyle. On various live police shows over the years multiple perps have worn their belts around their upper thighs--kind of the absolute reverse of Jerry Nadler's apparent waistline, which is tight under his armpits--and law enforcement is probably glad they do. Chasing a bad guy with his pants around his knees would be about as challenging as chasing a female perp in a pencil skirt. Unless the bad folks can quick-leg it like a plover on the beach, they're going to be east to run down.
The runty-looking shooter didn't look any taller than the car's roof. But some modern SUVs are taller than I am (5'9"). Supposedly, the shooter used a recovered ghost gun that has already been ballistically matched to the bullets fired into the officers and their vehicle. Whatever, this proud would be cop killer should never see the blue sky again.

The guy in the video looks like a midget and has a very distinctive way of walking so it shouldn’t be that hard to identify him. By now he’s probably back in Mexico or holed up in Portland.

Lots of armchair analysis going on, I'll add another factor. The shooter could barely keep his feet under him as he shot. OK maybe unbalanced but also could be due to having minimal mass to control the force of discharging a firearm.
The biggest mystery of all? Authorities keeping this info unreleased for two weeks. So yeah, something stinks here.

My very limited observations:
street appears to have a slanted grade
shooter appears to be hunching down in order to aim into the side windows
pantaloons are flapping in the breeze
i didn't see a moving video.
Both Officers survived (thank God), so I hope they have already id'd the attempted murder suspect.

That fat butt running away from the scene in the video footage could mean the shooter was a transgender woman.

The article's basic premise is comparing the shooter to the height of the car, and says that the car involved was the Dodge Charger Interceptor, with a roof height of 4' 11". In the photo, the headlight is all wrong for the Charger, and I'm sure I can see the back end of an SUV there. I think it's the Ford Police Interceptor, with a roof height of 5' 9".
The guy in the video does look stumpy and clumsy, but he's about the right height for the SUV, and *you* try running up the street when your britches are around your knees.
