John Bolton’s aspirations to publish 500 pages of what reportedly is a nonstop jeremiad against that fellow in the Oval Office faces a steep legal hurdle: the 1980 Supreme Court decision in Snepp v. United States. Frank Snepp was a CIA agent who spent 1968 in Vietnam, the year in which American weekly casualties peaked. In 1977 Snepp published a memoir of what must have been a most unhappy tour, even by the standards of wartime. Titled A Decent Interval, it ran some 600 pages. Its thesis, in a nutshell, was that America made an indecent exit from Vietnam, abandoning its allies, knowing that the North Vietnamese

The article left me confused. Hadn’t leaks already occurred? If so isn’t he up the creek without a paddle?

Bolton was after power at a level he was not capable of wielding. Used to like him. But now I realize it was mainly because the Left hated him. Didn't take PDT long to take his measure.

This book action is a testament to Bolton's ego and to be so blinded by it to either not recognize or not care about the jeopardy in which he has placed himself. Plus, there is not going to be an audience for his book. Conservatives will shun it. Some liberals will get it because it disses Trump but they hate Bolton so not much interest there either. Bolton is getting his 15 minutes of fame in the propaganda, TDS media but he has poisoned himself for any political purposes. He was always considered a loose cannon and now he is sinking with the cannon tied to his neck.
Bolton should have learned a lesson from Flynn. Political court battles can be nasty and Flynn didn't do anything wrong. Bolton did. When Trump is reelected, Bolton can look forward to at least 4 years of hell. How stupid is this guy?

Classified material can take two forms.
1. Directly classified by the person/agency that owns the information.
2. Accumulated classification, this is where many items that are normally unclassified, if taken in total ARE considered classified.
An example of the latter: Troop deployments are common knowledge, add in where to and why, now it's classified.
The job that Bolton had covered a myriad if issues, it no doubt he had access to lots of pieces of information, taken in total ARE classified. I'm sure his arrogance will get the better of him and he will be in serious trouble for releasing classified info, no matter how it is classified.

Bolton has seen democrats get away with worse, so he figured he would too. Problem is, he is not a democrat in good standing, nor is he in good standing with Republicans. The democrats and anti-Trumpers may have been happy to have a nasty, tell-all book to use against President Trump, but that won't help Bolton.

Bolton will never face criminal charges; never do jail time. The government will move to seize any profits/royalties, at worst. The damage, i.e. disclosure of any classified and embarrassing unclassified stuff, is done, a modern problem presented by the instantaneous nature of modern publishing on the net. My guess is there is near zero classified info, and lots of embarrassing...which is always the bigger problem.

I've heard some of the 'bombshells' from Bolton's book and they sound more like ladyfingers. Credible people are saying that the charges are made out of whole cloth. I think you can criticize DJT for hiring a neocon opposed to what DJT promised to do, but the charges reported from Bolton's book should hold the public's attention for about a minute and a half. When 'chaotic', 'incompetent' etc. etc. are all translated they often mean 'he didn't take my advice and do what I wanted him to do.'

The Judge thought that far too many books were already “out there’ to stop its publication, but the admonition he gave Bolton had to have scaed the bejeepers out of him. The judge made a case for his being prosecuted in the future for publishing the book without proper review. Bolton could have to give up his $2million advance and face prosecution for disclosing classified information. How’s he sleeping now…?

BOLTON, you dummy, You can't write this garbage. There are laws against profiting from it--AND YOU'RE NOT A DEMOCRAT! (and therefore you are not exempt)

Yet once again the Globalists wound President Trump. Antifa, BLM, academia, LGBTQ, Daca, SDNY AG, it all adds up to elect Badfinger Biden. I think they must all belong to an Illuminati Secret Society while President Trump is an American Bull.

As others have said, Bolton ain't no Democrat so he's fair game. AND, he should have the book thrown at him. Because illegal classified information can be distributed so widely and quickly, essentially nullifying for practical purposes any agreement Bolton would have signed, he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to make an example out of him so that others contemplating breaking this law, hopefully will think twice. It's the same reason that the fullest extent of the law must be exercised against the Comey cabal for committing a coup on the Trump administration and the United States.
But I'm not holding my breath for any of this to happen.

I need to reply to poster #9. You can not have a classification any higher than the highest classification of any of the multiple items in the gathering of information. If there is nothing in all of the individual elements that are classified, then the entire piece is unclassified.
As a writer on very sensitive subjects such as Stealth and let's say, Area 51. And as a writer covering both subjects, I am familiar with dealing with classified and unclassified materials, plus I was the official Wing Historian, with the needed Top Secret clearance for 26 of my 21 years in the Air National Guard, and the five years I was on active duty.
You may not classify a document if all the items were assembled from unclassified sources, reports and interviews. The classification elements only go one way, down, not up.
