Margot Robbie will star in a female-led version of “Pirates of the Caribbean” for Disney with “Birds of Prey” writer Christina Hodson on board to write the script. Disney is in early development of the untitled project. The Robbie-Hodson collaboration is being developed separately from another “Pirates of the Caribbean” reboot that was unveiled in October with franchise veteran Ted Elliott and “Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin hired to develop a story. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all five “Pirates” movies, is attached to produce both the Elliot/Mazin and the Robbie/Hodson projects.
The previous “Pirates” movies, all starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow,

How they can so accurately predict production that I won't see amazes me. It's almost as they can read my mind!

Based on the female super-hero movies that flopped, I'd say it's going to be easy to find a theater seat.

Pirates were also slavers. I wonder if that will be brought front and center?
There's a reason women throughout history never did the things Hollywood concocts for them in their, "We're just as good as men" mantra... and that's because females cannot.
There are physiological and psychological differences obvious to all, except the delusionally liberal.

Why can't feminists come up with an original character?
I can't say that I an die hard fan of Sandra Bullock, but she has produced some darn good movies with female leads. I give her a lot of credit for that.

Remember the all female Ghostbusters and what a huge hit it was? Neither do I because it bombed. This is just one more example of Get Woke, Go Broke.

Let me guess. These 'pirates' will free slaves, protect gays, rob rich white men, and destroy everything around them in symbolic support of the downtrodden. Yawn.

Isn't this cultural appropriation? I don't think people who self-identify as female ought to pretend to play roles that in fact are only undertaken by self-identified men. They can't really "feel" the role and it is wrong to take roles away from self-identified men.

Beyond stupid.
First, pirates were not cute, not good guys, not 'rollicking characters'. They were vicious, heartless, brutal murderers and rapists. I was never a fan of these modern pirate movies - they are ridiculous self parodies, and seem to glorify horrible, evil men.
Second, AFAIK, there were never any female pirate leaders. Just another "let's show that women are fully the equal of men" ridiculous propaganda piece out of Hollyweird. So they want to show that woman are just as evil as men? Is that their point?

Someone must need a huge tax loss, because no one can be stupid enough to think it will be a success, especially people who make movies for a living.

We might go to Disneyland one more time for the Star Wars area, but after that, just another reason to boycott anything Disney.
And, I was/am a big fan of the Star Wars franchise.
Still waiting for The Rise of Skywalker to come out on TV.
Too bad the promise of Luke and Leia in A New Hope fizzled out.

And I'm sure this will be every bit the "success" as the all-female remake of "Ghost Busters"!!!

For how many years did a female ( Mary Martin) play a young boy ( Peter Pan) and no one suffered because of appropriation?

I love Margot Robbie's acting, but this movie will more than likely be terrible beyond my powers of description. The movie industry seems to want to destroy itself.

I'm with #19, Suicide Squad has lots of faults but Ms Robbie wasn't one of them. I liked the Emancipation movie better. Part of her charm is the Jersey girl accent. I don't see that working in the Pirates movies, but I have been wrong before. :)
