There is No "Straight News" Anymore

I've been reading the New York Times since fifth grade, and the quirks I've noticed over the years have been interesting. For example, until I saw that someone referred in print to Russell Baker as a "humorist," I had no idea his columns were supposed to be funny, though I had stopped reading them years earlier because they were so dull. Anyway, the Times always had a liberal bias in its news pages, but the bias was almost entirely in what was covered and how it was covered. The stories themselves were written and edited in a careful, nonpartisan way. At some point, the Times starting to run "news analysis,"

I entered broadcasting in 1963. The major sources of news for local stations were three: AP, UPI and (I forgot). UPI failed and now we get almost ALL wired news from AP. AP is clearly biased toward baby-killing leftists but continues to tell us that it is giving us facts. It is not.

It seems to me that the 'mainstream' news has always had a 'leftward' bias, at least since 1960. One of the media's signature moments was the Kennedy-Nixon presidential debate, where -on the radio- Nixon won the debates on the logical arguments, but the Democrat Kennedy gained an advantage over Republican Nixon because he looked prettier on the TV, at least on that day. The leftist bias became blatant by 1968, when the Media went all-in on the 'anti-war' (actually the Pro-Communist) cause, demonizing and opposing our soldiers in Vietnam and so encouraged North Vietnamese -who were on the point of giving up- to continue fighting. Ever since, the leftward bias has become stronger and stronger. In the 1980's, the Media and the Democrat Speaker of the House, Tip O'Neill, were more an ENEMY to President Reagan -opposing and mocking everything that President Reagan did- than Gorbachov and the Soviets ever were. Today, the media is all-out in supporting those who would tear down America, silence and mock anyone speaking up for traditional American culture. They are too STUPID to realize that once the 'Revolution' that they praise were to ever take place, that THEIR freedom to say what they want will be the FIRST thing abolished. Today we see media talking about 'The Peaceful Protests'..... as buildings are roaring infernos behind the TV reporters. Invariably, the Leftist rioters and Thugs are presented in the best possible light, and the Police are 'The BAD guys'...... UNTIL the Mob comes for the TV personalities, THEN there is a cry for "HELP! POLICE!" When the New York Times admits that 'We built our news operation around the Trump-Russia story'.....that amount of BIAS should hit everyone up alongside the head like a 2 x 4. That the McClatchy chain of newspapers are circling the drain (One of their papers, the Biloxi Sun-Herald, is the 'main' paper where I live) is not just because news is distributed faster and more efficiently by the Internet, but also because people are tired of being fed the 'Liberal Line' of half-truths and outright lies. Rush Limbaugh, the single most popular person in the media, is popular because he tells the OTHER side of the 'News'....and supplies the information that the 'Big Media' refuses to tell.

An “Angel Mom” whose son was killed by an illegal immigrant was pulled from speaking at the Republican National Convention Tuesday night after she retweeted a social media post containing an anti-Semitic message. Mary Ann Mendoza said on Twitter shortly before the second night of the convention began that she had “retweeted a very long thread earlier without reading every post within the thread.” “My apologies for not paying attention to the intent of the whole message,” she said. “That does not reflect my feelings or personal thoughts whatsoever.”

Seattle rioters tried to seal a precinct door

Their competence leaves a lot to be desired but for pure evil intent this is really something. Last night a group of rioters in Seattle attempted to seal a door to a police precinct while their comrades lit a fire. The attacks last night started with a group of several hundred people at Cal Anderson park. The marched first to the west precinct and later to the east precinct: At the West Precinct — which the city surrounded with cement barricades during protests this summer — some in the crowd spray-painted the building with “burn me” and other messages, threw objects at the building and damaged surveillance cameras.

The authoritarian left isn’t content just to block speech it disagrees with. It also wants to force people into making leftist utterances and gestures. Today, at various restaurants in Washington, D.C, BLM protesters demanded that diners eating outdoors raise their fists in support. Most diners did — this is Washington — but a few did not. Those who did not were berated. The mob chanted “white silence is violence” at them. The statement is stupid and obviously false. If the BLM mob wants, nonetheless, to chant it, that’s fine. But not in the faces of people who are simply trying to eat dinner.

Biden retirement proposal

A little-noticed feature of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s tax plan would flip the incentive structure of a retirement system grounded for nearly a century on the tax deductibility of saving. The former vice president’s "drastic" proposal, in the words of one industry lobbyist, would upend existing tax preferences for retirement saving in 401(k)-style plans. The Investment Company Institute, which represents mutual funds, exchange-traded funds and other investment vehicles in the U.S. and abroad, has already promised opposition. Under current law, workers contribute pretax dollars and thereby reduce their annual taxable income, but they pay full freight when funds are eventually withdrawn in retirement.
Against All Odds, the First Night of the

The first night of the Republican convention was . . . go figure, pretty good! Who would have been surprised if this whole thing had turned into a mess? The Republicans had already changed venues twice, the limitations of holding a big event during a contagious pandemic are considerable, the GOP can’t count on many Hollywood celebrities or musical numbers, the polling looks grim, and last week’s Democratic convention had generally gotten good reviews. But the Mellon Auditorium made a suitably dramatic and stately backdrop. One potential flaw in the programming schedule is a bunch of good speakers were kept early in the evening.

“This entire fiasco is to stop people who want to build the wall.” That was the only response noted from former White House strategist Steve Bannon after his indictment for fraud in New York last week. Facing up to 20 years in prison, it was perhaps the most ambitious political spin from a man whose creativity was matched only by his audacity. If Mr. Bannon is hoping to convert his signature deep-state conspiracy into a criminal defense, however, he will face perhaps his most formidable opponent yet: himself. In a recent book, “Deep State: Trump, the FBI and the Rule of Law” by James B. Stewart, Mr. Bannon is quoted as saying

The state of Wisconsin has been roiled by an incident yesterday that culminated in the shooting of a man named Jacob Blake by Kenosha police officers. The events leading up to the shooting are unclear, but this video shows some of what happened:(Snip for video) Apparently there was some kind of domestic disturbance that resulted in police being called. As the video begins you can’t see Blake, but several officers are standing next to a parked car. Blake either stands up from lying on the ground or–I think–gets out of the vehicle. Two officers have their guns drawn, but we don’t know why. Blake walks around the car

It took approximately 20 seconds for former Secretary of State John Kerry to drop the first flagrant lie in his Democratic National Convention speech on Tuesday, when he claimed that the Obama administration's so-called Iran deal had "eliminated the threat of an Iran with a nuclear weapon." It didn't get any better from there. Kerry knows well that sunset provisions in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action provided Iran's government with a pathway to building nuclear weapons in a few years. He knows well that Israel uncovered a giant cache of documents with instructions on how to jumpstart a program to build a nuclear arsenal,

Periods may be coming to a full stop. While older texters may consider the period an innocent symbol that a sentence has ended, digital natives consider it a triggering form of aggression. The punctuation problem ignited over social media recently, with Gen Z and millennials agreeing that ending a sentence with a period is overly hostile and, worse yet, extremely uncool. “Only old people or troubled souls put periods at the end of every sentence,” wrote digital culture journalist Victoria Turk in her book on digital etiquette “Kill Reply All.”   Corrections*

The NFL is preparing to end the use of military honor guards to present the American flag ahead of the national anthem, according to reports. A league source claims that the policy benching military, federal, and police guards is part of its COVID-19 response, according to Front Office Sports. “They won’t be on the field,” a source told the site. “That could change as the season progresses. But that’s the plan at the beginning.” It appears that there will be no flags on the field and the flag will only appear on electronic scoreboards during the playing of the national anthem, at least for the beginning of the season.

On the eve of the Republican convention, more than two dozen former GOP lawmakers endorsed Joe Biden for president. Trump Derangement Syndrome is spreading faster than COVID-19. Retired Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake makes his case for supporting Biden by claiming Trump “is not conservative,” that Biden “will approach his constitutional role with the reverence and dignity it deserves” and “reach across the aisle.” This is the same argument John Kasich, a former congressman and Ohio governor, made at the Democratic National Convention, when he reassured the public that Biden is “respectful” and won’t “turn sharp left” when he gets in

A new study published to the journal Scientific Reports suggests that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with slightly decreased brain volume. Scientists have long known that heavy alcohol use shrinks the brain, but it's not clear whether or not moderate drinking has a similar effect. Researchers from the University of Helsinki in Finland explored the possible link within a sample of 353 Finnish men and women aged 39 to 45. On average, the subject group reported moderate alcohol consumption, indicated by an AUDIT-C score of 3.92. Such a score is roughly equivalent to drinking two to four times a month, having between three and four drinks a session,
