What good do the masks do, really?

Original Article

We are seeing jurisdictions everywhere imposing mask bans at a rate that approaches the number of bars being threatened with liquor license revocation for failing to enforce social distancing. (snip) Even accepting the uncertain premise that masks are useful, "incorrect use and disposal may actually increase the risk of pathogen transmission, rather than reduce it, especially when masks are used by non-professionals such as the lay public." Given that most "masks" are simply kept handy for use when required, set aside, and then re-used, most mask-wearing by the public is likely to increase virus exposure, not reduce it.

If these masks actually do what they claim for the wearer, they should be sanitized or thrown away at the end of every day. I've been considering having one tattooed on my face.

Re-breathing your own CO2 inside a mask reduces the blood's O2 content, which adversely affects a person's physiology. The N95 is better, but requires some amount of force to expel, and over time becomes annoying. Surgical Masks are not supposed to be worn 8 or more hours a day, and most Surgeons would agree.

OP, I chuckled at the "&" in your list of authors for this article. The "MD" doesn't represent a second author's initials, it represents the fact he's a doctor (of medicine). Carry on. Great article. Confirms why I refuse to wear a mask outdoors and will only wear one indoors if it's required for entry (like at a grocery store). So many Karens, so little intelligence.

I wear a food industry style beard cover. It is meant to stop hair, nothing else. Nobody cares. A good side effect is the facial recognition cameras everywhere are having a harder time tracking everyone. I was waiting for a socially acceptable way to walk around with my face obscured.

Texas Democrat run cities have instituted mandatory masks to enter stores. This has caused fights at store entrances and within the stores, as some wear them, and some people don't like being told what to do. Same thing from the social distancing, as arguments breaking out everywhere. It's not a pleasant shopping experience, and many people will stay home, and not shop. The stores have spent billions to get customers to come into their stores. Now many people would rather spare themselves the misery.

Most people in my part of town have a mask around their neck, their wrist or in a pocket. When entering a business or office building the mask goes on and is removed the moment they exit. It's all part of a ridiculous game that won't end until after the election.

I figured this out early on, have not worn one at all except when visiting a friend who is on chemotherapy. We sat outside, and I faced sideways to him when we were eating, about 6 ft away, to minimize my breath reaching him. When not eating, I wore a real hospital mask that he provided. Otherwise - no mask for me. I tried to make an appointment for a hair cut, badly needed, but they wanted me to wear a mask, so I cancelled. I'm not going to do stupid, pointless things just because they are 'popular'. They are still pointless, and they make the statement "I'm a dummy who thinks this mask helps".

Since its founding in the 1820’s, the Democrat party has been the most pernicious and most schizophrenic entity in American politics. Today, the two dominant factions within the party are the ultra-wealthy beneficiaries of capitalism plus college educated sanctimonious elites (collectively the vast bulk of the ruling class) on the one hand, and Marxist indoctrinated self-described democratic socialists on the other. (snip) the establishment within the party and their financial and media benefactors believe they will be able to maintain control of the party by buying off their incongruent bedfellows with symbolism and minor compromises.

Joe Biden is hiding in his basement, but maybe that's because the rabid-left looters, rioters, and protesters are carrying out his presidential campaign just fine for him. What else can be concluded but that, given that President Obama has cynically admitted that the civil unrest covering the U.S. is "tailor-made" for electing Joe Biden? Here's a report from National Review: Former President Barack Obama told aides this month that the nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd are "a tailor-made moment" to help his former vice president Joe Biden defeat Donald Trump in November.

On Black Lives Matter's website, the organization's radical founders trace the creation of their movement "to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin's murderer, George Zimmerman." Had those founders paid any attention to the trial, they would have known that Zimmerman should never have been charged with murder, let alone tried. The fact that he was arrested can be attributed to a stunningly blatant fraud orchestrated by the attorney who has been prominently milking the racial divide he helped create, Benjamin Crump. As it happens, the one person capable of exposing this fraud is George Zimmerman.

Cultural tyranny reigns in America, the last step before full-fledged political tyranny. (snip) When people can’t put a bumper sticker for their preferred candidate on their car, they have suffered a loss of liberty. No Republicans who have paid even a little bit of attention expect the prevailing powers in Democrat areas to safeguard their property, or even their lives and liberty. We usually associate courage (or its absence) with leadership by elected officials: There are times when it is hard to stand up for your principles, to stand against your own party, or both.
