Leaders in education, politics and other areas gathered in suburban Evanston Sunday to ask that the Illinois State Board of Education change the history curriculum at schools statewide, and temporarily halt instruction until an alternative is decided upon. At a news conference, State Rep. LaShawn K. Ford said current history teachings lead to a racist society and overlook the contributions of women and minorities. Before the event Sunday, Rep. Ford's office distributed a news release "Rep. Ford Today in Evanston to Call for the Abolishment of History Classes in Illinois Schools,"

I learned American History, European History and World History throughout my 12 years of Catholic education in Illinois schools. In grade school, all subjects, were interrelated. If were were studying The Civil War for instance, our reading in English/ Literature classes might be The Red Badge of Courage, and related poetry. Geography during that time would have been the states and places involved. Music would be songs of that era, including going into depth about the meaning of the lyrics. When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again, comes to mind. We also learned the Negro Spirituals (if I can say that) and why they sang them. Their connection to slavery. Like the Irish in many of their sad folk songs, the slaves saw death as the only path to freedom. I remember doing a school program in 5th grade when my class sang a medley of spirituals. In History class we learned not only about the major events of the war but about the prominent individuals who shaped that era. Lincoln, Douglas, Seward, Booth, as well as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, William Wells Brown, Martin Delany and others. The Quakers, Shakers, merchants and farmers who risked everything they owned assisting Tubman and the Underground Railroad. At some point there would be, movies, film strips, local historian and field trips to the museums and Underground Railroad "stations" in our area. We had separate Civics's classes. We couldn't graduate unless we passed the U.S. and Illinois Constitution tests.
This was 50 years ago now. When did it change? Could it be that all of the government mandated garbage like recycling, smoking and drug seminars and whatever was the "cause" of the moment began to take up too much class time? Mandating the schools to effectively take the place and responsibility of the parents? Parents abdicating their responsibility to the schools and not being diligent, advocating for their children's education. How many attend even one school board meeting? My kids are teachers, they complain that almost half of the parents don't event attend a scheduled parent/teacher conference. How can you really blame when they themselves are victims of a poor education?

They aren't teaching any history except for the month of February when they teach Black History. Altho most of the rioters don't know history anyway. This would include all the Antifa and BLM members who are teachers and don't for a moment think that number is small and insignificant.

The teaching of history does not lead to slavery, it shows that slavery has existed since the beginnings of civilization, and that it was first abolished on a hemispheric scale by abolitionists in England and the USA. They were led by the Society of Friends and other lovers of liberty.

It is not about the lunatics who call for this, it's about the leaders who cave to their demands.

Lol, yea that's it, abolish history. Heck in Chicago they have already banned English, math, reading and writing. About 60% of the students never graduate high school. Might as well take it to the whole state. Then everybody living in Illinois can be on the democratic plantation. Fact is there isn't a democratic run city in the country where education is a priority. That's been on the back burner for the last 60 years. Might as well put history on that back burner to. Complete insanity. And blacks keep voting these communists into office every year. They still don't get it..

This will be a waste of time since students in Illinois are convinced that History begins they day they are born. (Allegory of the Cave~Plato.)
