Protesters toppled a statue of Thomas Jefferson in front of a high school Sunday night during a Black Lives Matter demonstration in Portland, Oregon. Demonstrators gathered Sunday night outside Jefferson High School in Northeast Portland to protest the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man whose police-custody death in Minneapolis sparked a wave of national unrest. According to The Oregonian, more than 1,000 protesters marched to Alberta Park and a smaller group stayed behind and toppled the statue onto the ground. The words “slave owner” and “George Floyd” were also written on the white marble base where the statue of the Founding Father

Comments:

Another racist statue of a slaveowner bites the dust as "they" take the city back. Oh, how they laughed when they pulled down those old traitors Jeff Davis and Bobby Lee, who somehow were connected to slavery! Are we still amused now that the precedent has been set?

This really is getting absurd. These are nothing more than spoiled brats taht have never been told no. they do not have the right or the authority to destroy our, yes our, history. TJ's statue isn't a toy for them to destroy while having a 2 year old tantrum. If we want it removed, there is a process. But self appointed selfish BLM members are not the rulers of this country. At some point, We the People have to take this country back from these self appointed dictators. It is time for the tyrants that rule by force to be reigned in.

Wondering when "they" will demand that Washington DC be renamed and the "White House" get a new coat of paint. These people are ignorant and it shows. These men cannot be judged by today's standards. They are a product of their time. And while we are at it let's not forget that slavery has been a worldwide issue since man stood up. Every civilization has kept slaves. And that includes Amerian Indians and blacks. Blacks in Africa DID participate in the slave trade. Some Africans did sell other Africans to the Europeans. So I suggest "the mob" turn on themselves since their ancestors we practitioners too.

#8 I don't think republicans are brave enough to stop this takeover. I have for many years believed that republicans could have the White House, both houses of congress made up of all republicans, all the Judges of the courts, all governors and state legislatures and all of local government and still would find a way to lose.

New York—As journalists grapple with massive protests and sweeping changes in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, U.S. newsrooms are debating an important style change: whether to capitalize the “b” in black when describing people. The Los Angeles Times, USA Today and NBC News last week changed their practices to do that, and the National Association of Black Journalists urged other news organizations to follow. Many are studying the idea, including The New York Times and The Associated Press. The AP Stylebook of usage policies is highly influential in the industry with many news organizations, government and public relations agencies using it as a guide.
