The good news is that my last column in this space is not about “cancel culture.” Well, almost. I agree with some of the critics that it’s a little nuts to say I’ve just been “canceled,” sent into oblivion and exile for some alleged sin. I haven’t. I’m just no longer going to be writing for a magazine that has every right to hire and fire anyone it wants when it comes to the content of what it wants to publish.

New York Magazine is just like all the other “city” magazines. Highly political, dependent on a faux celebrity desire to be trendy, flamingly liberal. And superficial.
Andrew was probably their token conservative, and he hasn’t been a conservative at any time in my recollection - and that goes back a while..

Gosh, it's wonderful to read that Andrew accepts how the world runs and doesn't want to kill people while he works on changing it. So ultimately sensible!...even if he votes for Biden. Alas!
Good luck, Andrew, I have enjoyed reading your stuff whenever I ran across it and th.at will probably continue

I used to read his Dish back in the day and found his writing excellent and balanced, However, if he is such a great thinker, why in God's name is he going to vote for Biden? To me, this "thinking man" is FOS. He may be doing it because he hates Trump, but has he really looked at what the Democrats represent and what they would do once in power? I hope he's just saying it to keep the wolves from his door. If not, he isn't worth blowing up with any amount of dynamite.

His clear delineation of what is terrible about today's journalism is very insightful and valuable. I don't agree with his politics, of course, but I wish him well.

Many years ago I would skim his stuff, but it seemed to me to ALWAYS be about homosexual issues or the homosexual take on whatever the topic was. Like a broken record (remember that?).

You see this a lot in establishment homosexuals. It sounds a lot like Jon Haidt. They're going to vote for whatever supports them in the broadest range of activity as a homosexual, and only then, start asking why the cities are burning. They smart enough and educated enough to know better, but their inner mania comes first.

Andrew is correct. Newspapers used to give voice to all sides in their op-ed pages, and reporters and headline writers were trained to use neutral language, i.e. "Biden said," rather than "Biden pointed out," or "Trump said," rather than "Trump complained." I think the best thing about Fox News is that it daily presents opinion from guests on both sides. (I fault Fox, however, for highlighting only conservative hosts for primetime evening programming.) The danger with the NYT, et al., is that its monolithic conformity has created an ethic of "correctness" about all controversial topics throughout the media. This conformity is adopted in the larger society as the only view that can be safely discussed without endangering your livelihood. Governors, mayors and even corporate CEOs have become the modern Gauleiters of permissible thought and language. As events in Germany, Russia and China proved in the last century, when that happens dictatorship is but a short step away.

Would he say the same thing if President Trump hired then fired his carcass? Poster 11, I have a nephew who says the reason he supported obama and hates Trump is because of what obama did for him. What was that, you ask. obama made him feel proud of and comfortable with expressions of his homosexuality. When I told him that's it's not the job of the POTUS to make him feel good about himself, he yelled that Trump hates black people. My nephew's Independent but votes democrat.
