Orlando, Fla.—First, the country music trio, The Dixie Chicks, dropped the 'Dixie' from their name. Could Winn-Dixie be next? According to TMZ, the southern supermarket chain is considering changing its name. The term Dixie reportedly refers to Southern U.S. states, especially those that belonged to the Confederacy. A Winn-Dixie spokesperson reportedly told TMZ: "At Southeastern Grocers, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive culture and community that promotes belonging, inclusion, and diversity. As such, we stand against racism and support the Black Lives Matter movement across our country." "While our Winn-Dixie banner has proudly served our communities for nearly 100 years,

Yes, cause I remember from HS History class that J.E.B. Stewart, P.G.T. Beauregard and Robert E Lee all used to shop there.

The website of Winn-Dixie and of the parent company are offline. Best case would be regular people giving them an earful, but who knows.

Wow. When I lived in Florida, Winn-Dixie was a really good grocery chain, and we shopped there all the time.
If they do this, when I am in Fla visiting relatives....I'll be sure to never bother them by coming into their stores.

Just change the spelling, Winn Dicksey like Dicksey Chicks sounds good. Pandering to a crowd who would burn down your store just to say you are woke and broke. It was shopping there while it lasted.

I predict that the fair sized locally owned supermarket in my small rural Southern town, here in Dixie, will pick up a lot of business. Plus their groceries are cheaper and their meat is a whole lot better.

So, is the Mason Dixon Line next on the renaming list? Winn-Dixie renaming themselves is beyond stupid.

Frankly, it would be smart for Southeastern Grocers to re-brand all of their stores under one name. Now I haven't heard anyone, ever, complain about the Winn Dixie name. ANd regardless what they rebrand themselves as, I will continue to shop there. Their meat prices cant be beat and my only alternatives are the overpriced Publics and Walmart.
Oddly enough, the headquarters are smack dab in the middle of Jacksonville's poorer black communities. Their building is nowhere near the Jacksonville skyline and the employee a lot of local citizens.
I dont have a problem with re-branding. I have a problem with forced re-branding by an ignorant mob.

Couldn't tell you the last time I went into Winn Dixie. Never liked their stores.
Why not have a national state store where all the prices are the same and all the food is the same and un-American in our descent to socialism?

Anything with a name not reflecting a bLACK person or a homosexual goes under the microscope. Erasing local names and reference points is a running theme in any number of old novels warning about a future dystopia when a totalitarian government assumes control, and here we are. Get used to the changes, folks; this is just the beginning. ("First they came for Dixie, but I did not care because I am from up north." Etc.) Anything named for Washington or Jefferson or Columbus or anyone who had anything to do with this country as we know it will be renamed to get us ready for our new cultural heroes, soon to be announced.
