The Ones Who Walk Away

There is a 1973 science fiction or fantasy story, depending upon how you define those terms, by Ursula K. Le Guin titled “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.” (snip) a growing number can no longer manage the moral gymnastics required to be a Democrat today.(snip) Have all of those wayward Democrats become Republicans? Probably not. Just because they can no longer stomach the hypocrisy of the Left doesn’t mean walkaways are ready to rebrand as conservatives. The author is correct - Trump walked away from the Democrat party years ago, then from the Republican elites when saw they were no better than their liberal compatriots. He’s taken things in a whole new direction and delivers.

The walking away that LeGuin was talking about is not something President Trump has done. He has seen the problems and walked toward them, working to solve them. He would never have left a child buried. As for today’s Democrats, this author has this to say: Step by step over the years the Democrats have retreated farther away from the truth, burrowing deeper into the comforting warmth of their big, beautiful lies. They pity and scorn those who can’t, or even hesitate, to follow them in that deep. The leftist must hold in contempt those who don’t agree with him completely. Even the slightest doubt creeping in will corrode the foundations of his beliefs, which are built not even on sand but on air and arrogance. The vitriol also serves to keep leftists in line, knowing they will be mercilessly attacked if they break ranks. And yet, a growing number can no longer manage the moral gymnastics required to be a Democrat today. I can see this happening to Democrats in California. No, not all of them. But enough that it could - as in the past - make a difference. The current Dem administration there has pushed the pendulum too far for even many Democrats...

The Democrat party is not the FDR New Deal or even LBJ Great Society party. Neither is the Republican party the party of Lincoln, not even of Ronald Reagan. The world has moved on, the working class is smaller and shrinking, political and economic values have also moved on. Trump hasn't stolen the GOP from the elite. He may be borrowing it for eight years, drawing "deplorables" to its flag, but the elites still hold many reins of power. Think Mitch and his Senate majority aren't solidly "Republican"? They hold the fate of Trump's supreme court nomination in their hands. The nominee has better comport with their standards, whatever they may be. And then what happens when PDT is history...term limited. Who becomes the next Trump? So, while celebrating those "walking away", consider the flow of time, the erosion of public moral thinking, the "values" imparted (propagandized) by popular culture and public schools marinating further into society. We have colleges full of "young adults" on scholarship for life, never having worked a sweaty day ever, demanding to "be heard", thinking prosperity is forever and easy, and dissent from their orthodoxy is "hate". Let's be generous with the rich peoples' money - it's just right. 2020 is just the next stop...and then what?

Also from Le Guin, The Farthest Shore (The Earthsea Cycle, Book 3). A wonderful (literally) tale of confronting truth. The upshot being, that which you cannot confront will persist, but once confronted, shall vanish and leave only the reality. A very good yarn, as well.

Democrats know what's happening and need to re-populate their party with illegals. Then they will make them legal in time to vote in 2024.

On Saturday, as many expected, President Trump announced that Judge Amy Coney Barrett was his nomination to fill the empty seat on the Supreme Court. (snip) Bewilderingly, Democrats claim that Barrett is a racist because she adopted two children from Haiti. (snip)And then there’s the anti-feminist assertion that Barrett is a bad mother because she is a working mother. (snip)And of course, there’s the Democrats’ insistence that Barrett is a religious fanatic because she believes in the tenets of her faith. Forgetting who she is, Meghan Markle, duchess of Sussex, has decided she'd also like to become president of the United States. (snip)Seems that with duchess titles coming easily, shouldn't presidential ones, too? All she has to do is smile pretty...and speak woke, and the American voters will be drooling for her. Her foray into U.S. politics is getting particularly unseemly for someone who hasn't renounced her title of duchess. First she started hanging out with Michelle Obama, "teaming up for female empowerment" as the press release, I mean USA Today article, put it.

Even in a profession known for phoniness, Kamala Harris stands out as remarkably fake. We expect politicians to lie — "what a beautiful baby!" — but we also expect them to be reasonably skilled at it. Being unable to convincingly name a favorite thing takes a lot of experience in counterfeiting feelings. Yet, yesterday, in the softest of softball interviews on CNN, where she was asked about her various "favorites" — roast chicken is her "go-to" dish to cook (as if she spends a lot of time in time kitchen [snip]) — she stumbled and revealed that she only pretends to listen to rap music.

When Hunter Biden took that $3.5 million in money transfers from Yelena Baturina, Russia's richest woman, the media lapsed into sudden incuriosity, very bizarre, given that it spent four years yelling about President Trump and his supposed "Russian collusion." Here was real Russian collusion and the blue-checks went blue-screen. (snip) they didn't just fling money around for nothing in return, they both practiced a brutal Chicago-style-cubed politics over there with cash and muscle subject only to Putin's greater power. They got something, they were happy in Moscow at their prized catch of the U.S. vice president's son for a mere $3.5 million, possibly on Putin's muscled string

If you suspect that Joe Biden is suffering from dementia and that the very common symptoms known as “sundowning” are part of his illness, then his “mystifying” campaign schedule starts to make sense. (snip) President Trump mocked Joe Biden on Thursday after the Democratic presidential nominee's campaign called a "lid" on activities for the day early in the morning (snip) The explanation that best satisfies the observable data is that Biden is systematically shifting his circadian rhythms, so that his body will behave as if it is 9 AM or so when the clock in Cleveland, where the debate will be held, reads 9 PM. It was already obvious comparing the two conventions: Even though the Democrats own the actors, they don’t own the true creative talent in Hollywood. That all seems to have crossed to the Republican side of the aisle. The Democrat convention was drab and oppressive; the Republican convention was bright and open. It’s the same thing with ads and memes. As far as I know, there are no incredible, knock-it-out of the park Democrat videos. The Republicans, though, are killing it. Here are four of the best.

If this is the most important election in decades, this is its most important moment. Thus far, this campaign has been a referendum on Trump; Tuesday’s debate will be one on Biden. Its outcome depends on which Biden shows up. Like all races with a president seeking re-election, this one has centered on the incumbent. Thanks to a hostile media and Trump’s aggressive use of social media, America has had plenty of material for judgement.
