Popular DC deli apologizes for
‘co-opting Black culture’

Original Article

Responding to community feedback, a popular D.C. deli has apologized for naming several of its menu items after Black athletes and entertainers. “As our company’s leaders, we have not done enough to show what we have always known to be true: that Black Lives Matter,” said Andrew Dana and Daniela Moreira, owners of Call Your Mother deli, in a statement on their website. “Although it was never our intention, we now understand that these choices were co-opting Black culture and profiting off it, without truly paying homage.” There were bagel sandwiches on the menu that included the names of famous singer Rihanna and former NBA

Comments:

Some companies can cash in on bLACKness, others can't. The deli owners here are not bLACK, so they are attacked. The public groveling is a good first step, but how about shining the shoes of every bLACK patron who enters? Woke-Fil-A would approve.

You can almost smell the fear. Terrified that they will be torched or vandalized, they try to do a preemptory insurance policy. No realization that it won’t work if they are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The flip-side is that if they didn't name menu items after bLACK people, they'd be slammed as racist and exclusionary, and again pressured to make changes in management etc. It's a shakedown tactic finely honed by the likes of The Reverend Jesse Jackson and The Reverend Al Sharpton, who do well indeed for themselves in their aim to do good. Slavery was a terrible mistake.

This is a classic plot in old Westerns...the honest businessmen are harassed by a gang of outlaws and the entire town cowed into paying tribute or risk a burning out or a bullet in the back. The plot featured a HERO who came to town and stood up, rallying the townsfolk to reclaim their community and self-esteem. Today's townsfolk are generally gutless, just like their fictional counterparts. And the shakedown has been perfected over the years by thieves such as Jackson, Sharpton and many, many other local imitators. The popular media spreads the hysteria, hammers home the "injustice" of systemic -isms that need correction and repentance. It's always easier to go along to get along...

Lemme see if I get this correctly. If you offer a tribute to their "culture", you are appropriating it. If you ignore it, then you are discriminatory and non-inclusive. uh-huh. Just like when you move out of Brooklyn because of the crime and drugs, you are racist because you are driving down home prices; if you move back, you are racist because you are driving up prices. Got it.

It will be funny after anything black cannot be in advertising. Just wait. Soon the blacks will be complaining that they have no market share in advertising. Get rid of ALL of it. Get rid of anything black. Soon they will be wanting it back. Short sighted.
