Washington — New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit on Thursday seeking to disband the National Rifle Association (NRA), claiming its top officials diverted millions of dollars from the influential gun group for their personal use and enriched their families and close associates by awarding lucrative contracts. The lawsuit from James, filed in New York state court, alleges the NRA and four of its top executives mismanaged funds and violated state and federal laws, resulting in the loss of more than $64 million for the organization in a span of three years. The senior leaders, James claims, used millions from the NRA's coffers on trips

Standing? Were does the AG have standing to sue over alleged misuse of funds? Lawyer question to be sure. I can understand fraud and money laundering charges but the organizatin itself is another issue. Also, how can she sue to shut down a political advocacy organization? Doesn't the first amendment allow for citizens to organizte (peaceably assemble) and redress grievances? This is a major photo op and it will be interesting to see how it is handled bothi state and federal court.

If true, this alleged abuse is on LaPierre and his ilk. This is not an NRA problem but a personnel problem. Have fun trying to dismantle the organization.

Letita has discovered that the leaders of the NRA have been drinking coffee and dining out, and files suit to shut the organization down. If the leaders are overpaid, or abusing their powers, wouldn't that be something of concern to the members of the organization, rather than the AG of NY?

If individuals connected to the NRA hired management have violated a New York law she should prosecute them criminally. If the NRA, as it is chartered, and the elected Board of Directors, did nothing wrong why is she suing them civilly? The NRA is a nationally chartered organization of longstanding. Looks like another political hit job by a liberal Democrat State Attorney General against a conservative organization that supports the 2nd Amendment and President Trump during the run up to the November election.

Then-Mayor Mike Bloomberg famously described New York City in 2003 as a “luxury product,” and therefore priced accordingly. The price hasn’t changed, except to go up slightly — taxes, rents, everything. But few would argue that the product New York offers remains first-rate. The theaters are closed. The nightlife is severely restricted. The restaurants have been forced to move outside, inches away from the exhaust pipes of passing trucks. Oh, and New York City has experienced one of the worst and deadliest outbreaks of the novel coronavirus in the entire world, followed by mass rioting and looting and an accompanying routine-crime spree

The New York City school district and all other districts across the state can reopen, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday. “Good news. All schools can reopen,” Cuomo said in a conference call with reporters Friday. Cuomo said the schools are eligible to reopen because all regions across the state have low coronavirus infection rates. But Cuomo cautioned that each school district must submit reopening plans that require approval from the state Health Department. He said the Health Department is reviewing the plans and noted that some are “incomplete.” Albany will inform school districts whether their plans pass muster later Friday or Monday.

The U.S. unemployment rate dropped from 11.1 percent to 10.2 percent in July, beating economists’ predictions even as many states have paused or reversed their reopenings in light of coronavirus case spikes. Employers added 1.8 million jobs in July, according to the Labor Department’s Friday jobs report, a significant slowing down from the 4.8 million jobs created in June, which was the highest recorded. While the economy has recovered 42 percent of the 22 million jobs it lost during the pandemic over the past three months, there are still 10.6 million more unemployed Americans today than there were in February.

The National Rifle Association is fighting back against a lawsuit filed Thursday by New York’s attorney general by submitting its own civil suit against state officials. The NRA’s lawsuit was filed federal court of New York and alleges Attorney General Letitia James “made the political prosecution of the NRA a central campaign theme” when she was running for the AG’s office in 2018, and has not treated the association fairly since. “Despite hopes that playing by the rules would procure a just outcome, the NRA has not been treated fairly by James’s office,” the 19-page suit states. “The New York Democratic Party political machine

Someone leaked police body cam footage of George Floyd’s arrest to the Daily Mail. There are two videos, embedded below. Make of them what you will. To me, what is most striking is how crazy Floyd was from the beginning. The officers tried to get him out of the vehicle in which he was parked and into their squad car so they could take him to a police station and book him for passing a counterfeit bill. This proved impossible. Floyd, in a highly emotional state, was yelling, “Don’t shoot me! Don’t shoot me!” when there was no prospect of his being shot.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The party at the Salmon Street Springs fountain, a riverfront landmark in the heart of Portland, was just getting started. Dozens of drummers beat out entrancing rhythms and a crowd of hundreds danced joyfully as the setting sun cast a soft pink glow on distant Mount Hood. Suddenly, 10-year-old Xavier Minor jumped into the center of the circle and started dancing with abandon. The emcee took note.
