Alternate mainstream media headline, inspired by our colleague Guy Benson: Mitt Romney suddenly reverts to previous status as a dog-torturing venture capitalist. Or, alternate alternate headline, via Politico: Cocaine Mitch wins again. Sen. Mitt Romney said he would support a floor vote on President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court, essentially clinching consideration of Trump’s nominee this year despite the impending election.
Just two Republican senators have asked for the party to put the breaks on the confirmation. And with a 53-seat majority, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) now has the votes he needs

Mitt's been getting a lot of negative input from us Utah Republicans.
I keep bringing up his nasty Burisma ties.
I also remind him of the fact that the Mormon-controlled gop leadership here bent many rules to get him into office. This won't happen again as we now have poll and procedure watchers to prevent it.
I think, hard-headed as he is, Mittens is starting to "get it."

Well don't know what jolt of reality hit him but it's about time. The democrats have this voting business down to a science. Screw up the mail in ballots, take too long to figure it out, Pelosi becomes president. Uh, no. I don't think so.

It's very simple #2.
If Romney wants to be re-elected 2024 standing in the way of a solid Conservative SCOTUS would end that.

I wonder what changed his mind. Bad poll numbers or has he finally figured out that the democrats are not his friends. They are lying, conniving, despicable, SOBS.

Hate to agree with Mittens, but NOW is the operative word, what with the chaos and votes from nowhere planned by the Dems.....we HAVE to have a nine person Court to settle the ess to come!

I might have missed it in Mitts letter, but all I got was that he supported a floor vote. He didn't actually say he'd vote t confirm, only that he'd vote. If that's the case, I don't trust him.

Does that mean he'll actually vote with the republicans? I just see a commitment to consider the nominee and vote in some fashion. I still don't trust him. I can see him doing a McCain thumbs down out of spite and meanness. Sad, because I once thought he was worthy of leading this country. What a sad, sickening disappointment he's been over the past couple of years.

Sounds good, Romney. After the President delivers his nominee on Saturday, Let's get the 3-day hearing done next week with a vote on Friday night. This will give Chuckie time to put the pieces of his head together in time to congratulate the President on a hard-fought victory.

Agree with posters #7 and 8...He only said he'd vote, not that he'd vote yes. Big difference.

Everything Mitt Romney says and does is very carefully parsed and positioned to serve his own agenda. Did Romney say he would vote for the nominee?
When the Democrat opposition research on the nominee lands on the front pages, as it assuredly will, what will Mitt's "conscience" then compel him to do? Leave a Looney Tunes character-shaped hole in the nearest wall?
Beware Romney bearing grifts.

McConnell is not going to hold a vote if he knows Mittens will vote no.

Above posters, I am no fan of Mittens but he did say that he will support the president.
Now, Mitch, dump the hearings and go directly to the vote. Both Barrett and Lagoa have been vetted via hearing in the last couple of years, so there’s no need to hold new ones. You know that if the situation were reversed, the demonrats would do just that.
