During a recent conversation with a woman, a liberal Democrat with a characteristic animus toward President Trump, our discussion turned to “the Pandemic,” i.e. the Great UnReason of 2020.
Specifically, we spoke about the rise of Mask Empire.
I tried explaining that world renowned scientists—as opposed to career bureaucrats like Anthony Fauci—have demonstrated repeatedly that masks, particularly the kinds of cloth and surgical masks that have become a daily feature of the general public, are ineffective in preventing people from getting infected with COVID-19. Masks can even be dangerous, both vis-à-vis COVID, as well as with respect to the exacerbation of other health issues.

I have vague memories from a time long ago when we were told to do these things to 'flatten the curve', so hospitals wouldn't run out of ventilators and people would die because of a lack of resources under the crushing stampede of dying Americans.
Seen that 'cliff' shaped curve lately? And you can get a really good buy on a surplus, never used once, ventilator. The market is flooded. No matter. Now put on your face diaper CITIZEN. OBEY!

As I said on another thread, a few weeks of cooperation with mitigation guidelines (because no one knew what was going on, so we trusted the medical community) was doable. Anything beyond that is pathological.

there is, I believe, a sort of psychological value to the mask wearing. it signals to people that they should stay away. I like that.
Eric Cartman's idea is better. carry a six foot long stick, and use it to keep people away.
when I see people jogging, especially those who jog on the street, wearing masks. I just shake my head in disbelief. Stupid as Jo Biden.
what will mask wearing do for the usual seasonal flu problem, by the way? The cDC barely makes an effort to keep track of the seasonal flu. They report, on their website, that deaths from regular flu, for the 2019-2020 flu season, were anywhere from 26,000 to 60,000.
will the CDC report regular flu deaths for 2020-2021 as Kung Flu deaths? The 200,plus kung flu deaths include
probable kung flu deaths. I suspect other countries do not do that, and I believe the President may have alluded to that during the Biden Beatdown on Tuesday.
(Here is a good campaign slogan for DJT - Beatdown Biden Better.)

Here in western Colorado, masks are no longer required at my fitness center except for when you enter and leave the building. At the grocery store, only a few shoppers are wearing masks. Most just wear it around their neck and nobody cares about the one-way traffic signs/arrows on the floor anymore. Our two hospitals continue to report lots of empty beds. But, not for long. They anticipate lots of December and January babies!

If masks are so effective, so amazing, even more effective than a vaccine according to Redfield, why hasn't the CDC been.recommending masks during the yearly flu season all these decades? Millions of people, especially young people, have died from the flu.

I am 100% against wearing masks ... It does not make sense to me that wearing a bandana made from a re-cycled KISS tee shirt...or a flimsy, ill-fitting mask that cost $2.50 at Rite-Aid ...or even the vaunted N-95 surgical mask...can stop a microscopic virus that is .0125 microns in size ... The Best Analogy I've heard ... " It's like putting up a chainlink fence to stop mosquitos."
....BUT...If you think wearing a mask protects you/others from Covid...I suggest you take 5 minutes and read this posted article :
....it is a credit to the sheer propaganda power of the media ( with near 100% participation of all members ) that they have successfully ( and so easily !!?? ) managed to scare the schiff out of so many people over Covid.
...the reason they get away with this is simple : The media does not publish/allow ANY data that is contrary to their perverse Agenda ...which is " to keep people scared over Covid"
....For example : How many people would they scare if they framed their daily broadcasts and news articles like this : " Statistics from the past 9 months show that 99.9 % of people who are otherwise reasonably healthy have almost NO CHANCE of dying or getting seriously sick from Covid-19 " ...???
...and...The CDC reported in print a few weeks ago that less than 10,000 people ( out of 330,000,000) have actually died solely from Covid -19 ...!!??..... The media can't have people knowing that !!...they buried it !
...instead, all you hear is The Drumbeat ...."200,000 have died from Covid !!! "....NOT TRUE !! ....200,000 may have died WITH Covid...BUT...that's a BIG difference... Have you noticed that apparently almost NO ONE is dying now from The Flu...pneumonia...COPD...diabetes...lung cancer...obesity...heart failure...etc...???......according to the media, you would think were it not for the "deadly Covid virus" they would ALL still be alive...??
...there are loads of Reports from extremely credible sources that state wearing masks is basically useless...and gives people a false sense of security
...but ...you won't see ANY of these in the mainstream media ...?? ....WHY not??......let people hear both sides ...and decide for themselves
..the best/fastest way to "return to normal" is for masses of people to STOP wearing the masks.

Here in my little corner of S Louisiana, no masks are required at the gym/fitness center, and even though all businesses display our petty tyrants mandatory face mask notice, almost no one wears one and the employees have stopped asking you to.

Our Wal-Mart has taken away the one way arrow signs and you can use any entry/exit instead of just the one. They are staying open later and even though the governor's mask mandate is still in force, I see some unmasked people in and no one seems to mind.
I work at a university and the dean of the area where I work is a real mask Karen. We have arrows, we have signs and we wear the mask. I suspect if she every caught someone without a mask, life for that person would be hell.
The county where I live has 133,000 people. We have had 50 deaths. That's all.

The worst people I have ever worked with are Karens! Once they put a sign on the men’s room mirror “wash your hands”! This was 35 years ago! My boss was a really strong woman! I told her and she went like a misleading down to their Managers office and returned and said “you won’t see anymore signs”! Punching a Karen Bully In the nose is what is best in life!

There are certain places where a REAL mask (N95) is appropriate, such as hospitals and nursing homes. How many people who are radical mask wearers even know what a N95 mask looks like? They would be surprised! They are not the colorful masks people wear out on the street, with college mascots, political symbols, or other cute graphics. Out here on the street, masks are just a symbol of submission.
I propose to have mask burning parties to demonstrate opposition to the scam.

If people need that psychological crutch, fine, but don't drag the rest of us into that imaginary problem scenario. People in Chinese industrial cities have been wearing masks for years and with good reason, they can see the very visible dirt in the air and the masks stop it. The Kung-flu? No. My local WalMart tried the attendant at the door warning each maskless customer before they entered the store and they annoyed so many people that it was quickly dropped. (Those troublesome Amish always smiled and walked in without one.) Customers wearing them now run about 30%.

Masks are only good for looking into store video cameras. People do not recognize each other, so you can wear anything to the store, without it damaging your reputation.

In the beginning it was a novelty to go into a bank with a mask. Same for the liquor store. Not so much anymore.
I like the theater of masks - watch the evening news where the reporter is doing a stand up miles from anyone. (Like the reporter in the empty stands of the Indy Brick Yard.) And the drama queens are wearing a mask.
My mask for the cooler months has been made from the Gadsden Flag -(Don't Tread on Me.) My niece is making me a new one, made from the Virginia State flag (Sic Semper Tyrannis - Thus Always to Tyrants.)

Masks to stop viruses are like a chain link fence to keep out mosquitoes.
There were many studies, carefully done scientific studies, that showed NO benefit from masks in preventing airborne disease spread. The use of masks by surgeons to keep droplets of spittle from a wound that they are leaning directly over and working on is valid. Spittle is full of bacteria, and can infect an open wound. But a mask does nothing to stop actual viral particles. Spittle from a cough or sneeze....probably, yes.
Blow smoke through a piece of cloth.....it goes right through, and viruses are far smaller than smoke particles. The Wuhan flu runs from 0.06 to 0.14 microns, the pores in even a superior N95 mask, which is FAR better than a random piece of cloth, will stop about 0.30 microns, so an N95 will probably stop a portion of the virus particles. But a random piece of cloth.....far, far larger pores. Even the breathing droplets, while stopped fairly effectively by an N95 mask are not stopped well by a random piece of cloth. Typical breating droplets are about 1 micron, N95 works, but cloth does not.
The one real benefit that a mask can give is against large sneeze or cough droplets. But, there is very little evidence that this is a significant transmission method for Wuhan flu. You are far more likely to get it from a surface touched by an infect person, or by touching an infected person. And gloves are no better, likely worse, than gloves. Unbroken skin is virus proof. Wash or disinfect hands often when out of your home, and you are fine. People tend to do much less washing and disinfecting of gloves, so the ACTUAL route (not through the hands) is more likely to happen with contaminated gloves...touching mouth or eyes.
This is why my main line of defense is a small bottle of isopropyl alcohol with a spray top, bare hands always. Whenever I leave a store or restaurant, which are my only exposures, I spray my hands down with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol, 70%) and rub them together to distribute it well. I also rub the outside of the bottle with wet hands, since I touched it before cleaning. Cheap and it actually does inactivate Wuhan viruses, very quickly, very reliably and very cheaply. I don't like the sticky residue of most gel cleansers. And keep your hands off your face when in a restaurant or store.
Avoid contact with young folks, like college age or a bit older, who are the greatest concentration of infected in the data in our county, probably because they take none of this at all seriously, not doing much, lots of personal contacts, virus be damned. That is fine with me, they are pretty unlikely to get very sick from it, but I don't want to get it from them by me being dumb. But I relatively rarely hang around with younger folks unless it is at a family gathering, and those are out of town, not happening these days.
Regulate who you contact, wash or cleanse your hands when you are out, and you will likely be fine. Masks are mostly baloney, more political theater than actual medical benefit, IMO. And since I am forced to use a mask some of the time, I use an N95. If I am forced, I might as well use one that might actually do something, perhaps, maybe. Cloth masks are theater.

They are great if you're a BINO (Baptist in name only) and your preacher surprises you in the liquor store.

It's shocking how many people cling to their masks without any curiosity about the facts. I have had a lot of workmen at my house in the last few months. All of them come to the door with a mask on the first time. I always say "You don't have to wear a mask here unless you want to" and they always take it off with great relief, unless they have specific orders from their company to wear it. Just doing my bit.
