Big Ten university presidents will meet Sunday to hear a presentation about playing a fall football season after all -- maybe as soon as mid-October -- amid pressure to kick off from parents, players, coaches and even the president. A person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press the Big Ten’s Return to Competition Task Force met Saturday. The medical subcommittee, comprised of athletic directors, doctors and athletic training staffers, made a presentation to a subgroup of eight presidents and chancellors. The presentation included improvements in the availability of rapid, daily COVID-19 testing.

Ha!!! Big Ten university presidents are meeting to discuss how much $$$ they're going to lose and all the administrator salaries that are going to need to be cut - including their own.

Grab them by their financials, and their hearts and minds will follow.

I also heard one of the authorities that voted to cancel the season has a son that plays for Mississippi ,I guess. There season is still on and the father openly said he will be going to all his games. Just heard it in a conversation and may not be true.

What the OP said. I don't see a lot of fear in the students but the teachers and administrators are all scared to death of the big, bad 'rona.

Oh my. What will Gov. Whitmer say? Opening up in any way is not in her best interest.

With other leagues playing after the PAC12 and B1G just quit without trying in their misguided attempt to hurt the POTUS, the better B1G teams are realizing how this hurts their ability to recruit the best players. It may be too little, too late. If they don’t give teams enough time to be in football shape, injuries and quality of play will be a problem. If they give teams enough time, they won’t be able to get in enough games to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this meeting today happens to be immediately after several college footbal games were featured on TV yesterday (like Duke vs Notre Dame). Not only does it shatter the narrative of the deadliness of COVID making it necessary to cancel all sports, but most of all...(drum roll)...these BIG 10 presidents can't stand the thought that OTHER colleges that aren't communist/idiots will be raking in all the TV money.
If COVID was so dangerous, shouldn't all these football players, who have already been practicing for weeks, be dropping dead all over the place? You know, like grocery store clerks, big box retail people, Amazon delivery people, cops, rioters, etc. have been...oh wait, that hasn't been happening either. My bad.

October gives them plenty of time to paint the Black Lives Matter nonsense murals all over the place and get the appropriate patches sewn on their uniforms. Stats say that two percent of college football programs actually make a profit from their games, most are heavily subsidized by student tuition so little Johnny now gets a worthless education but he has the satisfaction of knowing that he helped out the football team.

They, none of them, would have this problem, if they would just play football and NOT shout out their political affiliations..when you aggravate more than 1/2 your customer base, expect problems with your income....

I don't give a flip about professional football, but I really look forward to some of my favorite college teams facing off. People who would not care to sit in a university class nor send their children to one would like to watch in person a helmet-to-helmet meeting on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Buh-bye, American pie.

I am looking forward to see all of them bankrupt. Maybe the players will attend classes again and learn something.

#10 hit the nail on the head. I've been saying for weeks that if schools in Texas can play football - and they are - then it should be masks off for everyone, restaurants and bars should open to full capacity, etc. People are getting sick of it, anyway. I think it's only a matter of time when the county judges free us from masks (ours already has) and force the governor to follow suit. It's all based on a numbers racket anyway.

Football fuels the entire college athletic machine.
All those crappy Title IX sports, club sports and any other minor sports that only the parents and or boyfriends/girlfriends of the players attend are funded by the spoils of football.
This is purely a money grab.

This is not just about entertainment. Football is a major industry employing thousands of dedicated hard working individuals. The educational mission of universities is to prepare students to be hard working and dedicated people -- in all walks of life.
Universities cannot achieve this mission by weeping in a corner and cancelling everything.
