In 2008, a British environmental activist attempted to perform a citizen’s arrest on John Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, during a speech in London. He failed. Top officials with George W. Bush’s Administration, Bolton in particular, were widely considered war criminals for their role in launching a deadly war in Iraq, torturing prisoners, and hiding evidence of wrongdoing.
The crux of this international animus was Bush’s false claim that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and therefore posed an immediate and mortal threat to global security. As an advisor to Secretary of State Colin Powell during Bush’s first term, Bolton enthusiastically pushed the WMD pretext for

I am appalled at Bolton's backstabbing ways, and it is becoming clear that he saw threats that were not there. But, to take the revisionist view that Saddam had absolutely no WMDs, is going too far in the other direction, too. How about we try for the truth.
The claims were not entirely false, IMO, but likely were exaggerated. And never forget that Colin Powell was one of the lead men on this WMD push, along with Bolton.
It is highly likely that Saddam had significant quantities of chemical weapons. There were a substantial number (multiple tens) of very large cargo aircraft flights between Baghdad and Syria in the last weeks before the invasion, carrying heavy cargo items which went into secret warehouses in Syria. There are good reasons to believe that this was the transfer of chemical weapons, Sarin nerve agent, chlorine and mustard gas among them, to Syria.
Syria has used chemical weapons on their civilians and others a number of times after the fall of Saddam - which is proof that Syria does have chem weapons - most probably Sadam's stocks, transferred to them.
Large supplies of gas masks, chemical protection suits, chemical agent wash down and neutralizing chemicals, chemical agent testing kits, and such military support equipment needed for a chemical weapon equipped army were found in Saddams's warehouses and on the battlefield. Multiple of Saddam's generals believed that they had chemical weapons available to them if they needed them, and have said so when interrogated after the war. There is some speculation that in the military detritus burned in the large trash dumps in the desert were some small number of unidentified Sarin nerve agent artillery shells, and that this is the source of some possible injury to US service personnel who were subjected to the smoke from these large trash fires. This is unproven, but seems potentially credible, IMO. There were complaints of various illnesses for which no cause could be identified.
Bottom line, there is substantial evidence that Saddam did actually have chemical weapons in some large quantities, but transferred them to Syria at the last minute.
There were substantial quantities (hundreds of drums) of minimally refined uranium oxide (yellowcake) found, which shows money spent and an intent to build nuclear weapons but is still very far away from any actual fissionable materials, let alone a deliverable weapon. On the path to nuclear weapons, yes, but still very far away from them.
There never was an substantial proof of any bioweapons capability in Iraq. That sort of WMD appears to be an entire fantasy.

FTA: “'He was a washed-up guy, I gave him a chance, he couldn’t get Senate confirmed so I gave him a non-Senate confirmed position so I could just put him there and see how he worked,' the president told Sean Hannity on Fox News this week."
The President then is responsible for Bolton hanging around him. The guy was a bad hire, but PDT has had a number of them...starting with Rex and Mad Dog. One hopes he has figured this out for his second term. Whoever suggested and vetted these guys ought to be fired.

#2...President Trump has made what turned out to be wrong choices in a few positions. I think his picking the ceo of Exxonmobil and a 4 star Marine general for chief of staff and secretary of defense, he was relying on their patriotism. Instead they ended up being open border, globalist interventionist that served another master.

Supporting #1. Ultimately, the NYT chronicled the finding of Iraqi chemical weapons and delivery systems if only to give kudos to the CIA. IOW, Saddam had them, had the delivery systems, and did not account for them or destroy them according UN mandates. The hypocrisy of the left and the media is unlimited. They slam Bush for no WMD, then to give the CIA a pat on the back years later, they finally publish the truth.
As far as the yellowcake goes, Saddam had 500 tons of it, though it's not a WMD per se. There was no immediate use for it as the Italian built enrichment facility was knocked out and the French reactor was taken out by Israelis in 1981, and the Russian built reactor was destroyed by the US in Desert Storm. However, it was useful as a trading commodity for hard cash. Yellowcake was not a controlled substance back then, but it had to be declared and it was not. Joe Wilson, the husband of fake spy Valerie Plame, was deep into the uranium trade business as ambassador to Gabon. Bush '43s statement that Saddam had acquired uranium from Africa, which was a British Intelligence assessment, has never been disproved. IMO, Joe was sent on his junket to cover up the network and beneficiaries of illicit uranium and minerals trade.
And finally, soldiers were not only exposed to chemical agents from the fires, but suffered chemical injuries from IEDs using 155mm howitzer shells thought by terrorists to be HE, but were in fact chemical weapons. So, it turns out that Powell was correct, then denied his speech before the UN once he stuck his finger in the air. Despicable creature.

I doubt there will be a rebirth for Bolton after this.
The Left hates him. They are happy to make use of the idiot for a while but once Trump wins the election they will scrape him off their shoes like the excrement he is. Republicans mostly thought he was a nut. Now he has poisoned himself to any in the party who support Trump, which is almost everyone.
Further, Bolton did not play by the rules. The judge that OKed the book distribution said so but recognized the DAMAGE was already done and could not be reversed. If the government decides to take legal action against him, as is likely, he will not profit from his book and will likely face criminal conviction. He is now toxic to anyone in any administration. I doubt if even Leftists will want much to do with him in a month or so. If Trump is smart he will mostly ignore him until after Trump is reelected. Then, BOOM! SQUASH! If you think Flynn was eviserated by the government how much more so will Bolton be, who actually did something wrong. No one will back off from the charges. No one will care if Bolton is impoverished. Some will take glee in it.
No, I suspect Bolton will be waking up in Hades before too long.

#4, you can see the results of depending on patriotism, "the last refuge of the scoundrel." You hire people in these positions for expertise and loyalty in policy. Any question about either, you don't hire them in any capacity. Their only "recommendations" came from the great thinkers at Fox News who made them guest all-star contributors ratified by the red-meat slingers who though PDT was a "friend" of the military and its huge supporting network promoting perpetual war and "readiness".

One thing about the Democrats, they do know how to deal with their turncoats, actual and potential. That's why they have so few of them.
