Friday is the official start of the 80th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, where 250,000 people are expected to gather in the South Dakota town of that name for nine days of defying proven precautions against the spread of COVID-19.
“Nobody is social distancing and none of them are wearing masks,” local psychologist Michael Fellner told The Daily Beast. “None.”
Fellner is originally from Brooklyn in New York City, which was once the nation’s COVID-19 epicenter but has just reported three straight days without a single death from the virus. The transformation is almost certainly the result of the same precautions the bikers in Sturgis are ignoring.

Who wants to be the guy to tell a bunch of bikers to social distance and wear masks? Not me.

New York congratulates itself for having low COVID numbers now like a firefighter who congratulates himself on putting a fire out when the house was completely consumed by the fire.

We need a few more million people doing this daily. If the DB is whining, you know you are doing something right.

Lazy and fake “journalism”. I was struck by how the author cited a psychologist, not a medical profession but more or less a philosophy, who once lived in Brooklyn as his expert on the wisdom of the convention. Well, today I interviewed a stoic who was born in Vermont, where COVID cases are rare, who believes the maskless Harley convention is just peachy. We should all go out and enjoy our lives.

Wasn't the violent wing of the democrat party under the guise of BLM and ANTIFA supposed to show up? Sure hope the pansies didn't forget.

I'll be exercising some of that same defiance of "common sense" this weekend when I go to a family reunion here in Texas. Hey, Abbott Idiot: We're having a social gathering of more than 10 people, and some of us will NOT be wearing masks or social distancing. Take that and stick it where the sun don't shine!

Sounds like fun. Maybe they should do a side trip to Portland?

No one in NYC has died of COVID-19 in three days? The mayor and the governor must be on vacation. Their decisions kill people left and right.

It is okay. It is now not a rally but a protest.

This would be very interesting for the rest of the country if not a single biker out of 250k comes down with COVID-19. If that many people can gather together and not get sick, that fact can be a powerful weapon against the mask-Nazis in the blue states, my sorry state of California included.

I wish the Harley and I could be there, but alas, it's not to be this year. Other commitments, unfortunately. The DB is shocked that some people don't take the scamdemic seriously. They can chalk it off as a bunch of
fly-over country knuckle draggers protesting a bad idea.

Sorry, Michael, but none of the precautions for COVID are “proven,” no matter how many times you say it.

Sturgis, normal population 7000 or so.. Incoming "Bikers" , mostly 65+ age office drones trying to be bad azz, population 250,000. Sturgis business guys and politicians seeing a river of money coming into town. 9 days a year. As. for the other 356 not much going on. Sorry "bikers", you are bringing a disease into this small town that can and will kill their seniors. Grow The F UP and ride your Fiddlehead Harley to Alaska.

Riding a motorcycle is inherently dangerous and thousands of people die every year. Freedom is making your own decisions about your life. Your life, your risks. If you chose not to take any risks you won't live your life at all. No statistics need on that one. It's 100% guaranteed.

Brooklyn, somehow even more obnoxious than residents of Manhattan and that is saying a lot. Some cagers hate motorcycles, too bad, it's legal so deal with it and stay out of the passing lane while you whine.

If you have never ridden a motorcycle, shut up! You know nothing of the pure enjoyment and thrill of life. Probably have never driven a fishing boat at 70mph (might get hit in head with a bug and all that), or ridden a bicycle at 70 mph...just for the fun of it! We have one life to live and I'm not living mine hunkered down in my basement afraid of everything in the world that "might" kill me! I'm going to die, God has the date appointed for me and then I will go be with Jesus! Quit being whiny babies and act like Americans! Good Grief!
