A statue of Christopher Columbus was beheaded by protesters on Thursday as the city tried to remove the monument from a park in Camden, New Jersey. The city of Camden said the statue in Farnham Park has “long pained residents of the community” and attempted to remove the structure on Thursday evening in advance of a planned protest at the site, according to Philadelphia’s CBS3.But as city workers tried to remove the monument, demonstrators lopped off its head and hoisted it into the air before placing it on the statue’s base.“Christopher Columbus to us, as Black Americans, represents a privatizer, a colonizer,

We should rebuild every Columbus statue out of stainless steel and 3x larger, anchored in 10 feet of concrete.

I know facts mean nothing to these morons, but how did Columbus have anything to do with African slavery? The first slaves didn't get here until 1607 or thereabouts, well after 1492. And actually Columbus didn't even---oh never mind.

To be replaced soon by a statue of Michelle Obama handing out school lunches to black children.

What am I missing here?
I was taught that Columbus was seeking a trade route to the East or to China. He was an explorer. He was not a conquistador.

I hope they do erect statutes of obama, michelle, and the rest of the lot. Can't wait to tear them all down. With reasons. This ignorance on the part of these peace loving, light bringing imbeciles is embarrassing.

Statues of Martin Luther King are in every major American city. Try tearing just one of them down and see what happens.
I remember when one went up in San Bernardino. Shortly after, someone came in the night and doused its head with red paint. Boy, did the press light up about that one!

The only time I am missing the Sicilian Mafia is with these statues. The old mob guys would have a few soldiers simply drive by and lay waste to said protesters. Then they would have found the instigators and had a little "discussion". Rinse, repeat. They'd stop.

...torn down by the self-deluding, hate-filled, fools that sanctimoniously label themselves as "open -minded" and "accepting of others" ( unless, of course, you are NOT like them)

They can destroy statues and monuments, but they can't change history. They can lie about it and pretend, but they are just immature children. Destruction is just an emotional response to weakness, but it doesn't make them stronger.

Christopher Columbus is painful to residents because he was white, and it seems the residents hate white people because deep down they resent being BLACK. Ronsha Dickerson derides Columbus as a rapist, and in the next breath demands a statue of MLK Jr, a rapist and a philanderer, among other things. She also wants statues of BLACK separatists Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, and Elijah Muhammad, who, like Abraham Lincoln, thought that white people and BLACK people should live separately because they were too different to coexist. Perhaps they had a point.

"A race that is solely dependent upon another for economic existence sooner or later dies. As we have in the past been living upon the mercies shown by others, and by the chances obtainable, and have suffered there from, so we will in the future suffer if an effort is not made now to adjust our own affairs." –Marcus Garvey
"I regard the Klan, the Anglo-Saxon clubs and White American societies, as far as the Negro is concerned, as better friends of the race than all other groups of hypocritical whites put together." –Marcus Garvey

Can't remember- What was it that MLK actually DID for American Negroes? Maybe it was teaching them how to cheat on their spouses? Or hanging around with famous white politicians? Kinda like Jesse Jackson's "contributions".... Malcom X? what the ……?

#12 MLK did make a speech about judging people by content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

#4 why was Columbus seeking a new trade route? Because travelers on the Silk Road / Spice Road were being raided by MUSLIM caravan thieves. So many missed that part.

A shame to see. Columbus was a heroic figure. Stone age savages, at least 5,000 years behind in development compared to Europe were just in a hopeless position when Europeans arrived. Sorry, it couldn't work out any other way. Some blended in to European civilization and it has worked out. The ones who insisted on living "the old ways" and on reservations, were digging a hole they couldn't and it even seems, didn't want to get out of. Some sympathy, but I don't side with them trying to erase history. What was done, was done, and long before I came into this world.

Thing is, CC had nothing to do with the situation that Blacks found themselves in when they were snatched from Africa and brought here. That would be the Arabs and their own fellow Africans. Now the American Indians could have a legit beef with CC, for it was they who were here when Chris found the continent.

“Christopher Columbus to us, as Black Americans, represents a privatizer, a colonizer, a rapist and many other things,” Ronsha Dickerson told the outlet.
So, Ronsha is a product of inner city public education....and is totally ignorant.
Christopher Columbus had ZERO to do with slavery or oppression of blacks, but Ronsha is reinforcing the stereotype of the low IQ and thuggish behavior of her race

This was done in front of the St. Paul Capitol the other day, also. The thing is -- Gov. Walz knew it ahead of time and did nothing. Nor, the St Paul (Dem) mayor. The State Patrol was only sent in to pick up the pieces. Walz's Lt. Gov is an American Indian. She said that she will not miss that statue and it made her uncomfortable to look out her window at it. How ironic! If she's so against the history of this country, why doesn't she resign her post in the government system that conquered this territory?
