The Times is proud that
it released Trump’s tax returns,
but it shouldn’t be

The New York Times is undoubtedly pleased that it published more than two decades’ worth of Donald Trump’s tax returns. The self-congratulations are premature. The Times’ article reveals that Trump was telling the truth all along about his audit. We can also see that Obama’s policies benefitted rich people. Finally, because the policies show how our complicated progressive tax system will always benefit rich people with good accountants, the Times unwittingly advanced the argument for a flat tax.

It's not like 99% of us will have any understanding of what all those numbers mean. The man is very rich. He has lawyers and tax men all over the place. This was just another grab at trying to stop Trump from winning. I'd rather see Bidens tax returns, his son's, the Clintons' and the Obama's returns.

How did the Times get his tax returns? Did someone in the IRS release them? There are consequences for the releaser's actions, jail, law suit, etc. Wow, someone would pay the ultimate price if they released my tax returns. These returns were during his time as a private citizen.
Does this mean that someone can release Obama college transcripts?

It would be interesting to see The New York Times tax returns for the same time period.

Donald Trump is a wealthy man but he has used it to do good things. A few months ago I read an article about his philanthropic efforts and it was bittersweet reading it. It was comforting to know that he had offered his help in several situations bit it is sad because the media has successfully painted him in a negative fashion.

If someone released Obama's college transcripts, The New York Times would be at the front of the pack howling bloody murder about it.

Until they post certified copies of the returns - it's just more election lies from the Professional Liars at the New York Times.

I was self employed and you get to write off expenses.
If you buy eguipment you can depreciate it.
So yes you can wind up paying little or no taxes.

It's not very difficult figuring out where his tax returns came from, and it's not from the IRS. Surely you've noticed the very aggressive attempts by the State of New York and in particular, the SDNY to investigate Trump's personal and business finances. I would bet that they've been combing through his state tax returns (which include his federal returns) and shoveling as much as they can over to their partners in crime (literally), the NY Times.
That's precisely why the NYT says they won't print the docs themselves because it would reveal their sources (i.e., clearly show they came from the NY state investigations). Cuomo, the crooked NY AG, and all the crooks at SD NY should now themselves be subjects of a federal investigation. Let's see how they like it.

I see not evidence that Donald Trump's tax records have been RELEASED. Donald Trump's ANNUAL tax filings no doubt consist of tens of thousands of pages and hundreds of attached exhibits. Imagine his annual federal income tax filings that relate to ONLY "Trump Tower" in Manhattan. It's been reported that a single jewelry store in Trump Tower has been appraised to be worth several million dollars. Multiply such records by hundreds of Trump's other real properties. Trump also owns many other types of property that affect his federal income taxes. Only highly qualified federal income tax experts can correctly understand them. Anyone novice cherry pick his tax records and assert a thousand false and/or misleading conclusions that cannot accurately be confirmed or disputed without a thorough analysis of the tax records on which such conclusions are based.

I have exactly one problem with this article: it says that Trump's tax returns make the case for a flat tax, then later refers to a "flat sales tax". Flat tax does not normally refer to a sales tax. I support a flat income tax, which is what is usually meant when someone says "flat tax". Saying "flat sales tax" is stupid, or intentionally misleading because all sales taxes are flat. I support a flat income tax, I oppose a federal sales tax unless there is a constitutional amendment making a federal income tax illegal.

How did Trump get out of paying social security and Medicare tax? (Hint: he didn’t. More dishonest reporting.)

The Slimes should be made to suffer by lawsuit for this obvious attempt to hurt Donald Trump in the election. Just being what they are should be punishment enough but the reporters, editors and owners are too stupid to realize that they are irrelevant and will keep doing what they are doing until the funding dries up.

Where is Obama's tax returns? Better yet, where are his college records that nobody seems to be able to verify? Obama is a non-entity, a ghost with no way to prove his existence. Amazing hypocrisy!

The NYTwits probably have been sitting on this since 2017 and figured they might not need it if the democrats had fielded a complete person to oppose President Trump in 2020.

Remember Donald Trump did not make the tax laws that were in force back in those years. His tax returns, covering all his businesses are very complicated and were no doubt prepared by professional accountants and lawyers.
If the IRS during the Obama years had any evidence that Trump failed to pay his legally due taxes, as required by the tax laws, you can bet that they would have gone after Trump and his businesses, since that did not occur, you have to figure that whatever amounts of tax that Trump and his businesses paid complied with the tax laws, especially since the IRS apparently audits Trump each year.
It was and is not against the law for Trump, as a private citizen and business person to receive legitimate income from his foreign business ventures, like golf courses and hotels, and Trump deriving such income. That is completely different from the Biden family receiving big bucks from China, Russia, and the Ukraine that is based upon their "Rainmaker" Joseph Biden being an influential US Senator and the US Vice-President at those times, and doing all sorts of under the covers favors for entities and individuals in those foreign countries, some of which are very advisarial to US interests and national security.
Trump has been President now for almost four years for which he has donated all his presidential salaries to different fruitful organizations. There is no evidence that Trump's past business related activities, either foreign or domestic, have impacted on any decisions that he has made as President and all the Democrat's insinuations of business wrongdoing have been found to be false claims. Besides Trump has barred the Trump Organization from entering into any foreign deals for as long as he is President, a decision that is sure to have lost the Trump Organization a lot of money over the last three plus years.
Common sense will tell you that this latest revelation of anti-Trump news by the anti-Trump New York Times, coming out a couple of days before the first Presidential Debate, based upon anonymous sources, as is usual with the New York Times, should be considered to be just more fake news.

I operate a modest one person business and have investments and properties that generate additional income. My annual federal tax return is about half an inch thick. Plus due to the nature of some investment vehicles, I have to file tax returns in several states besides the one in which I am domiciled. One of my major expenses is what I pay my accountant each year to sort it all out. When I try to imagine what Trump's tax returns must look like, I envision a U-Haul truck boxes full of documents. i can't picture the nimrods at the New York Times being able to make heads or tails out of the actual tax returns. It would take them months to sort it all out, even with professional help. The same politicians who are bitching about Trump's tax bill are the ones who wrote the insane tax code.
