Require You to Submit to Tyranny

There’s a basic rule that far too many conservatives ignore: if some alleged conservative principle makes you less free, then it’s not a good conservative principle and you should toss it in the trash. After all, principles are merely shorthand for the best practices of a just society. When some alleged principle helps leftists enserf-ify you, then it’s a pretty Schiffy principle, isn’t it?
Weaponizing principles is one of the left’s favorite tactics, and it’s right out of Alinsky 101. Rule for Radical No. 4 is "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules." And it works really well, right up until the moment that you stop

Tyranny is making citizens wear useless face masks in public. Ask Roy Cooper. Takes effect Friday for we North Carolinians. 3 weeks, but will probably stretch depending on his whim. My wife is hopping mad. Same way I felt when my company jumped on the bandwagon 2 weeks ago and mandated masks.

I don't wear one, but I only go to town on Wednesdays for the post office and pick up Subway sandwiches. (TK does the grocery shopping on another day.) I also stopped by the nursery yesterday. Everyone else was wearing masks but no one questioned me. I won't wear them. If someone asks, them them you have a medical condition that precludes wearing a mask and are exempt. No one can question you further - good old HIPPA, and the Disabilities Act means they can't deny you services.
Be a good example to your neighbors. Go maskless! Smile! Be happy!

"Conservative" Greg Abbott wants you to:
- Wear a mask
- Stay home (again)
- Allows state agencies issue safe passage papers to their employees
- Lets county judges run amok
On top of all this our state legislators remain silent; silence is consent.
But I don't see much acquiescence to this nonsense. The employment angle is the key. If they're smart, lawyers should start gearing up for the lawsuits.

Refuse to wear them and refuse to enter any business which requires them. You’d think that after 3 months of being shut down, businesses would not be turning away customers.
If someone goes after you for not wearing one, point out that they don’t protect you at all and that they are, in fact, dangerous to your health. Not only are you inhaling your own carbon dioxide, but the inside of your mask is chock full of bacteria from your mouth (over 600 different kinds - dirtier than a dog’s mouth) and the moist air you exhale into the mask makes it a perfect breeding ground for those bacteria. Which you then inhale. If that fails, you can always repeat the leftist pro-abortion mantra - my body, my choice.

fta:
Option 1: We all live freely and say what we wish and no one gets canceled.
Option 2: Conservatives get canceled, but liberals get canceled too.
Option 3: Conservatives get canceled, but liberals never get canceled.
My preference is Option 1, everyone says whatever they want and no one gets canceled. This seems like the best arrangement, and until recently it seemed to be the one that we had adopted as a society. If we can’t have Option 1, then we will take Option 2, mutually assured destruction. But Option 3, liberals do whatever they want and we get gagged, is a non-starter. They do not get to win.

I'm with Kurt. Prefer 1 but will take 2 if necessary... and to hell with 3 and all who grovel and beg not to be beaten anymore while espousing their weakness as virtuous. They don't get to win!!

I didn't know there were any conservative principles other than tax cuts and warmongering.

An easy way to examine the Left's attacks is to push an example to the extreme to see if it holds up. Liberals would tell us that if we don't believe killing is OK, we should never kill someone. Therefore, if someone breaks into our house we should not kill them to protect ourselves. If they then kill us, that is the cost of standing up for our principles. This is, of course, insane. We have a right to defend ourselves against people trying to harm us.
Further, principles are NOT handcuffs. They are guideposts. You should stay in your lane on a road. But if a boulder has fallen down a hillside into your lane, you don't ram into the boulder to keep in your lane. You exit your lane to avoid it and return to your lane as soon as practical. The Left delights in placing boulders in the road to civilization and then shrieking, "You didn't stay in your lane.".
Also, while we believe that all people have freedom of expression, there is no principle that says we have to respect the beliefs they express. We can speak back, ridicule them, ignore them, and laugh in their faces. Both sides make their case. Then we go to the ballot box and vote. The winner gets to make the rules, within the framework of the Constitution and existing law.
The problem is, the Left doesn't believe in reason. They are, by most measures, thugs. Nasty Pelousy, Chuckie Scummer, Schiffty, and Nadless are thugs. Because they don't control the Senate or Presidency they can't get things done. Their response is to break the furniture and defecate on the floor. Since they cannot function within the system, their only hope is to tear it all down.
The Left's only principle is power and control by any and all means.
I would suggest that Conservatives should view it that if you chose to live outside the principles of the system, as the Left does, you are NOT entitled to its protections. That applies to dem cities and states as well. If they choose to live outside federal laws, like immigration law, the benefits of the federal government are forfeit, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.

FTA: "Those of us who see what’s happening and refuse to go full lemming – never go full lemming – are not abandoning conservative principles. We’re just not trying to hold onto the alleged principles that have abandoned us."
While Schlichter points fingers at the left as the villains, those "conservatives" who shift their so-called principles are the real villains. Those who see, hear and speak no evil...on their "side", of course. Those Dubyans, McCainiacs, and Romney-bots of yore spring to mind.

As regards this pandemic thing - Tyranny is masks. Tyranny is being placed under arrest for not wearing one. Tyranny is approval of those who destroy public property. Those to succumb to masks which are totally useless, anyway, have submitted to tyranny. The only times I wear mine now is at the doctor's office because they won't let me in unless I am wearing one.
Went to Glenwood Hot Springs Resort yesterday. Being the more liberal town they are, you have to wear a mask before being allowed into the front lobby. I noticed some hispanics ahead of us in line were given a pass and didn't have to wear theirs. What part of stupid was it to require us to wear masks until when we actually jump into the pools. Nevertheless, taking a nice dip in the pools was welcome and relaxful. Had our 15 and a half year old grandson with us who has his learners permit and drove us most of the way back home. Other than a few OMG moments when passing a few semis on I70, he did great. And to his credit, he think this pandemic things is a total joke.

"echo journalism" and "this age of rage" are fabulous constructs in this well-reasoned commentary.
The notion that the judicial branch is qualified to substitute itself for the executive branch while making decisions based on tabloid news reports in preference to legal principles and precedents is mind-blowing.
Fortunately cooler heads have prevailed, at least for now. Of course, John Roberts and his Kindergarten Kourt may flip things back the other way. Stay tuned.

Appointment with a new specialist. As I'm filling out papers, assistant 'suggests' I wear a mask. I truly didn't have one but I was torqued. I apologized for wasting her time and got up to leave. She brought me a mask from somewhere.
