It’s now looking like the lockdowns may have
been a huge mistake

Were lockdowns a mistake? To that nagging question, the answer increasingly seems to be yes.
Certainly, they were a novelty. As novelist Lionel Shriver writes, “We’ve never before responded to a contagion by closing down whole countries.” As I’ve noted, the 1957-58 Asian flu killed between 70,000 and 116,000 Americans, between 0.04 percent and 0.07 percent of the nation’s population. The 1968-70 Hong Kong flu about 100,000, 0.05 percent of the population.
The US coronavirus death toll of 186,000 is 0.055 percent of the current population. It will go higher, but it’s about the same magnitude as those two flus,

Hey, Mike. Here's a theory for you to ponder. The "scientists" lied to President Trump and to us. The "pandemic" was purposefully blown of proportion through "computer models" in order to railroad us into lockdown. The two-week BS was the bait for the later switch to month-to-month-to-month. This has Deep State stink all over it. The riots are just a little added spice to keep us cowering in our homes. Thank God for President Trump. He will navigate us through this crocodile infested swamp to solid ground safely. I have no doubt.

That shutdowns were an incredible overreaction was fairly obvious to anybody paying attention at least four months ago.

This just a piece of the democrat political puzzle to grab control of the local governments, house, senate and the WH.

I’m in a partner in an appliance repair company. The first couple weeks were a little slow then after that the dam burst. We take on a an average of 100 phone calls a day. We are a small company service roughly 130 people a week. Not big numbers but since this began we have had just 2 customers call us and tell us not to come because they may, I say may have been effected by COVID. So for a pandemic that was to wipe out millions I think we should have encountered maybe a few more with daily interaction with have with public. On a side not, thanks to all the service techs out there that go into peoples homes on a daily bases without knowing what to expect.

We had to have an AC guy come the other day. As he walked up the driveway to meet my husband, he asked if he needed to wear a mask. My husband told him “of course not!”, and he said “good! We have to ask.”

The lockdown increased unemployment from barely 3% to over 14% in an election year. The lockdown worked as intended, except the economy was not supposed to come roaring back before Nov. 3.

Was it the Chinese releasing this Virus to help the Democrats and Joe Biden who's son has made millions dealing with the Chinese?
Of course that is considered a conspiracy theory ,but it holds more water than the tripe that Hillary put out about Trump and the Russians.

Of course it was together with the masks, the covid death count, the distance and everything else the rats invented to destroy the economy, the country, American lives and our President.

All good comments. #12 and #13 provoke the most thinking.
If this were not a coup attempt, a two-week lockdown, at the most, would have been prudent before having been declared a (costly but tolerable) Mulligan.

It wouldn't be far fetched to think that the Dems and the Chinese were in Collusion with the export of the Covid Virus. Both had a motive. Although, on further thought, I can't imagine no matter how much a Democrat despised Trump, that they would do that. Therefore, it must have been the solo work of the Chinese Communist Party / CCP.
I wonder if we're watching Antifa or even Iran to see if they have connections to the CCP.
The Virus caught everyone off guard and President Trump relied on expert sources that proved to be academic not pragmatic or experiential with the disease .. Fauci is all talk and in his 80th year, like Pelosi, should be put out to pasture. At this point, we can't go backward. We learned our way through this disaster and now forge ahead knowing w'are in good hands with President Trump at the helm to protect us and make America Great again. Moreover, we do everything we're able to defeat every Democrat running on a ballot this Nov. 3rd.

This is contrived to control peoples lives and make the online business owners even richer. Also an excuse to steal our election with mail-in ballot fraud. Masks are useless and unhealthy, At best they filter particles grater than .03 microns. The virus in half that size.

Yes they were a complete mistake. But then what can we expect from desperate democrats but stupidity and ignorance? If one wants to see how much this is democrat influenced, one just has to do some quick research on Fauci and his agency's published articles from about 8-10 or so years ago. Everything written is the complete opposite of what that little snark has been putting this nation through the past months. Even HCQ was praised as a therapy for a SARS type virus, but Fauci tried to deny this in the beginning. So how many lives did that snark steal all because he is in this for himself?
The normal flu season has the potential to kill more people than this virus ever did. IIRC, there was a real bad flu season during the Obama presidency that was a bad one in terms of cases and deaths. But they didn't bring out the masks nonsense did they.

"The exaggerated projections of some epidemiologists, with a professional interest in forecasting pandemics"
THAT was a significant factor in getting this rolling. The scientific class is seen to be "disinterested" in politics but that is grossly misleading. There is both prestige and money on the line. The problem is, most of the facts that these people work with come late to the game, sometimes years later. Also, the data is subject to manipulation. Is a person killed in a car accident who tests positive a "COVID" death? That's how some have been recorded. Should a person that tests positive for previously having the virus but does not right now be added to the current case count? We don't even know WHEN they did have it. Still, that is what is happening. Therefore, the numbers are NOT reliable.
Then, for people being so smart and all about epidemiology, they seem to be pretty ignorant. Do masks help or not? Is 6 feet enough social distance, or is 3 feet sufficient? What is the risk of catching COVID from touching a surface? We are told high and low. How should we manage at risk populations, especially in Nursing Homes? Should we move infected patients to hospitals or keep them where they are? It seems like politicians made the choices, not doctors. The results were catastrophic. Should we be using medications that multiple studies say are effective or should we be shamed out of using them because of political and profession ego? Should we follow liberal Europe's herd instinct as prodded by a liberal media or go a different way?
The lockdown incorporated all of the above to make a decision. All of it was deeply flawed. Mix in some fear of potentially millions of Americans dead and and a overwhelmed health system, neither of which happened, and you got a toxic brew. Then, as pointed out, no one has counted up the costs of lost healthcare for other problems, especially depression, and toss in the impact of lost education, and destructiveness of the economic tsunami and did you win by shutting down or suffer a major and unjustified loss.
It's too late to fix what was done but it is clear that another shutdown would be insane. We need targeted, spot mitigations. My small town has had ZERO cases. I'm not dumb about it but an economic shutdown for us because the cities 100 miles south of us see a spike would be a VERY bad decision.
It might help to get rid of a bunch of dem officials as well so that more rational decisions can be made.
