It seems almost incredible that in a number of states, serious consideration is being given to keeping the public schools closed in the Fall. Given that the coronavirus is rarely dangerous to children–less so, in fact, than the average seasonal flu–it is hard to understand the rationale for continued school closures.
The most commonly offered excuse is that the children may infect teachers. Presumably that is possible, but a U.K. epidemiologist said yesterday that “Scientists are yet to find a single confirmed case of a teacher catching coronavirus from a pupil anywhere in the world.”
Teachers’ unions are the main proponents of continued school closings, apparently because some teachers and administrators

Open the schools. It is time and the kids need it on so many levels. Teachers who are not comfortable opening schools should just stay home. Resign, retire or take a leave of absence, but their fear should not dictate school policy. Parents, likewise, if they do not want their child to attend, keep them home. Let the rest attend and do it as normally as possible. I believe they want to keep schools closed because if they open them and there is not a huge spike in COVID cases, this whole pandemic will be exposed as an overblown and manufactured health crisis driven by a political agenda. Our day care facilities have reopened without problem so why can’t schools? Something I had not thought of was mentioned to me and that is the democrats want to keep schools closed because doing so would eliminate many polling places which would play into their push for mail in voting. Anyone paying attention knows these shutdowns have been capricious and make little sense. For the sake of our children, let’s open schools and let them have some normalcy in their lives. These shutdowns have stolen so much from us. How anyone in their right mind can take these mandates seriously is mind blowing. We cannot go to church, school, sporting events, amusement parks, swimming pools, movie theaters, but thousands can protest shoulder to shoulder for days on end and that is protected by the government. When officials made that call, they lost me. I knew then that public safety was not driving the agenda, politics was. Open the schools.

If the teachers refuse to come to work, hire new ones and stop paying them.
There are thousands of people in many jobs that were considered essential who have worked through this jacked up flu.

I think Teachers, like all others who were furloughed, need to get back to work. My daughter works in a Dental Office (I think they are #3 on the list of most likely to get the virus at work). She recently had pneumonia, but she still went back to work when the Office opened! These teachers need to go back to teaching or they should lose their paychecks. We don't need to pay people to stay HOME! That goes for others who are still working from home when they should be back in the Office. There are lots of folks who have worked all through this pandemic. Maybe they would have liked to stay home, safe and sound, but they didn't have that option available to them. I think those Teachers should quit hiding in their homes and quit worrying about a third grader giving them the virus! Take Temps every morning before teachers enter the building! That seems to be good enough for the rest of us who go about our appointments with doctors, dentists and even to get entry to retail stores!

Teachers and students need to get back to work. If you think America's students are behind the students in other countries, just wait until they get tested after this pandemic. Teachers in Germany are already back. Haven't heard any complaints from them. I guess the Liberal left wants to wait until the new history books and new grammar books are written and distributed. They also need to get the new culture indoctrination in place. We will end up with an entire generation not being able to read or write or do math. Only the people who can afford computers and home WiFi will be able to learn. Let's open the schools now before it is too late.

Thinking back to the teachers who changed my life by giving me confidence when there was little to start with, I don’t recall any too cowardly to chance a largely faux “pandemic” risk. The good teachers I know now, those devoted to helping younger people, are pretty much disgusted with the present direction and requirements of the calling once they get there.

I wager most of the blue states will shutter their schools this fall. It has nothing to do with “Science.”
People gotta learn that if you vote for Democrats, you get Democrat’s!

Everyone knows that the virus is the most contagious and vicious in government offices and schools. That's why they have to remain shut down. The paychecks to the stay at homes must continue, however, because these are the essential employees that are the 1st ones sent home if the weather's bad.

In Texas, here is what is going to sink the myth and legend of Covid in the schools. Was talking to a board member in another district, a solid conservative, and he couldn't believe the discussion about student safety on the classroom and the desire to get sports going again. So the obvious question is, we establish draconian protective measures in the classroom, yet huddle up on the football field and gang tackle the runner, right? If your school does this, the whole farce is over.

Now is the ideal time to re-imagine "public" education. There is incredible opportunity to reform this political melange that is harming the nation, making intellectual zombies of our kids, preparing them for "struggle" not life. Where are the change agents? Where is the initiative? Seems much is merely handwringing over when the kids will be turned back over for more state abuse. Learn those "values", kids!
