I believe it was John Fremont who once exclaimed in astonishment that one could ride a horse at full gallop in the Forests of the Sierras in California. Well, one can do that again now — not among the towering conifers, but over the ashes.
Right now I’m seeing the mountains I grew up in — where I went to school, where I hung out, camped, backpacked, boated, cheated death and generally formed the foundation of my character — burning down. It makes me sad and angry.
This didn’t have to happen. Once upon a time, forests in California were logged, grazed, and competently managed.

They have no idea what an environmentalist really is. They look at one tree, or one deer, or one owl and right away they think we can't do anything to harm them. After all, they watched Disney's Bambi. They saw the destruction the fire brought and decided they couldn't let that happen to Thumper. So they got all these laws passed to protect the forests and all that was in them, they think. But they don't know anything.
There are real conservationists out there who understand how nature works, but they won't listen to them. Maybe someday.

Climate change? Pfffft. All I need to know about MMGW is that Al Gore made a movie about it and made money from it. That alone is proof its a scam. Mother Nature works in cycles we still don't fully understand, but if we use the past as a guideline we see that Mom will always correct our mistakes - in this case, with huge forest fires to rid all the overgrowth and dead trees.

You think they will learn from this experience?

Not just the greenie wackos, but Moonbeam diverting millions of Fed dollars from forest management helped the forests decline as well. When you don't clean up your playgrounds, of course you are going to have spectacular fires happening. Underbrush and fallen trees are not 'natural' they are fuel and fire hazards. We have the same problem up here in Oregon as well. I suspect democrats are going to be feeling very uncomfortable after January 2021, when Trump decides to start having audits of the money trails.

I would guess a very large number of these environmentalists live in urban condos, have never driven a truck or SUV off-road, and are much more at home in gay bathhouses than in the wilderness.

Many times I have heard that line about being able to ride at full gallop and it was true even when I was a kid. Now in many places the forest is so thick you can't even hike thru them. Also as a kid I was always curious as to how all the big trees had blackened burned out cavities in their trunks, when did that fire happen and why didn't the tree burn? Well now those trees burn thanks tot he under growth and they are lost and it will take hundreds of years to replace.

The real issue of the CA voter isnt that they vote one way or the other. Its this. In a discussion wit a woman whose sun is fighting the fires, I said that its Californias fault. She was flummoxed. Why she asked. So I told her about correct mgmt techniques and how her son would be employed throughout the year burning if things were done right.
This is where the disconnect is. She didnt agree or disagree. She just said, "Oh, I dont know" and that was the end of the conversation. And so, her state burns

Another example of how liberals ruin everything they touch.

Pelosi is blaming all of it on climate change, idiotic. But they either have money invested in crazy green energy or counting on getting tax monies from laws passed. Either way, it's a scam.

Being an environmentalist means never to have to say you're sorry.

Mr. Clarkson, you are is spot on! This is most eloquent stating of the obvious and foreseeable causes of the fires that I have read. The sad truth is after the fire are put out, little, if anything, will change.

As I drove to work this morning and saw all the smoky haze coming from these fires, I thought how so-called "environ-mentalists" have destroyed the environment for the past decades. Congress passed laws to enforce clean air and water and the pollution was slowly cleaned up. We didn't need any environmentalists for that to get done.

Biology was my major in college - I thought I was an conservationist. Then I learned about the 'Bambi Principle' - actually articulated by a professor. The gig was this: find a cute little animal and get the MSM to associate this cute little animal with some patch of land - like a swamp, a forest, a tundra that you want to control. Then get some 15 year old or 22 year old to weep over the supposed decline of said cute little animal because evil corporations are trying to 'exploit' that patch for their evil purposes - like logging to get timber for building homes & towns, or drilling oil to keep people warm in the winter or provide electricity for light etc. Thus entered the spotted owl which killed logging in the NW or tree hugging who were worship old trees etc.
