The Democratic National Convention's
virtual production is awful TV

The Democratic Party kicked off its presidential convention on Monday — with one caveat. Instead of meeting in person in Milwaukee as they had originally planned, Democrats opted for a virtual, four-night event due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Given the significant risks associated with large gatherings right now, the Democratic National Committee made the right call. But it could have at least prepared a better production than what we’re seeing right now. Because it’s difficult to imagine voters lasting through two hours of this stuff, let alone eight hours over four nights. The convention began with the National Anthem, sung virtually by singers whose faces twirled and rotated

The National Anthem, really? You f - ed up right from the start. Asshats. We know you hate us, our country and our President and you start with the National Anthem. You have been screaming, and complaining, and moaning and groaning about the Anthem for MONTHS and that is what you start with. Dear Lord you don't have a clue.

Why would anyone be surprised? WHAT of quality have the dems produced in decades? Even BJ Clintoon was only successful with the economy because the Republicans forced him into it. Besides that, he was bombing aspirin factories and seducing interns. Further, a virtual experience of a large gathering is a pale imitation of the real thing even if it is done well. They have even screwed up Biden's basement broadcasts. It is amazing how bad the dems are at doing this. Heck, Hollyweird is in their pocket as the article points out. Can't they put together a decent convention screenplay? People who know what they are doing will recognize the limitations of medium in which they are working and also its strengths. They will structure a presentation carefully to keep it flowing smoothly and to make its points clearly. The worst thing for the dems is, Trump is a master at this. He knows how to create highly effective small scenes a la "The Apprentice". I suspect that the Republicans will produce "must see TV", providing another reminder that Republicans and Trump are the party of can do and the dems are the party of doo doo.

Watched PART of the DNCs Virtual production....Big Snoozer! It was mentioned that on their repeater [Tues. 08/18 ] The DNC ] is going to have Bill Clinton speaking, you wonder if he'll be wearing that famous Blue Dress? Also, Whitney Houston will be preforming; That must be a treat for all the Dead Voters that will rise from the grave to vote for Slow Joe and Fast Cammie in November? Did anyone else notice that when John Kasich spoke; the big white line [path?] on the right of the screen was more of a straight line, and the one to the left had a decicided 'hook' t the Left ?

Not one right hand over the heart while singing our National Anthem. A production for the appearance of patriotism. We couldn't see what was going on below their shoulders. Chances are they were all taking a knee. They are the party that wants to change our National Anthem to Lean on Me.

I only watched a few minutes of this debacle. I knew the convention was going to be virtual but I assumed that much of it would be live with some people in the room. But it was amazing to me how badly this was done. The Republicans got a big gift here because now they know what not to do. I'm sure that Trump will have an audience for his acceptance speech since he will be outside and it will be live. I hope that much of what the Republicans put forth will be live and have more excitement. Also the Republicans that spoke in favor of Biden were of no consequence, most people don't know or remember them. Susan Molinari?? Come on, who cares.

The opening was the most cynical use of the Pledge and National Anthem (exploitation of a children's choir) as well as the Preamble to the Constitution. It must have been the first time any of them had actually read the Constitution. The director is the same guy who has directed the oscars telecast the past few years, most notably when he went on stage and asked his girlfriend to marry him, to the surprise of his kids who had no idea he was going to do that.

Here we are in the midst of a once-in-a-half-century pandemic, with the economy flattened, millions of people unemployed, and unrest on the streets of our cities. And President-elect Joe Biden says that one of his highest priorities as president will be to reenter the Paris climate accord. President Trump kept his "put America first" promise and pulled the United States out of this Obama-era treaty. Biden wants us back in. Why? Paris is an unmitigated failure. You don't have to take my word for it. National Geographic, a supporter of climate change action, recently ran the numbers and admitted in its recent headline: "Most countries aren't hitting 2030 climate goals."

Teachers unions have been instrumental in keeping American schools online during the pandemic. But some have escalated their positions on reopening to include an array of social justice demands. A set of demands from teachers unions in July, which addressed how to safely reopen schools amid a pandemic, was criticized by The Wall Street Journal editorial board as “political extortion.” The board argued that unions were taking advantage of a health crisis to advance their own ideological agendas and to eliminate competition from charter schools.

Then they turn out to be wildly wrong. When will we ever learn? It reminds me of that old saying which I think was from Einstein, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Polling, at least the old-school style, is over. Done. I don’t need to go through a long list of reasons why nobody should take pollsters seriously anymore, but a few data points are instructive.

President Trump granted a pardon to Michael Flynn, his former national-security adviser, today. Flynn had pled guilty to lying to FBI agents about conversations, during the 2016 transition, with the Russian ambassador about sanctions. Flynn’s pardon should bring to an end one gross violation of the Constitution’s separation of powers, even as it gives rise to groundless accusations of another. Although Flynn had pled guilty, the circumstances of the case had raised serious concerns about whether the government had proceeded properly. The FBI, for example, questioned Flynn even though it did not appear he had violated any law. In May, Attorney General William Barr ordered the case dropped.

Minnesota is one of a number of states that are living under what amounts to martial law. Our proto-fascist dictator Tim Walz, in his latest edict, purports to ban traditional Thanksgiving get-togethers: Saturday, Nov. 21 through Friday, Dec. 18, Executive Order 20-99 requires all Minnesotans to: * Limit social gatherings to one household. * Not gather outside of your household. * Postpone all celebrations, events, receptions, and parties, including any social gatherings for weddings and funerals. So it is “illegal” for me to invite any of my four kids to Thanksgiving dinner.

There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
